La Bottega Battibaleno #2

La Boussole des rêves

Rate this book

3.5*
I'm not sure what happened for ending. Between Finley got the accident and after he's back again into a (grown) boy, it seemed like some big chunks of the story, climax, important chunks, were robbed off the story, replaced by less important ones. Just like that. And some facts just didn't aligned properly, or just popped out when it was already too late, like lame explanation.
A lot of mysteries hadn't been explained yet, and I just realized that the Suitcase of Stars (the 1st book title) took its short glam here, in 2nd book, while in the 1st book there's no mention about it. Another glitch.
All in all, still a good telling. Fast moving, exciting, albeit some weird holes were getting bigger; made me slightly wonder is it worth to continue.

Though I wish it had a recap (since I'd forgotten some of what happened in the first book), I really enjoyed this story. The story was fun and fast paced, and I do look forward to reading the next book.

My boys love these books

Magical and fun but still the story of every day life. My boys enjoy the adventure of the story and character development through the books. We will keep reading these books!

E a verdade é que ainda nenhuma outra colecção me conquistou dessa forma.

Review will also appear on my blog Pages Full of Stars.

My rating: 3.5/6

I can happily say that Compass of Dreams is much better than its predecessor :) At the beginning I thought that it would be pretty similar but then the things definitely picked up.

The story wasn’t that chaotic anymore and had an actual main plot. It was well thought out and gripped my attention, and a few parts even managed to give me the creeps. I also really liked the little plot twist and I think it all fitted the story very well.

What surprised and irritated me a little was something I haven’t really seen before in middle grade books – a love triangle. I thought it was really unnecessary and the book could as well do without it. Also, there was a little character development for Finley but I would like to see more of it. Considering the fact that children reading it may follow his example, I don’t think that it’s good to see him not caring for the fact that he would have to repeat a year at school for skipping classes or being generally negative towards learning. It didn’t affect me as a reader but I know that it may affect younger readers.

As previously, the cover and book artwork was amazing and I really enjoyed exploring all the illustrations. If I have a chance I may pick up the next installment, to see where the author went with the series and if it improved more.

Another installment in this lovely series. I like how he keeps it fresh, magical, and still, grounded in reality. Admittedly, my favorite part of the books is the addition of the item descriptions in the store, often what we just read about in action, also, the inclusion of the magical writing. Now, to patiently wait for the next book in the series to be translated and arrive at the library!

Finley has another adventure with the Lily family. This time a Green man is on the loose. Sheep are disappearing and nets are turning up broken. So the villagers are trying to figure out what is going on. Finley starts working on the issue because it seems like magic is involved to him.
Definitely need the first book to help in getting the full understanding of what is going on.

Good read. A bit disappointed the action took place without us seeing it. Very anti-climatic.
