Alex, Sandy and panty-stealing pet hamster Echiboo have survived an entire semester of unspeakable tortures at the hands of five crazed yaoi fangirls. Now the whole gang is off to the anime convention Hatsu-Con where sparks fly as the Aoi House gang comes face-to-face with their bitter rivals: "They-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!" Nonstop craziness and fan service abound in Aoi House's most outrageous adventure yet--"The Great Con Caper!"
Includes the 1st year of Aoi House gag strips from Newtype USA.
Sooo, I liked the drawing, I think it’s cute, but I had a problem understanding the plot, it jumped from one thing to another, it seems liked it’s not cursive. I just finished it right now and still can’t remember one character name…not one! And there are so many, it’s confusing 🙈 more like a 2.5 ⭐️ it’s rounded up because I appreciate everyone who can draw nice 😉
Even though this says Book One, there must be something previously that introduced the characters. The storyline was about right when it came to conventions. There were lots of little side stories that made no sense, unless there had been some earlier books.
Aoi House is getting ready for the first anime con of the year. Unfortunately they have to deal with some rivals. Uri house, a copycat group focused on yuri manga are at the con too. Plus the hated UASOS team, a group of fans obsessed with Haruhi Suzumayu, is making a bid to steal victory from them. Can they all have fun at the con while dealing with growing feelings for each other?
It's a natural setting for them, and in this volume it really breaks away from the Love Hina influence by adding rivals and making some dramatic changes. There's no coyness about who likes who, and the idea of dueling harems adds a dimension missing to a lot of harem anime in general. Some of the decisions I don't agree with; Alex's romance seemed to come out of left field, for one. Even if it was shown in previous volumes.
A lot of the book is just pure fun though. The UASOS brigade steals the show in every scene they are in, and I really wanted to know more about them. The Uri house are an odd combo of rivals and confidants, and rise above being a plot device. There's also a lot of depth about Anne in this volume, and she makes a decision that's not a little surprising, if refreshing in its realism.
It's a fun volume on its own, and one where it steps beyond its roots. Plus, wouldn't you ever want to put an obvious Haruhi clone in her place?
This volume picks up the story where Aoi House left off and focuses solely on the anime convention Hatsucon. We finally get to meet the notorious Uri House, as well as another anime club called AUSOS Brigade. Since the story arc takes place at a con, the characters are constantly changing cosplay outfits. It’s really fun to guess who they’re cosplaying as, ‘cause half the time it isn’t explicated. This is probably my favourite volume of Aoi House.
I have a vague memory or reading the omnibus version of AOI House back in high school, and enjoying it. So when I saw this I couldn't help but pick it up.
And I must say that I was not disappointed in this. The story is silly in a fun kind of way, and I hope to pick up all the volumes one day. :D
