Chronicles of Mystra: Vol1 Book1:Kiosan and Book2:Cenchrea complete in one volume.
In the wake of the Kryllidar war, creatures of myth and legend, the elder races, and the psychically gifted fled the telepath phobic Alliance worlds in search of sanctuary. They found their safe haven on the planet Mystra. It was a paradise world, then something went horribly. A great cataclysm unleashed a storm of deadly energy that threatened to tear the planet apart. Cut off from the rest of space by a barrier of destructive force, all appeared lost. Then from despair came hope. The energies unleashed by the cataclysm had an unexpected effect. Dormant genes carried by women of an ancient Druidic line were suddenly activated, giving the women the ability to control the elemental forces of nature. The elementals saved Mystra from destruction, but their newfound power came with a price. The incredible forces they wielded, in time, destroyed them. Only by bonding with a male, who also carried the dormant gene, could an elemental be saved and her powers safely harnessed.
An elemental’s power reaches maturity on midnight of her twenty first year. If she is not bonded before the midnight hour, the elemental will go mad, lose control of her powers and destroy herself and everything around her. Tivonna, daughter of King Arcus of Aquilla is nearing her twenty first year. A level four elemental, her father has searched the planet for a bondmate, a kiosan, that can match his daughter in power. Searched and failed. He is left with no choice. For the good of Mystra, at midnight on her twenty first birthday Tivonna must die.
Meanwhile, high above Mystra’s skies a golden starship takes up orbit around the shrouded world. Jasen, telepath and last of his kind, has come to Mystra seeking answers. Beings of fire and light appeared from nowhere and swarmed across the galaxy before disappearing as mysteriously as they had appeared. In the creatures’ wake three star systems lay in ruins. Nothing survived except for one lone world. The planet Mystra was untouched. Now Jasen and his friend Hawk will do what no one has done in centuries. Penetrate the planet’s deadly energy barrier and reach the surface below. What they find there will change their lives forever and may hold the key to saving more star systems from destruction. For the fiery invaders are not gone … only sleeping.
Crystalphoenix is a research chemist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, with a penchant for the metaphysical. She lives in Kennesaw with two great roommates who encourage her to pursue a creative outlet (as in nags her to write), one spoiled dog and a tiger that masquerades as a Bengal cat who oversees her work.
Imagine, you're in a planet where nobody knows what Earth is like. They are thrilled and frightened to see you and consider YOU as an alien. You can somehow communicate to them and know what's going on in their mind. Technology is something to be feared of for the natives and they have not progressed much on the frontiers of science.
And worst of all.
They consider you as an enemy of the state.
How will you defend yourself in there?
Explaining yourself and about your planet, how would you feel knowing that nobody's believing you, ultimately getting to know that you are the person everyone was waiting for and now you have to save everyone and everything!
No problema, Señor.
Excited! Won't you be?
Mystra had the same effect on me!
In case you're wondering what Mystra is, it is a planet. A distinct and distant one.
Set in year 2605, Mystra is a stunning book where most planets are being destroyed by an unknown force.
Jasen, a telepath finds himself left in a planet with nobody else like him. With powers like him.
Hawk, a Fidillie, who has the power to transform into anything, has pledged to help Jasen in every quest. Even if it would cost him his life, Hawk is ready to serve Jasen.
Tivonna, an elemental, is about to die on her 21st birthday because in Planet Mystra, if someone fails to find his bondmate, he must not live as they become dangerous to other people. Despite being the daughter of King of Aquilla, Tivonna has to confront this protocol.
Jasen, Hawk and Tivonna are to fulfill a prophecy that will ultimately save Planet Mystra.
Unlike other fantasy books that speak about the prophecies about the protagonists since the start, Mystra stood out. Until you come to the middle of the book, you won't be guessing what will happen next.
Or shall I say, we couldn't be guessing right!
Jasen did not fall for Tivonna all of a sudden, which was justified, believable and splendid. The detailed portrayal of all characters was what intrigued me the most.
Story development was with such an ease that it spoke about the finery this book contained. First, Crystalphoenix (yes, pen name and a good one for that matter) takes time to build it up for you. The next moment, you know you are engrossed into it.
I felt attached to even side-casts, such as Sivena, Tivonna's mother, who has absolutely no visible role and yet Crystalphoenix managed to play the cords that were untouched.
Verdict : A little package loaded with Sci-fi thrill for you!
Will I rate this as one of the best in the genre this year?
Got a proof copy of this book from the author to Review. The story's set in the wake of the Kryllidar war, during which all the creatures of myths and legend, the elder races and the physically gifted fled away and settled there new world on the planet Mystra. Everything was going good till something horrible happened... The concept was awesome! And was presented in a even better manner with beautiful narration and dialogues! The story is written in such a manner that you can't diverse your attention from it, until you complete it!
This book is a sci fi fantasy book. It is a great attempt at a book. It did fall short for me in many ways, though. While a great story, the relationship between Jasen and Tivonna was instantaneous at first, then they had some set backs, and then it was back in full affect. And that is ok, but you only get a glimpse. And this would be fine if it were a backdrop in the book, but the relationship between the two is an integral part of the book, and as a reader you just don't feel the connection. The other parts, Hawk and the story seemed almost thrown in. And while there was a lot of excitement, it kept going and going and really got monotonous in the middle/ending.
I really did enjoy parts of the book, but over all there are some places that are begging for a redo.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. So I took a chance and I'm glad I did. The story line captured my attention and it interesting and enjoyable. My complements to the author.

Loved this book and want to read more by this author
DISCLAIMER: I received an ARC of this book (via the author) in exchange for honest review.
This was amazing! I was surprised all the way through. I loved the characters; this book was filled with what I like to call 'Aha moments'. Everything just began to fall into place and made perfect sense, and I had Goosebumps. Alotta Goosebumps.
I did not want it to end! Let's just say I would be very happy to know there is more coming. The author did an amazing job to build a new world and brings a new light to already well-known myths we all know and love. Centaurs, Wer, Mer, Aliens, Dragons. Telepaths, Elementals. And let me not forget to mention Love at first sight. Literally. A fun, clean read that everyone can enjoy.
This is a well-written and well-constructed sci-fi/fantasy. Though I wasn't too attached to any of the characters in particular, they were fully realized and existed in an interesting and thoroughly developed world. The pacing was a little forced in parts but otherwise I enjoyed it.

I loved this book!!!!!! Sadly due to an emergency surgery it took me quite a long time to get through it, but it I absolutely loved every second of reading this book! The characters were well developed, it was perfectly paced, there were surprise twists that you didn't see coming, and it held my attention even through the fog of painkillers. There were some spelling and grammatical errors, but nothing huge. I am already planning on buying everything else this author has in this series just to see what happens next!!
Mystra was pretty interesting to start off with. A planet where women are showing elemental powers, and an orphan/last of his kind with telepathic abilities that the society he is part of would kill if they knew about it. I don’t know what part of this book I lost interest at, but I could not get into this book after a point. Despite this, I think this book was very well written and has a lot of promise. I will have to read this again in the future and change my review accordingly.
Just because I couldn’t get into this book doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try it. My perspective at the time prevented me from enjoying this book, but that doesn’t mean YOU won’t enjoy it yourself.
OH MY GOD! This book, I swear to God, I almost always find visualizing the worlds in science fiction novels, but this one was a whole other story! I wasn't lying when I said I'd cry when I finished this! I'm so glad I requested this to read! I'm hoping there's going to be more of the adventures of Jasen, Hawk, and Tiovanna, because I'm flaming Hawk as my kiosan because he's my favorite!
Impossible to put down. Non-stop action, fantastical characters, mostly fantasy with a bit of science fiction, this book has it all. You cannot help getting caught up in it. When you are finished, you hope that the next one will not be long in coming out.
