After graduating with a first class degree in advertising, graphic design and illustration in 1997, Jim Smith was spotted by the owner of a small coffee shop chain and brought in to fill the walls of their flagship store with his paintings.
It was a three month contract; seventeen years later, Jim is head of design at Puccino's Worldwide Ltd, now an international coffee shop franchise with stores in the UK, Europe and Egypt.
In the meantime he's illustrated kids' food packaging for M&S, drawn cartoons on the sides of PJ smoothies, created in-store graphics for Orange phone stores, designed book covers and branded a New York based Iced Tea company.
In 2010, Jim launched the hugely successful Waldo Pancake range of stationery and gift products, now sold in the UK, Australia, Singapore, Europe and the US.
'I am not a Loser' by Barry Loser, the first of a series of children's books 'spellchecked' by Jim, was published in 2012, having already sold rights to nine countries. The sequel, 'I am Still Not a Loser' was the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013 and declared the funniest book for children aged seven to fourteen.
Jim has now written six Barry Loser books, and numerous short stories. 'Future Ratboy', a spin-off series of books based on Barry's favourite TV star, debuts in July 2015.
this book is about a boy is call Barry Loser, and every one laugh of his name but barry never minded about his name because of he think his coolness has always cancelled out. But ever since Darren Darrenofski joined school with his horrible little crocodile face he's been completely ruining his life about it.
I love love love all the characters and how they're drawn (what is it about big noses?) except you, darrenofski whatever. You don't make fun of people's names you twat
I will start by saying I am not in the target audience for this book. However, I do like reading children’s books once in a while, because they can be unbelievably funny and clever. This was neither of those things. Cheap humour, a plot that jumps from place to place without any need to or anything to join events, characters that are completely uninteresting, unrealistic scenarios, and simplistic language that should have been aimed at a much, much younger audience. I don’t think this book is doing children any favours. Boring beyond belief, with not an ounce of cleverness or skill throughout. Do not give this book to your child if you want them to grow up intelligent. I’m being 100% serious. There’s no moral here. It’s just slop.
As an adult this book would probably be closer to 2 stars. This isn’t a book that will be a childhood classic that you’ll keep coming back to, however if you are a child then I believe you will enjoy this book. I’ll even go so far as to say it will probably make you laugh out loud and tell your friends about it.
It is written from the perspective of a young boy and the language, humour and sensibilities are of a young boy. There is name calling, silly escapades and some bullying behaviour from characters.
All in all it would be fun to read with a child and watch them giggling at some bits and allow interesting discussions on why some of the behaviour and actions are not very nice.

Funny like a diary of a wimpy kid book perfect for around ages 7-12 love the jokes and how each book is different and you do not have to read it in order
