For the most part I enjoy MS's stories, there is heat and plot and plenty of romance....but, the one thing that keeps MS from being one of the greats on my favorite author list, is her hurried endings. There is never any retribution, often the H is a complete ass, but he never actually needs to work for forgiveness. MS's h's all seem to be strong independent women at the beginning, but that all disappears the minute sex is brought into the picture, it seems to turn all her h's into spineless doormats, who forgive even the most cruel and hurtful behavior by the H, without him having to work at it at all, most of the time he barely has to apologist, it's all, show up, offer sex, get off and all is forgiven instantly. Ms Schroeder, human nature 101, we can't forgive that easily, especially if we love deeply. It is simply not possible. Every human being might say they forgive, but the actual re-building of love and trust takes a lot of time, and a lot more than sex and a ring.
This is a book with three short stories, and I read only the first one, having to do with Shana and Marcus. Shana is secretly a telepath in a future society where paranormals are criminalized, working in a counterterrorism organization. When she suddenly starts getting vibes from her boss, Marcus, things heat up quickly - a little too quickly for an office romance, imo. Whatever - it's a short story, and the action has to keep moving. The future world that Schroeder creates is an interesting one and I look forward to getting my hands on the other two shorts that make up this book.
Voices Carry by Melissa Schroeder ***** I couldn't put it down! This story caught my attention immediately and I couldn't put it down. It was sexy and well written, along with the secrets and intrigue. I really liked the characters, and the nice HEA wrap up! Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Hot! steamy! Full of smut! But not only about the smutt. I cared for the characters, wanted them to be happy! The world they live in I couldn't quite grasp, so much going on I couldn't see the world they home in. But can understand the issues that affect their decisions. So world build was ok, character but was very good, smut was intensely hot! 3.6 stars
This was a good read, tho it went very fast for my taste. Ms. Schroeder can tell a very interesting story. I hope there's more where this came from. Amd hopefully longer too.
If you want a short sexy read, this is it! Hot and steamy with an interesting, albeit minimal plot. Minimal world building, couldn’t quite picture it. Still enjoyable and I will be checking out book 2.
