Abbreviated version of Alice in Wonderland retold with Hello Kitty in the main role. Cute Hello Kitty drawings over a couple dozen pages, but not much there. If the reader doesn't know about Alice's adventures, there's not much plot to hold the reader's interest. It's like a brief dream mashup of the two stories. Not terribly satisfying.
Sanrio, Kabushiki Kaisha. Hello Kitty Presents the Storybook Collection: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, PICTURE BOOK. Abrams Appleseed, 2017. $6.95.
Hello Kitty is having lunch with her sister in the park one day when she sees a squirrel run by. She follows it and falls down a hole into a strange land. She finds the squirrel and solves a mystery for the Queen of Hearts to save the day and wake up from her wonderful dream.
This is a version of Alice in Wonderland that young readers who love Hello Kitty will enjoy. It’s not the exact same story as the original, but has most of the same details. There are likely better versions out there.
Alice in Wonderland is not my favorite story, but this left out a lot of the weirdness to just give the bare-bones retelling of the story. With added HK adorableness in the illustrations, I actually enjoyed it.
Now I want tea and tarts, too.
I read this as part of the Hello Kitty Presents the Fairytale Collection omnibus.
It's not about the writing... but I don't understand when you have 2 killer brands not bothering to find a writer who will bring a real spark to the fusion.
Hello Kitty is on a picnic with her sister when she sees a squirrel run by! She follows the squirrel and ends up in Wonderland, where she meets all kinds of fascinating characters, including the Queen of Hearts. But when the Queen’s fresh-baked tarts are stolen, only Hello Kitty can remember the rhyme that will help solve the mystery! You can read this entire review at San Diego Book Review
I love Hello Kitty, and I love Alice in Wonderland. I should love this book but I don't. Unfortunately, this book falls short in both story line and the illustrations. It's a just another generic Hello Kitty book, that banks on the brand name, with no innovations to the story. The illustrations are decent, but they leave something to be desired. The biggest offense, is that they have not included the Cheshire cat, and a variety of other prominent Alice in Wonderland characters. It's a decent read, but I'm glad I didn't buy it.

This is a delightful take on Alice in Wonderland but this time using Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters. It's a very peacful version of the story with a squirrel taking the place of the White Rabbit and a bear taking the place of the Mad Hatter. The Red Queen is also nice and normal and everyone gets along wonderfully.
