Rate this book
You have to leap if you want to know how it feels to fly.

What could be more devastating than being dumped? For Mila Quinn, it’s the discovery of her boyfriend having a baby with another woman. Surrounded by reminders of her shattered relationship, Mila drops everything to stay with her aunt in Hawaii. But nothing could prepare her for what awaits in paradise.

Needing a distraction from her aching heart, Mila accepts the olive branch of friendship from Gage Madden, a local who offers to show her the hidden treasures of the island. As they discover the beauty of Hawaii together, Mila begins to wonder if the tropical scenery isn’t the only distraction paradise has to offer. But behind the curtain is a brewing storm that could capsize her happiness once again.

Mila may have escaped from the pain of her past, but that doesn’t mean it won’t come looking for her.

This book was impossible to put down. I would have read it in one sitting if I could. At least I could finish it in one day. :)
It swept me of my feet right away. This story is an adorable quick read and kind of refreshing. It mad me smile a lot and left me mostly swooning over Hawaii. I really wish I can go there one day. The setting of Hawaii fitted the story perfectly.
Even when Mila seems like a whiney character, she's pretty strong but not able to see or feel it. I admire her for her ability to adapt to the circumstances life throws at her. And Gage seems to good to be true so it's easy to fall for him if you are as dreamy as I am :)

Easy, breezy, quick ya read that was the perfect book to read after a serious nonfiction book. Despite containing a few cliches, the book still has some interesting twists and turns that kept my attention. Will definitely look for other books by this author!

I read this book threw #QuirkyBlindDateWithABook

I really loved this book. It gripped my attention from the beginning to the end. I loved how it had everything from heartache to love. It takes you on a rollercoaster. Once you think you got it all figured out you get surprised because there is always more.
I loved that there is photography in this book because it helps you see the world more from the characters perspective. It showed an unique aspect.
I want to know more about the supporting characters Liam and Baylee.

Review to come!

Update 2/22/17:

Wow, wow, wow! This book blew me away! I found it difficult to put down, and honestly I never wanted to stop reading it. For debut author, V.P. Ortiz, this is sure to be a hit among fans of contemporary romance, and you will not want to miss out. Her writing is excellent and how couldn’t you love a story that takes place in the gorgeous setting of Hawaii?! With a beautiful backdrop and amazing characters, Finding Paradise is a book you have to check out now!

The story itself is a pretty quick read, but you will love every second of it. There were some parts I found predictable, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. If I’m being honest, it was actually very refreshing to read a story such as this because everything felt very natural in the story. There was no moment that I felt the story or the characters’ actions were forced or unrelatable. Everyone, especially Mila (our MC) was relatable and made me love the story even more. I can’t imagine a better setting for this story to take place than in Hawaii. And let me tell you, Ms. Ortiz truly made Hawaii come alive (and made me want to book a flight there as soon as I got done reading)!

Mila is an excellent main character to follow. She is very strong and willing to go the extra mile for others. But in this story, she learns that sometimes she needs to put herself first and take risks. There are so many times that we are hesitant to do something crazy or adventurous because we don’t want to break out of our little box. But sometimes that’s exactly what we need to make us come alive again, move on from whatever is holding us back, and become who we are truly meant to be. And that is exactly what Mila does in this book. I truly admired Mila’s ability to adapt to her new surroundings and cope with the events in her life. The romance is sweet and light, and very well done. Gage often seems too good to be true (*hint hint there’s a twist with his character**) but it’s easy to fall in love with him. I did like that they started off as friends, and even though it progressed somewhat quickly, it was still believable. There were some very cilche moments with their romance, but it didn’t make me love this book any less.

Overall, I would highly recommend checking out this book as it is one that you don’t want to miss! V.P. Ortiz writes an amazing story that will easy sweep you off your feet and have you desperate to go to Hawaii as soon as possible. It was a quick read that was sweet and exactly what you need in the middle of winter. Add this to your TBR right away!

Happy reading :)

When we read the description of this book we know that the heroines life is turned upside down, but for her, it doesn't mean the end of the world and sometimes good things can come after heart ache, but it wasn't easy to get there.

Mila had her heart broken in a horrible way, but I love how strong she was. Yes she was sad and depressed but after some time while on vacation she slowly starts to heal. She had a lot of internal struggles with deciding what to do.

Gage was super cute from their first meeting. He was awkward but also had a Air of confidence about him. I love how much her cared and how he was able to be what Mila needed at different times.

The pace of the story was good. At times a little fast but it worked well with the story. There was some amazing banter between Gage and Mila. They started off slowly as friends but as the story went on, their feeling started to change and I enjoyed watching that. There was low drama which made it even better.

There is a reason I'm giving it 3.4!stars but it could spoil if o go into too much detail but because of that reason, I lost respect for a character that I had so much love for. So while I still liked the story, and for most of the book I liked the characters I can't get over that lost respect.

Overall, if your looking for a light fun quicker (250 pages) read then you'll enjoy this. This won't be the last book that I read from this author. 3.5 stars #2OCCJD.

Mila has known heartbreak in her life - her parents were killed in a car crash when she was 15 and so when at 17 she meets Ethan he becomes her life. At the end of her sophomore year at college she is all set ready to move into a flat with Ethan when he breaks her heart - another woman is 5 months pregnant with his baby!

Devastated she flees to her aunts house in Hawaii, but on the plane on the way there she sits next to the most gorgeous guy, Gage, but it is far too soon to be feeling attraction isn't it! When she bumps into Gage again on the beach she is still attracted but tells him that she is heartbroken and wants nothing but friendship....can they both stick to that.....and what other surprises are in line for her to send her running back to Arizona

A sweet story with some good characters, a bit predictable, but for me made by the descriptions of Hawaii - definitely a place that I would like to visit after reading this book

Overall the story telling was good, I just feel like the details and the characters could have been greater defined. Mila was of course well defined, but the other characters, even Gage were a bit mysterious. Mila has been through too much heartbreak, yet she easily falls "in love" with a stranger. Cute easy read, just don't expect it to be high level. Still had quite a few editing errors in it, which breaks the reader's flow.

What a sweet, heartwarming, refreshing read. It was an enjoyable, fast paced, well told story. It’s full of sweetness with its own sourness to keep things real. It has the type of happiness that will keep you smiling like an idiot as you read it, but also has the details to make your heart break.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It flowed well and the details were perfect. The descriptions kept the visuals going the farther I read. It pulled out a string of emotions from me, from sappy, to happy, to sad, to frustrated, to downright angry. I felt a deep sense of love though from the characters, both male and female. It was really one of those “feel good” books with a mix of anger and frustration.
I applaud the author with the way she wrote the story. She has, without a doubt, made me want to travel to Hawaii, but also made me want to check out more of her work. I definitely recommend to check out this story, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I really liked that this story started straight in the middle of the action. No tedious back story to get through.

The foreshadowing was a little obvious at times, but the slow build of the narrative worked. The harshness of the initial break-up did a good job of setting the tone for Mila's outlook on relationships, and although at times, I did want to give her a shake, her steps to getting over the end of what she had with Ethan was dealt with in a very realistic, yet sensitive manner.

Finding Paradise is a New Adult Contemporary book focusing on Mila who, after a break-up with her long term boyfriend, spends her summer vacation in beautiful Hawaii visiting her Aunt and cousin Baylee. While in Hawaii Mila finds her heart may be healing and she may just find another love is possible. This book swept the gamut of emotions. From grief to overwhelming joy, this book made me feel it all. Mia’s character was relatable and I could empathic well with her, Baylee, as a side character was amazing. I loved the scenes between these two cousins so much. The slow burning friends to more relationship had me hooked and the chemistry between those two was unbelieveable. It was an utter joy reading this book if only because it made me feel.

This review is going to be short and sweet. I really enjoyed reading this book but I just lacked something that made me want to give it five stars. My favourite thing about this book was the setting. I really got a great description of Hawaii and, more specifically, Oahu. It sounded like such a beautiful place and I was so happy to be able to learn more about it. The description was so vivid and I’m so happy about that. It’s definitely a place I want to visit.

We also got quite a few Hawaiian words which was pretty cool. I mean, most of the time, I couldn’t pronounce them but it was still pretty awesome.

While I did enjoy the main storyline, I kind of found it a little boring. Which, will now contradict me saying it was also very dramatic. It kind of flew by which i was happy about but nothing really major happened. It took place over like two months but everything that happened could have happened in less than a week. The reason why I’m saying it was dramatic is because there were a couple surprises but, to be honest, they didn’t really add anything to the plot. It was just a little bland.

Gage was so sweet though. I really liked him.

There were just a couple of things I was a little bothered by that seemed like unfinished business but there’s nothing to be done about that now that it’s over.

Still, if you’d like to live vicariously through Mila and learn about Hawaii, read this and it will satisfy.

Finally, this book is categorized as new adult and does follow new adult aged characters, it’s completely clean and I’d be more inclined to call it a young adult novel.

Also, I’d just like to mention, Mila starts a travel blog and within like a month has racked up quite the number of followers. Which, I guess could happen but is unlikely. She’s somewhere near the five hundred mark with nothing more than a share on Facebook of her post. I know obviously it’s only fictitious but it’s also highly unrealistic.

Finding Paradise is such a sweet read. When I was reading I transported to a magical place. The author does an EXCELLENT job explaining every detail so that you feel in the story and on the island. Hawaii is and has always been on my bucket list. Thanks to the great detail, Hawaii is moving up!

Mila and Gage are two characters that win you over from the beginning. Mila is hurt and trying to heal. Gage is the a naive islander that is drawn in to Mila. He wants to show her all the beauties. Along the way, the beauties of the island show them how to love and heal. What happens when you heal and the one that hurt you knocks on your door? Can you walk away from someone who has taught you how to love yourself or can old love fall into place?

I love everything about this book, from the characters to the setting. The characters are a perfect pair and give you a great sense of love and new beginnings!

This good was my January Blind date with a Book and it was given to me free for my honest review. This was a great first book for this author. It was tough to get into this book. I think It is because I could not handle the heartbreak in the beginning of the book. But the meat of this story takes place on the heart of Oahu. Mrs. Ortiz penned a wonderful novel the captures the beauty of the island. It made me want to visit all the places Mila and Gage visit. Overall I found it a great story that was easy to read once I got through the beginning. I wish there were more positives in the story but I understand the need for drama. I would read this author again. Here is the blurb:

From debut author V.P. Ortiz comes a sweet and compelling NA romance novel that will have you booking your next vacation to Hawaii to find an island love of your own!

Mila Quinn is ready to finally move out of the college dorms into an apartment with her longtime boyfriend, Ethan Lowe. But when Ethan reveals a big secret, her world is suddenly turned upside down, stirring up old memories of love and loss. Completely torn apart, she boards a plane to Hawaii to escape for the summer.

Even though Mila wants to spend her time in paradise in isolation, fate has other plans when it drops sexy local Gage Madden in her lap. Hesitant at first, she agrees to let him take the reins on her island exploration. As Mila discovers the wonders of Oahu with Gage, it becomes harder for her to fight the budding attraction between them.

But behind the curtain of island adventures and undeniable chemistry, trouble is brewing where Mila least expects it. Secrets begin to bubble to the surface that could destroy her all over again. Will Mila find her paradise? Or will she leave Hawaii with another broken heart?

I read this book through Quirky Blind Date with a Book. I was my first from this from this author and can't wait to read more from her. This book will have you on a roller-coaster but don't give up hope that things will work out for Mila.

Mila had her heartbroken in the worst way when the boyfriend she thought she was moving in with over the summer told her he was having a baby with another girl. Once again she was alone and depressed. The only family she had was a aunt and cousin who lived in Hawaii. When they invited to come stay with them over the summer her life once again is turned upside down. Will she find the happiness she deserves or will she be devastated again?

When she meet the hot and sexy Gage on the airplane, she thinks it was a once in a life time chance meeting and she will never see him again. They felt the connection but fight it. When they meet up again in Hawaii he is destined to show her how to find herself and find love again.

I loved seeing Hawaii through her and the descriptions of her pictures. It made me really hope that one day I get the chance to see it first hand.

I loved how in the end Mila grows into a strong willed women and learns form her heartbreaks. Will she get her HEA? You will have to read it to find out.

Choices & Fate
This is the first book that I've read by this author and I have to say, it's a must read! Thank you blind date for setting me up with this book. This book brings out a lot of emotions for the characters, but it may have you thinking about your own "self portrait" too. That may not make sense to you now, but when you read the book, it will! Mila Quinn has been with Ethan Lowe for three years. He has cheated on her and she escapes to Hawaii, where her family lives. She discovers all paradise has to offer, with the help of the person who sat next to her on the plane, a local, Gage Madden. She's made it clear, she's just gotten out of a relationship and doesn't want more. However, the author helps you feel their pull, which is not easy to do. Mila signs up for a photography class and Gage brings her to all the local places, some of them are hidden from the usual tourists. Eventually, Mila gives in to the attraction. However, just as they are starting up, Ethan comes crashing into their life, as well as another secret that Gage is hiding from Mila. Who will Mila choose, Ethan or Gage? What is Gage hiding? Will it influence her decision?

Paradise Can Be Found In Hawaii

V.P. Ortiz has written a book that I really struggled to put down. In fact I didn't, one sessionis all it took - it was brilliant. I only wish that there was more.

Mila Quinn has been ina relationship with her boyfriend Ethan for three years. Suddenly it is no more, when Ethan finally reveals a secret he has been hiding. As a result, Mila heads straight to Hawaii, where her family is, to do some heavy thinking about her future.

Mila meets Gage Madden, on the plane ride over to the islands, a man who seems too good to be true. Together they explore the island of Oahu together and find an attraction neither was expecting. But Gage has a secret, one that will cause heartache once again. Can Mila survive this secret? Will she run again?

It was a wonderful story that was so easy to read. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. This was her debut book, so I honestly say, "stand up and take a bow".

FOUR STARS Well earned

Mila has everything. Until Ethan destroys her.
She runs away for the Summer to the beautiful Island of Hawaii to mend her broken heart. What she finds, she was not expecting.

I really loved this book. It was a slow burn, which I didn't realise I'd missed. The location- Hawaii, was almost like an extra character in the book. I really appreciated the on point descriptions. I almost felt like I was there.

Mila mends her broken heart with the help of Gage. I feel like the relationship between Mila and Gage was a secondary element, and the main topic was Mila finding herself. I appreciated that the book wasn't hot and heavy, but still had enough of a storyline to keep the reader hooked.

Downfall IMO- using the same storyline twice for two seperate characters.

I think Alana could have been used as a more dramatic character with a bigger dramatic scene, but it didn't bother me that she wasn't because this wasn't that type of book :-)

I loved the ending. It was so romantic and like a scene from a movie.

I'd recommend to a friend and read more from this author :-)

This book was awesome, and I absolutely loved it. The setting was great, and you could really picture all of the Hawaiian settings that take place throughout the book. That was one of my favorite things about this book. The descriptions the writer uses and the way she creates and sets up scenes was done really well!

I loved all of the characters, however there were some character flaws that I didn't like here and there, but I won't go into that because I don't want to give away any spoilers. That is the main reason I dropped this read from a 5 star to a 4 star. I really like Gage's character, and he was super sweet.

All around this was a great debut book by this author!

When Mila's boyfriend of three years reveals to her in a crowded resturant that he not only cheated on her, but that the other woman is also 5 months pregnant, she leaves Arizona to stay with her aunt in Hawaii for the summer. On the plane ride there she meets Gage. The attraction is instant and when she runs into him on the beach they decide to be friends. But just when Mila thinks that she can give Gage her heart, something happens that makes her run back to Arizona. I really liked this book. It was fast paced and a quick read. I found some of the actions of the characters to be a little immature, but they were really young. Overall it was a good book

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
We find Mila mid-crisis in the beginning of the book. Her then boyfriend Ethan reveals a huge, upsetting secret. Due to this he and Mila end their relationship and she heads to Hawaii to spend the summer with her Aunt and Cousin. At first Mila is unbelievably upset but eventually she picks herself back up with the help of Gage, a handsome stranger she met on the plane ride there.
I loved this story. It was beautifully written and had a great amount of twists and turns. A perfect New Adult read.

I really loved Finding Paradise! A very fun, well-written story. It is hard to believe that it V.P.Ortiz’s debut book!

Set in beautiful Hawaii; this story takes us on a journey of watching Mila mend her broken heart while finding her footing to take a leap of faith with the swoon-worthy Gage. Happy to see her put her pond-scum ex-boyfriend, Ethan, behind her; I couldn’t help but root for Gage and Mila to find their way to a HEA.

V.P.Ortiz has a new fan! I can’t wait to see what she brings us next.

Mila has been through hell and back with her past and Ethan so she runs to Hawaii to stay with her aunt and Baylee. Best decision EVER!

I loved seeing Mila turn from a scared girl into a strong willed woman. It was a beautiful story. Gage was such a blessing for her.

And who couldn't hope and pray for her HEA.
