Second Chances is a hopeful and thoughtful compendium of anecdotes from people who have wanted another chance at something—and have taken it. It’s the big stuff like going back to college after the kids have grown up, as well as the little things like getting a judo belt when you thought you could hardly manage a push-up. The book collects the hopeful examples of people who found a leg up, another spurt of energy, a hidden talent, or even an untapped strength, sometimes with the unexpected help of friends or strangers. Combining the feel-good qualities of One Good Deed and the crowdsourcing methods of Like My Mother Always Said , Erin McHugh’s latest book is an inspirational guide about letting the future win over the past.
I received a copy of this book through Goodreads' First Reads program. This is a quick read, with individual stories averaging 1-2 pages. It is inspiring to see the second chances that have changed the lives of each contributor. The stories encompass everything from mundane encounters to near death experiences. Sometimes the second chances are professional, others personal, but it is interesting to see what a person looks back on and identifies as a pivotal moment, in hindsight.
I absolutely love the idea and concept behind this book. It was a breezy read that left me wanting more. People from different walks of life get to tell their story of a second chance with their own words. Each person's interpretation of a second chance gave me insight as to who this person was spiritually and emotionally. A unique book with a warm your heart mesage. I was so very happy to win this as goodreads giveaway. I really enjoyed the narative and characters.
