did i skim the last 300 pages? yes. but did i pass my exams anyway? also yes. the book is fine as a study material, but has so many egregious typos throughout that it was frustrating to read. i was glad i got this book secondhand for free, because if i paid $100+ for this kind of editing, i'd have been more than a little ticked off. in general, i think book based are study materials are severely lacking, making this somehow one of the best textbook study materials out there, *i guess*
There is quite a bit of misleading or blatantly incorrect information. It doesn't really give an accurate view of what will be on the exams, so don't expect it to be a "complete" study guide, but works OK as a starting point for studying for the exams.
While this book provides a good overview of each of the topics of the ARE I felt that some of the chapters gave too much focus to topics that do not or hardly appear in exam questions. Making it hard to know which information to prioritize while studying
Apart from my feelings about the exams in general and that their actual content never bears much obvious relationship to any of the available study material, this edition could do with a thorough proofreading: typos, redundant sentences, one or two factual inaccuracies... I also had the distinct impression that the people writing some of the sections didn't understand the material themselves. They have a captive audience (there are only so many sources available unless we want to read all 50+ books that NCARB references in their guide - not exactly a practical option when you work full time as well, which most candidates do), but that shouldn't be an excuse to skimp on quality control. Especially when quality control is one of the topics covered in the book.
*If you are wondering why I have read it so many times despite the bad review, it is because there really aren't any worthwhile resources available for these exams and we unfortunately just have to make do.
