Sarah’s committed to her stellar modelling career in New York, but there’s an obligation she needs to fulfil. Harold was a Grandpa to her when she needed him most. Now all Harold wants is one last Christmas in his beloved Waratah Bay Homestead. Sarah’s not that so hot on baking and Christmas seems a bit… challenging… but she’s prepared to fly half way round the world to give it a try.
The only problem is, Harold no longer owns Waratah Bay Homestead. Farming tycoon Max Ramsey owns it now and he doesn’t like company, he doesn’t like Christmas and most of all, he doesn’t like Sarah.
When the two clash, enough sparks ensue to light a Christmas tree. How many enemies does it take to cook one Christmas turkey?
I'm a writer. I'm boring. Day after day I sit behind a word processor making up people in my head. Why do I do it? I love it. My husband, Dave, gets up in the morning, puts on a suit and heads out into the ice and cold of Ballarat's winter. (Sadly I live in one of the tiny parts of Australia that qualifies as cold.) I make myself another cup of coffee, head up to my study, choose what music I want and sit and daydream. And I get paid for doing it. Hooray!
My first attempt at writing romance, 'Dare To Love Again', a Medical Romance, was published by Harlequin Mills and Boon in 1990. It still stands today as a monument to my family's ability to survive on cheese sandwiches and spaghetti.
Since then I've written over 80 Romances for Harlequin Mills and Boon, with more on the drawing board. (I used a pseudonym - Trisha David - for the first few Romances but suffered with a split personality and have since reverted to being Marion Lennox all the time.) In between romances, I've co-authored a non-fiction history, (I love local history) done the odd (very odd) spot of housework and done a heap of travelling - research :-)
I come from a farming community. You can probably tell this from my books. There's not a skyscraper in sight. I'm very much a pets person. Chloe and Harry were my constant canine companions for many years as I wrote, demanding walks and air freshener at frequent intervals. Sadly I lost them, and for a while I vowed not to get another. My heart was broken and my study smelled so clean! But.. The cat and I missed them so badly we weakened and bought Mitzi. Mitzi's a black and silver mini-schnauzer who makes me and the cat laugh. Expect to find her in future stories.
If you're interested in formalities, I hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a teaching diploma. I have a couple of kids and a huge extended family who look on me with affectionate tolerance. Marion? The crazy one who talks to people in her head... I've had nine nominations for the Rita, winning twice, and fourteen for the Australian Book of the Year. After years of thinking of my writing as a hobby I guess I finally now qualify as a `real' writer.
Thank your for taking the trouble to check out my web page. Now try my books. We might even end up having fun together. And write to me. I show my family - `See? Real people do like the things that go in in my head.'
Sarah flies from New York to Australia to spend one last Christmas with Harold who she thinks of as Grandpa she is taking him from the hospital home to his Waratch Bay homestead. Sarah and Harold have been writing and phoning each other weekly for many years and as far as Sarah is concerned Harold is her only family.
Max is the owner of Waratch Bay as Harold sold him the house and most of the land years ago as Harold needed the money to support his money grabbing ex wife and three step daughters who he has not seen or heard from in years. Max is a scrooge but not with his money with his heart he loves Waratch Bay and the isolation the only company he likes is his animals and Harold.
When Max goes to visit Harold in the hospital and see's Sarah who he has mistaken for one of Harold's step daughter he is so angry and when he hears Sarah wants to take him home for Christmas he does not hide his dislike for Sarah and Sarah does not correct him.
Can Sarah and Max survive a few days together and can they make this the best Christmas for Harold expect a few surprises, laughs and a few tears along the way, really enjoyed this story but I would of loved an epilogue.

You can pretty much guarantee that at about this time every year, you will start too see books with a Christmas feel start popping up on my Goodreads reading list. It is a big thing for me each year, as I just love settling down with a heartwarming story that helps ease me into the Season, with a little love and a whole lot of Christmas Magic.
One magic kiss.
Christmas in Waratah Bay, is my first seasonal read for 2014, and it was without doubt the absolute perfect way to kick off this years Christmas reading. I laughed, cried and had all sorts of 'feels' while reading this book. Max is your typical Scrooge for the modern day except instead of being tight with his money, he is tight with his feelings, it was great too see him opening his heart and his home to Sarah, Harold and his family for the Christmas holiday.
Families... who'd have anything to do with them.
I loved that as the story progressed you learned more of his past as well as Sarah's, and why initial expectations and assumptions you have of someone are not always what they may seem to be.
"For now, let's just live it. let's just do Christmas like it ought to be, and not think past it."
This novella ticks all the boxes that I have when it comes to my Christmas reading requirements, on to the next novella in the series!

I'll put it right out there, I adored Christmas at Waratah Bay. Packed with emotion, this festive novella made me laugh, cry and everything in between.
Max and Sarah were wonderful characters and with a Scrooge feeling to their story it was a heartwarming and heart wrenching read. Max is a Scrooge of the heart, he keeps his feelings locked away and Christmas is just another day in his year, but when Sarah arrives to spend a last Christmas with her 'Grandpa' Harold, her sweet nature and sheer determination stirs something deep within him and he finds himself offering to host the festivities at his ranch.
Of the four in the Christmas Around the World series, I must confess that this was the one that touched me the greatest, and whilst I would've liked a little epilogue to see how Max and Sarah had got on, it doesn't detract from the fact that Marion Lennox has brought us a wonderful festive romantic read.

Just like in Christmas with the Laird, the I love you's came way too quickly here but surprisingly I ended up enjoying this one quite a bit. Between the dogs, food, Sarah's contagious enthusiasm and Max's adorable grumpy act, Christmas at Waratah Bay won be over within a few short chapters.
Marion Lennox's writing was full of heart and I loved her story of two opposites finding common ground and romance set against coastal Australia. I do wish there had been an epilogue so that the ending would've been more satisfying but I can't complain. OH, and I have to mention the swimming lesson scene because it was magical and the main reason behind the final rating.
Loved Sarah and Max -- they made an awesome pair. Sarah was so full of life and although Max came across as cynical and a Scrooge when it came to Christmas, he was actually a large-hearted and a very caring man. His past experiences with his mother --who dumped the responsibility of the thirteen step-siblings she happily produced, on to him-- made him cling to peace and solitude. Moreover, he mistook Sarah to be one Harold's greedy stepdaughters and Sarah chose not to correct him fearing he wouldn't let her take Harold home and give him the perfect last Christmas before he left the world. Since Max also loved the old man as much, he opened his home for him, And, not only him, but for Sarah and his heavily pregnant step-sister, Katie, and her big family. He also fell in with Sarah's enthusiasm for Christmas which brought on many tender scenes between them. Then there was the turkey dunking scene which was really funny. At least Harold got his perfect Christmas with the two people he loved the most and hoped would be together forever-Sarah and Max. The close
Loved all the characters in the book. I only wished the book was a bit longer and the 'I love you' didn't have to be rushed. This is why I hesitate to read a novella. But, I'm glad I read this for the book made me laugh as well as moved me to tears. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Christmas Down Under was cute and filled with heart and Christmas spirit. Sarah has come to Australia with one goal...give her friend Harold one last Christmas before he passes. But to make that happen she's going to have to win over the growly farmer who lives next door.
I loved how Sarah threw herself into making Christmas for everyone. She doesn't get rattled. She's sweet and earnest. And Max. He tries so hard to not care and to keep himself at a distance from others but the man has a heart of gold. It was heartwarming watching them create Christmas for their friend and find some personal healing along the way as the chaos of the season hit.
I did have a lot of issues with the editing. Whew. It was BAD! Forgetting how to spell characters names, sentences repeating, words out of order or misspelled. It was atrocious.
Overall, though, it was a nice Christmas romance and very sweet.
Beauty permeates the pages of this novel. Lennox’s descriptions present this world in a vivid manner while her emotional and heartfelt story keep readers captivated. This was a fantastic story that not only held my interest, but my emotions as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent trip across the world for Christmas.
The clash of worlds combined with the assumptions and misconceptions between the two main characters is both comical and heart wrenching. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. Both of the main characters had a strength to them that was fascinating. At the same time they were such different individuals that you couldn’t help but understand the predicament that they found themselves in. Finding themselves surrounded by this intriguing supporting cast was just the icing on the cake.
This is a fantastic, quick, easy novella that really brings out the spirit of Christmas. Lennox’s unique tale will keep you captivated throughout.

This was a cute little love story that had you wondering what was going to happen next from beginning to end. Sarah was a young woman just trying to give an old man his dying wish and Max was a young man bent on giving that old man his wish cause he had been such a nice man to him. By teaching him how to farm. As the story progressed Max’s sister shows up on his doorstep and surprises him in ways he did not want. But as always you can’t deny family a place to stay especially when it’s your pregnant baby sister and her family. Sarah’s contribution to the whole situation doesn’t help especially since Max thinks badly of her. He assumes she’s someone else and learns otherwise but not until he gets to know her better and falls in love with her. Sarah is falling in love with Max as well but she has a life and career to get back to in the states. Eventually everything is put out in the open and life will never be the same.
The extra story at the end of this one was just as cute. A Christmas in Marietta, Montana is a love renewed story in a way. Noah is a vet doing time in a small time so that his loans for veterinary school can get payed off faster. Caitlin is a young school teacher who met Noah when she was attending MSU. They dated for awhile but Noah broke her heart when he called it off right before he graduated. Over an evening attending a small kitten that Caitlin found they renew an interest in each other. Things seem to roll pretty fast in such a small timeframe but life seems to be giving them a second chance to get it right this time.

Max Ramsey has been taking care of his neighbor Harold, the last couple of months, since the old man is dying. Now he's put him in the hospital, but one of Harold's money-grabbing, ungrateful step-daughters is back and wants to supposedly give the old man one unforgettable Christmas...Not if Max can help it.
He can't really, since the woman is Harold's legal family and she's slowly getting under Max's skin as well.
But Sarah Carlton isn't one of Harold's step-daughters. She's not even his family no matter how much she might wish otherwise. But Harold is the closest she's come to having a grandfather, and she's finally earned enough money to come for a visit, which turns out to be their last...And she's determined to give Harold—and Max—a wonderful family Christmas.
This story started off strong. Yes, there was the trope of the misunderstanding, no one bothers to correct, but it worked, and it served as "incentive" for the reader to get to know the main protagonists as they go to know one another.
The plot tugged at an occasional heartstring, the characters were rather well-developed and likeable, the romance came through as quite plausible, despite the speed at which it happened...The problem was the second half of the story which dragged on for a bit too long both in pace and the not-corrected misunderstanding. It could've been a couple of pages shorter.
This is a love story and although not my favorite genre, I did like the characters and their back stories contributed a lot to the book. In addition to the growing love between the two lead characters, there is also the love they both have for Harold, an old man in his last days, and their shared desire to make his last Christmas on earth the very best.
There was some mild language in it but when it got about halfway they are kissing on the floor in the bathroom (waiting for a frozen turkey to defrost) and they get to heavy kissing and he is thinking about taking her into his bedroom if there wasn't so may guests in the house...didn't feel like continuing, it wasn't amazing up to that point...not to mention it needs some major editing.
This was really good. Whilst a little predictable ( but let’s face it, who wants a surprise twist in a Christmas love story?) it was well written, with a well thought out plot and the right amount of Christmas sentimentality. It wasn’t too silly and made me smile on a number of occasions. A lovely Christmas Eve read.
This is the first of a series of standalone stories with the common theme of Christmas. This one is about Sarah, Max and Harold, they spend Christmas together and as it unfolds they all encounter some astonishing happenings. Well written and bought tears to my eyes at times.
This story was pretty predictable. It was a fast read, which is good. Wasn't too thrilled with the super short stories at the end, I thought they were just pieces of another book, but they were super short stories.
Just loved this novel about redemption at Christmas. Both Max and Sarah had had unhappy childhoods. Once meeting up though it took them a while to realise that they were meant to be together.
Great Christmas story, it was a little too complicated for Christmas cheer but it was well developed. I enjoyed this book and I'm looking toward to more books by this author.

Christmas at Waratah Bay by Marion Lennox is the first book in the multi-author series Christmas Around the World. The story is set in Waratah Bay, a picturesque town located in Victoria, Australia and is about two people who have lived in solitude for far too long and discover the true meaning of family and how Christmas truly is a time for giving and receiving, especially gifts which are intangible but are most precious.
Sarah Carlton is a successful model from New York who returns to Waratah Bay in order to visit Harold, the man she considers more of a father than her biological one and who only has a few days left. At the hospital where Harold is confined, she meets Max Ramsay, Harold's neighbor and the one he sold his homestead to. Max's negative reaction towards Sarah makes her believe that he's judged her based on his own preconceptions, especially since Harold has lived alone for far too long. While she's apologetic for not having come sooner, Sarah stresses that what's important is she gives Harold what she feels will make him happiest--a Christmas at home.
Max isn't thrilled at meeting Sarah but he does acknowledge that she's putting in more effort in making Harold's last Christmas a truly special one than he expected. Max offers up Waratah Bay Homestead, something that surprises both him and Sarah, especially since Max prefers being alone. From there, Max's self-imposed solitary confinement is completely tossed aside as the arrival of one of his sisters and her family plus the inclusion of two of Harold's friends and the world's ugliest puppy thrust his once quiet world into chaos. Noticeably, Max finds himself changing his mind about Sarah and about other things he's held true for years.
This was a sweet Christmas romance and one that anyone can quickly get through in one sitting. The love story itself was nicely played out and it actually didn't feel as if it only took three days, possibly because a lot was packed into those three days. The twist is an interesting one and one that I had not guessed, so definite props for that. An added bonus were the dogs because I rarely say "no" to anything dog-related. ^.^ There were a few editing issues but hopefully they were fixed before the book was officially released. Taking everything into consideration, I'm giving Christmas at Waratah Bay four out of five stars. ♥

Christmas Around the World series Book 1: Christmas at Waratah Bay by Marion Lennox Book 2: Christmas with the Laird by Scarlet Wilson Book 3: Christmas in Venice by Joanne Walsh Book 4: A Yorkshire Christmas by Kate Hewitt
Summary: Sarah Carlton, a successful model, has come to Waratah Bay from New York to visit Harold Leishman who is in the hospital. She considers him her grandfather and wishes that he spends what could possibly be his last Christmas at his home.
Farming tycoon Max Ramsey bought Harold’s home and has been a friend to him ever since. He mistakes Sarah for one of Harold’s adopted daughters, who he knows are greedy just like their mother. Sarah does not correct him and carries on with her plan on taking Harold home.
Max worries about Harold’s health and invites them to celebrate Christmas at his house (Harold’s house that he bought). However, he still hopes to have a quiet and peaceful Christmas.
Sarah goes all out with the decorations and food. She also welcomes Max’s sister and her family who land there because of an unforeseen situation.
This book by Marion Lennox is about how Sarah and Max, who are lonely people with past secrets, fall in love with each other amidst an unexpectedly hectic Christmas.
My thoughts: This is a sweet, emotional holiday story, which emphasizes the importance of family and friends rather than wealth and luxury.
Although Sarah is shown as a beautiful and strong woman who makes things happen, her cooking skills or the lack of them makes her more believable. Although Max seems grumpy and anti-social, he is a true friend to Harold and a great brother to his siblings.
I also liked Max's sister and her family almost as much as I liked Max, Sarah and Harold.
Marion’s description of the Christmas holidays with all the craziness of unexpected guests, dogs, and a stubbornly frozen turkey is wonderful.
Although this is the first book in the 'Christmas Around the World' series, it has a standalone story.

*I received an e-ARC of Christmas at Waratah Bay from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Read on for my thoughts on Christmas at Waratah Bay. No true spoilers, promise.
There is a reason why I adore Christmas stories. They are simply the fastest way to a feel good state of mind that I know of – and can afford. My collection of Christmas novels that I will read over and over at next Christmas or whenever I need a “feel good” book now fills three shelves of a bookcase. Yes, I’m obsessed.
In Christmas at Wartah Bay we have all the parts of a fairy-tale spread out before us. Beautiful, kind, sweet totally mis-identified Sarah. Gruff, Scrooge-like although kind at heart, handsome Max. A charming fairy godfather, twinkling eyes included in Harold. Who are we missing? Ah, of course – the evil, money grabbing ex-wife and her equally evil female offspring. Check.
Stir in circumstances not being what they appear. Massive doses of stubbornness. Toss in some Christmas magic – and we have a beautiful holiday love story.
This short novel was so touchingly done. Yes, we have to move quickly because of time – but I didn’t feel the story was too rushed. What we have are two people who love Harold and would do anything in their power to make him happy. Really that’s what is at the heart of this one. Through misunderstandings, gruffness and suspicions soon truth will be told, hearts will be melted and one of the best Christmas gifts of all will find its way into more than one heart. And isn’t that why we are addicted to Christmas stories? The happily ever after. Guaranteed.
I loved this short novella, I was honored to get to know these good people and I thank the author for introducing me to such a wonderful, heartwarming story – no matter what time of year.
Would I recommend it? Of course, faster than a snowflake can melt.
I'm getting in the Christmas mood! I picked this one up for free from BookBub. It was a sweet and touching story that pulled on many different emotions. Sarah is a wonderful character. She's full of love for Harold, light and goodness for everyone else. She's a hard worker and not afraid to take on things she has no clue about--turkey and Christmas dinner being a good example. I enjoyed the fact that she didn't feel the need to correct Max's wrong idea about her in the beginning. She wasn't there for Max, didn't care what he thought of her, all that mattered was Harold and giving him one last Christmas.
Even when Sarah started liking Max, Harold was her focus. She simply found room in her heart to include Max and his family in her goal to provide a Christmas to remember.
Max's change of heart happened slowly as well. At least as slow as possible for a few days time in the book. I liked this. He didn't immediately fall in love and change who he'd been for years and years. He struggled with letting people in, even though he wanted to let Sarah in. It took Sarah's strongly independent spirit to finally break through his walls. She was strong enough on her own. She didn't need him to fix everything for him. In the end though, they both realize that everything could be wonderfully better and more fulfilling if they were together.
I enjoyed being in a different setting for Christmas--no snow and a day at the beach. It was a refreshing change. This read was also clean. I give Christmas Down Under a 4.
1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
Harold is seriously ill in hospital and its nearly Christmas. His friend, neighbour and the person who bought most of his land is Max Ramsey - he also found Harold collapsed and got him into hospital. No one from Harold’s family has visited him for years but when Max goes to visit him he finds Sarah there - and she’s organising to take the seriously ill Harold home for Christmas!
Max wrongly assumes that Sarah is one of Harold’s money grabbing, worthless adopted daughters and takes an instant dislike to her. Sarah isn’t going to tell him the truth - that would stop the hospital letting her take Harold home for Christmas and, as he knows he is dying, that’s really where he wants to go.
Max is worried about Harold and offers to have him and Sarah stay in his house - which is Harold’s old home. He had been hoping to have Christmas on his own but can cope - he hopes - with this pair and it will mean he can still keep an eye on Harold. Fate, however, has other plans and the story of everything that happens to bring these two together despite their very different but equally dramatic childhoods makes this a heart warming story for the Christmas season and beyond.
A lovely story with great characters behaving how you’d expect them to. It is also set in a beautiful setting and was still a great read even though Christmas was more than a month ago!
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read a sample of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly thank you to Tule Publishing for approving me for a copy of this title via NetGalley. This is the first book in the Christmas Around The World series by 4 different Tule Publishing authors. Although it’s first, it’s the third book in the series that I’ve read so I would say don’t worry if you read them out of order!
The story is all about farmer Max and model Sarah and their Waratah Bay Christmas.
When the series title suggests that the series is Christmas around the world it doesn’t lie! Book one kicks off in Australia in Waratah Bay. I find it really hard to imagine what Christmas in a country like Australia would be like when the weather is completely opposite to Scotland’s so I loved the trip my imagination took in this short read!
Sarah and Max find themselves together in unlikely circumstances and the pull together to bring their old friend home for what they think will be his last Christmas. This storyline is quite heart wrenching and the emotions and feelings of the character seem real. As it’s a short story there is a lot happening in a short period of time and there definitely is some Christmas magic at work! The only thing for me was the relationship between the two main characters progressed at the speed of light and that didn’t feel real but on the whole the characters were well developed and came with backstory that was well detailed and easy to imagine.
