Anna Sui is one of New York’s most beloved and accomplished fashion designers, known for creating contemporary original clothing inspired by spectacular amounts of research into vintage styles and cultural arcana. She is especially famous for her textile prints. Sui joined New York’s intensely creative cultural underground in the 1970s, forging important relationships in the worlds of fashion, photography, art, music, and design.
The World of Anna Sui looks at Sui’s eclectic career as a designer and artist, both through her clothing and studio. Through interviews with fashion journalist Tim Blanks, the book explores Sui’s lifelong engagement with fashion archetypes—the rocker, the schoolgirl, the punk, the goth, the bohemian—and reveals their inspiration and influence. Complete with detailed photographs of garments, sketches, moodboards, runway shots, and cultural ephemera, The World of Anna Sui is an inside look at this iconic New York designer with a worldwide cult following.
This book is mainly a photo book, of Anna Sui Fashion. I like this book it's very colorful, this book would make a great coffee table book for anyone into fashion. The downside is that the book doesn't have much on her Cosmetics, and Fragrances, and that's what I was hoping for, the book is called " The World of Anna Sui " so I was expecting more than there is. If you are a Anna Sui fan, then I recommend this book. I really like Anna Sui's style, I really like the Bohemian feel to what she does, and that has a lot to do with why she is one of my favorites in fashion. As the main reason why she is my all time favorite is, because of her wide range of perfumes, which personally I think are some of the best ever made, as I have all of her perfumes. I feel like Anna Sui is underrated. What I am hoping for next is a in depth biography book on her that would be nice, as well as a book just on her perfumes, she has over twenty perfumes since 1999. Who knows maybe I could write the book on her perfumes someday. End note: What I wanted was a book of Anna Sui more in a written form than another book just mainly in photos.
It's invigorating to read about people who are excited and passionate about what they do and create. Anna Sui was inspired by many but she herself is an inspiration. This is a great book to read if you feel like your life is in a slump and you need the inspiration to continue on. Regardless if you like Anna Sui's designs (which you should) or fashion at all this book is a great read for anyone. It really is motivating.
