Cass Donovan is desperate to keep her business, Mystical Musings, afloat but winter time is not the best time for tourists on Bay Island. So, she comes up with a plan to create more interest in her shop, but it ends up being a weekend of real life murder. Unfortunately, she finds herself in the middle of it all.

The author gives us a wonderful cast of characters starting with Cass and her two friends Bee and Stephanie. Their close-knit group makes the whole storyline come to life. I can’t imagine one without the other two. They are a great sleuthing team. The rest of the characters, especially Stephanie's husband Tank are strong ones. Cass' love interest isn't in the book much so I don't really get a real feeling about him one way or the other.

I thought I had this story figured out rather early in the book, but I learned how wrong I was. I had part of it correct, but I didn’t see the full explanation coming at all. It made for a nice twist to the plot. I enjoyed every minute of trying to figure this out – right along with Cass and her crew.

I love books set in my area and this is one of those books. That’s what initially grabbed my attention in reading this series. However, it's the author who keeps my attention going with her intriguing storylines and interesting characters. It’s fast-paced, she never misses a beat. There’s mystery mixed with just a small hint of romance and paranormal activity. It’s the perfect blend for cozy mystery fans. I’m hoping to read more in this captivating series.

I don’t know if it was my frame of mind at the time but I felt like this story was difficult to follow. Characters were just thrown in with little explanation and it was as if I’d walked in halfway through a conversation.

Another awesome read in this fun series! I love the whole premise of a former psychiatrist simply using her training and people skills to fill the need that some people seemed to have for a psychic. I had a great time visiting the characters and Bay Island again although I don't think I'd really want to be there in the winter in a spooky old house!

Cass was all set to do a psychic weekend in an old estate that was being restored into a bed and breakfast. There of course were ghost stories surrounding it and Bee was very skeptical about going in. He was so hilarious in some places but boy was he a loyal and steady friend who ended up doing something very brave at the end. I just love his character! The weekend was all set to start when one of the new owners of the B&B was found dead in the cupola, just like the ghost stories all had said. Some claimed there was a curse on the house but Cass didn't believe in curses, only in people who were greedy. She was determined to get to the bottom of this especially after another body turned up. Hopefully the killer wouldn't think she was really psychic and knew their identity!

I love how the characters have grown a little since the last book. Cass herself is more sure of herself than ever before, a little braver too especially when her ex-husband and ex-friend showed up...together and talking about getting engaged. Bee is such a big lovable teddy bear and always comes through for his friends. Steph was a great friend as well and her police officer husband Tank seemed to soften a little bit, especially in how he treated Bee since they'd had somewhat of a truce in the last book. Beast the huge furry dog was, well, Beast! He continued to chew and eat anything put in front of him including an item belonging to a certain ex-husband's fiancee, a super funny scene. Will Beast ever get to obedience school and become a nice, civilized dog? I guess I'll find out more in the next book! Which I will be reading very soon!

Friday night I finished Occult and Battery the second in the Bay Island Psychic Mystery Series by Lena Gregory. I loved it. As I was sent this book to review I think you should know that while I liked the first book, Death and First Sight, I did not love it like I did this one. This second book in the series is very different from the first. It reads like a first in series best seller, paranormal mystery. I am so glad I requested to review this as it is way more energy and excitement then the first. You really see the valuable relationship and bond between the main character Cass and her two best friends Bee and Stephanie. You get a real sense of genuine love of Cass's puppy Beast, the highs and lows of puppy life is truly highlighted in this one. This story has a much more cozy feel then the last one and really has me looking forward to book three!

This is the second book in the series and I found that I enjoyed it more than the first (which I liked). I found Cass to be a likable character. Cass is the proprietor of Mystical Musing, a store she opened when she gave up her psychiatric practice following the death of a patient. She is joined by her two wonderful friends, Stephanie and Brian (Bee). They are also joined by Tank, Stephanie's husband who is a police officer with a lot of patience, which he needs with this trio. Each of them has their own great personality and the three of them complement each other. Their friendship is on of the aspects of this story that really stand out for me. Cass agrees to do a group reading at a mansion on the island that is supposedly haunted, and that is where things go wrong. After some unexplained things happened at the reading, and then discovering the dead body of one of the mansion's co-owners, Cass and her friends decide to solve the crime.

I thought the mystery was solid and woven throughout the story nicely. There are a good number of suspects to choose from and some nice paranormal elements thrown into the mix as well. I have to say that I couldn't quite pin down who I thought was responsible for the crimes in the story and thought the conclusion wrapped up the mystery nicely. The story had a nice pace and it felt like there was always something happening to keep me turning pages.

I'm looking forward to reading book #3 which is out now.

This second book in the series is a great improvement over its predecessor. Cass and her friends make a good sleuthing team. I was surprised by the murderer's identity, and there were enough red herrings to keep me reading.

This is the second novel in the A Bay Island Psychic Mystery. I had waited for this book a while.

We have Cass Donovan, proprietor of Mystical Musings, her best friends, Stephanie Lawrence, and Bee Maxwell. The winter has come to Bay Island and foot traffic to Cass' shop is at a standstill. Not to mention the blizzard warnings. So, Cass has come up with an idea to stage a 'psychic weekend' at an old mansion known to be haunted.

Cass, a former psychiatrist, opened the psychic readings shop not believing she is psychic but wanting to give gentle readings that held no 'responsibilities' for herself. This happened upon Cass losing a patient to suicide. Cass wants to share happiness.

However, as the books progress, the readers realize before Cass herself, that Cass does have a special intuit and it isn't just about having honed observational skills.

Bee adds humor along with Beast, a puppy but giant sized Leonberger who needs behavioral training.

Murders have occurred at the Old Madison Estate, and murders will occur during the weekend. The Cupola is a place to avoid. The race to find the killer/killers is on and Cass' intuition will be needed.

I really enjoyed the book. I sort of forgot the characters because of the time between publication of the volume, however, it quickly returned and I sat back and enjoyed the read. Now, I hope the next one comes sooner.

“Oh, what a tangled web we weave...When first we practice to deceive.” ~ Walter Scott

After her world implodes with the death of a patient and finding her husband and best friend in a compromising position, Psychiatrist Cass Donovan leaves everything in Manhattan behind and returns to her childhood hometown of Bay Island, New York. Not wanting to be responsible for anyone, Cass becomes a psychic and opens her shop, Mystical Musings.

Since it’s winter time, there aren’t a lot of tourists coming to the island. Cass has this brilliant idea to rent the supposedly haunted Madison estate from the firm of Wellington, Wellington and Wellington and host a group reading. Once Priscilla Wellington hears what Cass wants to do, she suggests that Cass turn the one night reading into a weekend event. Her plan is to have the weekend event coincide with the soft opening of the B&B, which the firm will turn the estate into. Cass is excited and thrilled until she learns that her ex-husband Donald and her ex-best friend Sylvia are attending the event weekend.

Cass is determined not to allow the exes to bring her down. She focuses her attention on doing the best séance there ever was. But much to her surprise, the séance actually calls forth the ghost of a previous resident. Power is knocked out and a horrible blizzard traps everyone at the estate. As if being trapped with strangers and her exes isn’t enough, everyone is awaken to find one of the Wellingtons dead in the cupola.

Lena Gregory has weaved together an imaginative story full of lies and deception. This is a story where everyone is hiding something and no one can be trusted. I loved that the story kept me guessing to the very end, with more than one surprise. I also loved that Lena has written a story that allows her core characters of Cass, Bee, and Stephanie to shine. I’m looking forward to the next book, Clairvoyant and Present Danger coming February 2018.

I couldn’t put this fun and entertaining cozy mystery down. Lena Gregory has created a loveable trio of friends that have you enjoying every moment of their story. Bee is the sweet guy who is there for Cass no questions asked. Stephanie is supportive and adventurous.

Cass is still trying to figure herself out. She has been burned in the past but she does not let that get to her. She is kind and fun. I love her story and how she does her readings. This story where she has a seance, reading weekend at a haunted house which is now a bed and breakfast and we get murder, mystery of the past and betrayals up the wazoo is great. Cass is strong and fun. I do love her new love interest and her dog is a hoot. I also enjoy that she just stumbles upon things and figures it out via intuition. She is a strong character with a great support system and group of friends around her. Her life isn’t a piece of cake which helps the reader relate to her. She fumbles through things like we all do and that makes her more relate-able and real.

A fun, adventurous one sit book that draws you into story and this crazy mystery from the beginning and doesn’t let you go until you see what is really going on, who is the killer and why. I also love all the reveals in this entertaining mystery and do hope to see more books of Cass and her friends in the future for they are a great entertaining group to read about.

I did enjoy this book, but I liked the supporting characters more than the main character. Cass makes a lot of decisions I can't relate to. example: I kept waiting for some sort of growth/resolution in terms of her complete inability to discipline her dog, with the story even pointing out that the dog's behavior is so bad that he's a danger to himself and others... still waiting. I liked the descriptions of the setting, but I never felt like I had a clear image of the characters. I would definitely read another book in this series, but I would want to see some of these things changing over time.

Another great mystery involving a haunted mansion and an ages old story of a murdered family member that may be the culprit of the haunting. Meanwhile, the current owners have their own mystery to solve when one of the family winds up dead in the same area of the house, according to the folklore passed down through the ages. Can our favorite psychic use her smart, intuitiveness to solve both murders, while playing hostess to a weekend getaway in the haunted mansion, during a stormy weekend? Don't miss this fast paced mystery filled with great characters and well thought out plot lines. If you haven't read book 1 yet, don't fret if you start here - it won't confuse the storyline and readers can always go back to catch up with the series.

Cass Donovan ditched her psychiatry practice and cheating husband to open Mystical Musings, and also gives private and group readings in her now psychic shop. Presently she's coaxed her best friends Bee and Stephanie to take her to a spooky mansion on an island, in the middle of winter. Once there, she tells them that she's convinced the owner, Priscilla Wellington, who's opening the home as a new B&B, to invite guests and she will have a seancé and give private and group meetings on the coming weekend.

The only drawbacks are the fact that her ex-husband Donald shows up with the reason for her divorce -- her ex-best friend Sylvia; and also the fact that one of the owners, Conrad Wellington, believes that the mansion is haunted with the ghost of a former owner and wants nothing to do with it. Still, with the help of Stephanie and Bee, and her dog Beast, Cass presses on. During the seancé, something strange occurs along with the loss of power, and everyone heads to their rooms. But then there's a scream during the night, and Cass, along with Priscilla's brother Jim, finds a body, killed in exactly the same way as the long dead owner. But Cass, with her innate curiosity, notices things that seem out of place. And when Stephanie's detective husband Tank can finally reach the island, he sees them, too.

Now Cass knows that not only will she have to find an alternative place to give the readings or lose everything, but that there's a killer on the loose - and it's someone that was in the mansion along with she and her friends. But will she be able to unmask a killer? Or will the killer find her first?...

This is the second book in the series and I must say that I truly enjoyed it more than the first. In the first book, I thought Bee was stereotypical, and Cass and Stephanie managed to get into situations that at least Stephanie should have known not to do. But I am very glad I decided to pick up this series again and start over.

Cass is an interesting character; she never admits she's a psychic, but she knows that she notices things about people and her surroundings that others may miss. If she wasn't in the business that she's chosen, she might have made a very good homicide detective. The only thing that bothered me this time out is the fact that she stated she chose this business because she didn't want the responsibility for someone else's life. If you do a reading for someone, you've taken some responsibility in their actions afterward (I know this because I read the Tarot). Not as great an extent as her previous profession, but it is there nonetheless.

I absolutely adore Bee this time. He's not only interesting, he's intelligent and loyal and has hidden talents that emerge just when you need them. He surprises both Cass and the reader with these from time to time.

As far as the mystery goes, it was very good. What's better than a haunted house without electricity? I would have loved to have seen more of a ghostly presence, but that's just me. I liked how the clues were presented, and even though I figured out the murderer before Cass, she put the pieces together with clues I missed myself.

The book kept me reading in one sitting, and can be read in an evening; it had enough characters to give us red herrings, but not enough to confuse us. When the ending comes and everything is revealed, it is done nicely and I do like the fact that Cass finally got a sort of "release" for something that she needed to have. I will definitely continue this series. Recommended.

It isn't often that I don't have a pretty good idea of the who, in "who done it". This book is an exception. Although I considered this person at times, I suspected so many others just as much. This was , to me, a great red herring filled mystery. It all came together in a well blended manner at the reveal.
Reading a series often takes some patience and understanding of how the story and characters/relationships grow from book to book. This is true in this, "A Bay Island Mystery" series. The first in the series left me with concerns about the judgement of Cass, at times . Putting herself in senseless danger ; the lack of knowledge when it came to the care of Beast. But............... as I like to see in a series that I read, Cass is making changes in herself. Her relationship to her endearing friend BEE and Steph is improving. Cass had trauma involving a past best friend that reflected on her relationship with her new friends. I am happy to see that she is growing past that and learning to trust again. Also the love interest. I LOVE that it wasnt , hello and what bed do we jump into. That relationship is sweet and I have high hopes for its future. Cass is also learning the responsibilities of dog ownership. The pros and cons of loving such an adorable creature as Beast. I have faith that in future books Cass will emerge much stronger and more reliable , self sufficient and lovable. I am waiting for the day that she can return the care and responsibility to her wonderful friends as they have cared for her. My favorite part in this , the second of the series...{"the punch to the face"}. SEE...Cass is already showing signs of growth and strength. You go girl.

*Received ARC copy from Netgalley which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Book two of the Bay Island Physic Mystery series. I do believe that the paranormal parts of this story are my favorites, and I would love to keep her dog Beast since he is constantly cracking me up with all the things he eats. In this story Cass is hosting a physic weekend at a newly opening bed and breakfast that is going into the haunted mansion on the island. It is believed there is a curse on the mansion which the killer uses to try to blame the murders on. Of course this never works as the investigation continues, but the killer threw me for a loop as I was not totally expecting that. A good choice for fans of cozy mysteries with a paranormal twist to them. I give it 4/5 stars.

Cass has barely gotten her psychic shop, Mystic Musings, off the ground when winter hits Bay Island. With tourists in short supply, she's hoping to draw in more customers and business by hosting a seance and group reading at an allegedly haunted local mansion. The new owners plan to turn the mansion into a bed and breakfast, and they are eager for the publicity the weekend will bring. Cass' excitement about the weekend fades when her ex-husband, Donald, shows up along with his new fiancee...who also happens to be Cass' former best friend. Nevertheless, her staunch friends, Stephanie and Bee, are there to keep her spirits up.

The seance is going well until a winter storm knocks the electricity out, and one of the owners of the mansion is found hanging in the cupola. While his death appears to be suicide, Cass believes he was murdered. When someone comes to Cass and asks her to contact the victim and later ends up dead as well, it seems that the killer thinks Cass may know more than she does. Now she needs to avoid a killer and solve the murders before anyone else ends up dead.

The story was interesting. I liked it better than the first one in the series. I especially like that Cass appears to possess some actual psychic abilities, although she is in denial. Bee is an absolute hoot, and I admire how Stephanie always has Cass' back. I would have enjoyed the story more, however, if my logic-brain hadn't kicked in.

**Spoilers**
- First of all, as a psychiatrist, Cass would also be a doctor, yet the sight of dead bodies and blood makes her woozy? She had to go to medical school before branching into psychiatry! Does the author not know the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist? Research it!
- Once again, allow me to point out that suicide does not automatically negate the payout of the death benefit on a life insurance policy. Policies usually have suicide clauses, which specify the benefit won't be paid in the event of suicide, but the typical time frame for such clauses is two years. Research! It annoys me when authors make assumptions like that.
- So, Cass rolled her car over on icy roads and was rendered unconscious, but the person who found her didn't call an ambulance? WTF? You don't just remove someone that badly injured from the car and take them somewhere safe. Good grief. Better yet, Cass was mostly fine the following day? That seems implausible.
- Cass' dog passed an obviously expensive diamond ring, which she just tossed in the trash. She only told the vet because she was concerned about the dog. You don't think that may have been a clue?
- Speaking of clues, for as much as I love cozy mysteries and amateur sleuths, why do they so often return to the scene of the crime, convinced they can find a clue that the trained police missed? Ugh.
- Why did the killer hustle another character away from a crowd and cold-cock her, intending to kill her later? Do you think you'll get the opportunity once she recovers? As a plot device, that was inane.

Characters were well-developed, including Cass' odious exes, and the plot moved along at a good tempo. In spite of my grievances with the less-than-logical aspects, I'm giving this one a four.

I love this story. I loved it so much I finished it in two sittings.

I read the first story in this series and really connected with the main character, Cass. I was happy to see that the author developed some different characters in this story and we really get to know her two best friends who are amazing personalities. The banter between then was the highlight of the story and I found myself chuckling out loud.

This story starts out with Cass struggling to keep her shop, Psychic Musings afloat in a tourist driven town. Winters can be tough so she thinks outside the box and plans a mystery weekend in the a house that is rumored to be haunted. People flock to the event and Cass is excited to host it but then her ex-husband walks I with her ex-best friend who she caught in an affair, something that obviously still haunts her despite her developing relationship with dreamy Luke from the first book who is working out of town.

Immediately the weekend is cut short when one of the guests is found dead in the attic, a sibling in the family that owns the property. Making things worse, a storm blows in and everyone is stuck in the house with the body. Cass catches her ex-husband in an awkward situation that puts him on the radar as a suspect and Cass, who didn’t hit it off with the dead sibling at all, becomes a suspect herself.

On top of that, the brother of the deceased catches Cass’s eye, and obvious sign that she is lonely and missing Luke who hasn’t been around a lot lately. In the beginning you think that Jim is a new love interest. To be honest, I was rooting for Cass to find some hot, sexy man to flaunt in front of her weasel ex-husband but as the story unfolds, the turmoil between the siblings come out and Jim’s character comes into question.

Worried about her future and the future of her little psychic shop which is her livelihood, she struggles to recover from the failed mystery weekend. With the help of her friends, she survives and the story unfolds after a series of challenges. I also want to add that Bee is my favorite and I want a best fiend like him so bad.

The only disappointment for me was how little Luke was present in this story because I am a true sucker for romance. Hopefully he makes a comeback in the next book.

Ultimately, I would recommend his story to anyone, my mom, my grandma, even my daughter because it is suitable for all ages and truly a perfect cozy mystery.

This was a great book.
A murder mystery weekend becomes a little too real in the latest Bay Island Psychic Mystery from the author of Occult and Battery—

Cass Donovan uses her skills as a former psychiatrist to get away with pretending to be psychic, but she’s not about to let anyone get away with murder...

The outlook is not so good for Cass’s psychic shop, Mystical Musings. With winter winds discouraging tourists from riding the ferry from Long Island to Bay Island, Cass hopes to draw in more customers by hosting a murder mystery weekend, complete with a séance, in a supposedly haunted mansion.

But Cass begins to lose her spirit when her ex-husband shows up, along with his fiancée—Cass’s ex-best friend. Then after one of the guests is found dead, a blizzard blows in, trapping everyone inside with a murderer. Now Cass must divine who did the deed before her reputation and her livelihood fade away.

As a former psychiatrist with exceptional skills at reading people Cass Donavan plays at being psychic although she's beginning to wonder if her intuition is more than that. With Winter in full force, Cass' shop isn't doing as well as she'd like so she hosts a murder mystery weekend at a supposedly haunted mansion that's being opened as a bed and breakfast. Unfortunately, on there's a murder on the first night. In addition, her ex-husband is there with his fiancée her ex-best friend which throws her a bit.
Things get even more dicey when there's a second murder. Can Cass help solve the mysteries before her shop fails?

This was an excellent book and I recommend it to anyone who likes ghosts and mysteries.

Cass Donovan is the owner of Mystical Musings, a "psychic" shop on Bay Island, a ferry ride away from Long Island. Winter brings cold weather and a lack of customers to her shop, so she has an idea to stage a "psychic weekend" at a local mansion, which is supposedly haunted. Things don't go quite as planned when murder and a blizzard interrupt the weekend, keeping everyone stranded on the island. This is a decent mystery, although I found Cass herself to be a bit close to the TSTL type heroine, constantly depending on her friends Stephanie Lawrence and Bee Maxwell to take care of everything for her. Okay for an afternoon's read, but I doubt I will pick up another.

I love the relationship between Cass and her friends and how supportive they are of each other. Love the setting. The island offers so many possibilities, like being cut off from everywhere else in the winter when the ferry isn't running. Cass' business makes the story interesting and there were so many suspects to the murder, it made for interesting guessing. While I was able to guess the killer, there still was some interesting twists. However, Cass made a couple of decisions that I couldn't agree with and they were pretty big for me (not being checked by a doctor after being unconscious & putting off the dog's training - he is very destructive). I've already started book 3.

This was a great book! To supplement her income during the winter months, Cass Donovan sets up a psychic weekend in a supposedly haunted house that is being turned into a bed and breakfast. When one of the organizers/hosts of the event, is found dead, Cass is worried that her business won’t survive. She is determined to set out to find the killer with her two best friends, Bee and Stephanie. I truly enjoy this series and find it entertaining. I look forward to the next book and seeing if Luke and Cass develop more of a relationship!

In cozy mysteries the characters have to be fun and well written. Gregory hits her trio of friends on the head. And who wouldn't love Beast? Bay Area Psychic series has a perfect blend of shenanigans and seriousness. I actually find Cass's method of readings quite fascinating. And of course I adore Bee. I feel like I could be friends with these characters in real life. Especially my sassy, flamboyant fashionista.

This is a cute series of “cozy” mysteries. It’s not much more than a bit of mind candy. With stock characters that are pretty predictable, one doesn’t go deep, but that’s ok. The characters are pleasant, the mysteries no big surprise, and even the supposed paranormal angle is put out there in a “is it or isn’t it” manner. Great for a weekend at the beach or cabin, or when real life is stressful enough.

I loved this series and this is the second book in the series. The characters were so funny I loved them. The main character used to be a psychiatrist but gave it up when her patient dies. She returns to her hometown and becomes a psychic. She gives readings, sells crystals and does seances.
