Fired from his band teacher job at Jefferson High and facing massive bills, Ron Emerson turns to his eccentric Uncle Fred, proud owner of a piano restoration business and illegal immigrant sweatshop.
The price for Uncle Fred's help proves to be steep as Ron gets caught up in his uncle's latest scheme to sell an illicit drug obtained from one of his illegal Mexican employees, plunging them both into increasingly dangerous encounters with a vengeful local sheriff and the Mexican cartel.
Meanwhile, Ron meets the very person who took his band teacher job, the lovely young Vicky Lavender, and despite the odds – and Ron's enduring loyalty to his recently deceased wife – a powerful attraction blossoms.
Why does this book only have one review? It's fab! This is my second book by Lawrence Ambrose and I should not have let this sit on my Kindle for so long without reading it! I had several laugh out loud moments when I read this on holiday and more than once I sat up late trying to finish. The story is long which I love, has lots of twists and the characters are sometimes sweet, sometimes naughty. Around the 3/4 mark I crossed my fingers it would end a certain way but I couldn't have guessed the direction it took. If you like a book that makes you laugh and that you'll still be thinking about a week after you finish it, this is the one for you!
