My name is Ash, and I am an Elemental.

As an Ender, it is my place to protect the royal family at all costs. Despite being the best Ender our world has ever beheld, I have failed time and again as the personal sacrifices continue to mount.

Lark has been banished to the desert by her father who is blind to the manipulation he has again fallen prey to. To bring about justice, I must seek out and destroy the one who intentionally wields her powers to bring pain to my people.

Cassava’s death will finally free us from the dark cloud her reign of terror has surrounded us in. This is what I believe to be true and I will seek her out with only one intended outcome.

The reality, however, is much more complicated than my beliefs.

When lies turn to truths, and enemies to allies, can I still find my way back to who I once was? Uncertainty makes me hesitant, but I can not give up.

For justice. For Lark.

No matter the sacrifice.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.

I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)

Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.

I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)

As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.

Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.

Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.

ASH is a backstory / fill-in-the-blanks installment, so even though it’s book 6, timeline-wise the events take place in-between WINDBURN and ROOTBOUND, but you kinda need to read the latter first in order to understand this volume’s plot. I enjoyed what Shannon Mayer put down however, admittedly the ELEMENTAL series is starting to get a tad bit complicated because the titles *should* be experienced chronologically, and yet maybe not.

This is Ash’s version of what came after Lark’s banishment. It’s a POV that definitely needed to be told because the golden eagle on the cover made multiple appearances in #5, and some clarification was required to explain how this came about. That being said, all of the other novels were from the heroine’s perspective, so even though ASH is full length, it should have been classified as #4.5 instead of #6 to avoid confusion IMO.

Timing issues aside, this was a great book! It built on the relationship between the protagonist and Peta, called Talan’s character even further into question (Is he good? Bad? I DON’T KNOW!!), and brought in a new secondary in the form of Norm, the yeti. The author has rotated through a smorgasbord of supernaturals in her diverse Urban Fantasy series’, but this guy was fresh, fun, and I absolutely loved his obsession with pranks!

Cassava is still going strong as the lead badass of the ELEMENTAL world, and Raven is hot on her tail. Talan’s tangled allegiances make these three a venerable trifecta of shit disturbers that leave me incessantly speculating as to who is really behind it all. And then of course, Mayer concludes the head trip with a hook that could flip the whole thing on its butt, and possibly impacts the pre-spin-off story line too…

ASH will chew you up, spit you out, and leaving you salivating for SPIRIT SOWN!

This novella is told from Ash's POV and spans the time between "Windburn" and "Rootbound" filling in the missing pieces of Ash's experiences.... although this story answered some pressing questions, it also caused many others to rise; this story continues to twist and turn making me question the characters' motives and intentions; who are the allies and who are the enemies?....How will this magical adventure conclude?... looking forward to reading "Destroyer" and finally having the answers revealed...4 Stars:)

Ash has been one of my favorite characters for a while now so when I found out he was getting his own book to say I was excited is an understatement! We find out just what happens to him And boy does Ash go on an adventure. I especially like the introduction of the Yeti. The set up for the next book is perfect and I for one cannot wait. There are wheels in motion and motivations behind deceptions are starting to be hinted it. Bravo for another amazing read!

Rylee Adamson was a fantastic series and so I was hoping this would be good too. Larkspur is a great character that you are behind 100%. It is an intriguing, suspenseful, and mysterious thriller filled with tension. The story includes alliances, threats, betrayal, riddles, and plots, all infused with a touch of humour to keep the pages turning. Shannon weaves a tangled web that leaves you in need of more.

Lark has been banished, and Ash is unable to go to her. Yet Ash has to find a way to help Larkspur, whatever it takes. The reality may be more than he can bare, though.

The book Ash is an alternative point of view from Ash (obviously) during the time between books four and five of the series. The author herself says to read this after Rootbound though, to save yourself the spoilers. It takes place during the years without Larkspur, and what Ash tries to do to help her. What happens to him during those years.

I'm not actually certain why this is labelled as the sixth book in the series. It is completely unnecessary to read. It doesn't add anything new that we aren't already going to learn throughout the course of the series. It wasn't even especially entertaining. It kind of felt like it jumped around between things I didn't even really care about before getting to the point.

In fact, it felt like a game more than anything. A game with a really shitty lose scenario. There is a lot of talk about "pranking" people in order to get what Ash wants done, done. Then there is the fact that nothing really seemed worth what he was doing. He had no effect over his own story. It was all out of his own hands, except the decision to do something in the first place. He could have waited it out, instead he decided to try and do something and paid for it.

I'm just really not certain why I should care about anything that is happening. Once again, everything changes because nothing refuses to stay static. Whims are whimed. It feels like the entire purpose of Ash was to reveal that, once again, a character we think we have figured out isn't as they seem. Which is something we're just going to learn in the last book in the series anyway. Luckily this wasn't very long.

One more book to go!

This book is the only one in the series that is from a different POV. In this book it follows Ash's -from his POV- and what happens to him during the period of time between Windburn and Rootbound.

For a relatively short book there was so much that happened and was revealed in this book. I really enjoyed Ash POV and being able to find out what happened to him in the years where Lark was banished and imprisoned. The amount of double crossing, back stabbing etc in this series and particularly in this book is a head spin. I absolutely loved the Yeti in the book he brought some much needed comical relief in a rather tense and action-packed book. With the twists that were revealed in this book it also brought new revelations of what occurred in Rootbound. I am throughly looking forward to the last book in this series and seeing just who in the end is on which side.

**Be warned that there is a scene where what I would consider a type of rape occurs. It isn't really graphic but emotional.

What to expect:
- Lies, manipulations, backstabbing
- Elemental Magic
- Creature side kicks
- Artefacts of Power
- Prophecy
- Ancient powerful entities

I love this series and we've all wanted more Ash. Honestly though, this one didn't thrill me As Much as the others in the series. I don't know if I just missed them together or what but it was probably the ending. I felt it was a little rushed and not as detailed as I'm used to with Mayer. I'm not usually left with tons of questions in an ending but I feel like the time after "the change" could've been more detailed. I guess it probably doesn't matter too much in the long run but I can't help but be curious. I can't wait for thus series to continue, so engaged in this world!

Not what I was expecting!
Once again this is a novella that is 100% needed to be read/listened to to be able to understand the story.
It’s about ash and what happens to him between parks banishment and when she’s in the tomb.

How he gets turned into an eagle and why.
Who is the actual bad guy? I don’t know anymore.
Guess we will find out in the destroyer.

I might listen to Rylee before I finish this series.

This is a stop gap for the series and to be honest. I wasn't blown away.

I dislike novellas. They're always a little pointless to me. I did find it somewhat confusing or/and enlightening to see the other things going on that lark is not away of.

I cannot help but have more than a little heartbreak for the characters in this series. They suffer so much but never succumb. Reading this book makes me want to see a happy ending even more. It is a really good story told very well.

I was definitely left wondering what all happened to Ash between WINDBURN and ROOTBOUND, so ASH was a welcomed addition to my review schedule. Fans of the Elemental Series might be tempted to read ASH before ROOTBOUND, but you should read the series in order of book #, so make sure to read ASH after ROOTBOUND. I know it's a bit confusing, but there are things that happen in ASH that need the explanations you get from book five.

ASH answered a lot of questions for me, but also added some new ones to the list. She also throws some major curve balls when it comes to Cassava—like you will totally question everything you have thought about her curve balls. I also want to say that I loved the new character addition of Norm in ASH. I see big things coming from him in future books. Rylee would totally love him if she ever met him!

I am glad I got a view of events from Ash's POV and I look forward to seeing him and Lark together again. I'm ready for SPIRIT SOWN.

I was provided a copy of Ash in exchange for an honest review.  Ash is a part of the elemental world and is a novel from Ash’s POV.  This absolutely CANNOT be read as a standalone novel.  I have read the entire series. I will admit, I felt like I needed to go back and refresh my knowledge. Since Ash doesn’t take place in the current time line but picks up in the past and then brings us to the present. We get to see what he was doing while he and Lark had been separated.  Shannon has a brilliant and devious mind.  Just when you think you know who the good/bad guys are, there are twists and turns. It may not be, what it appears to be.

I loved that we got to see Ash’s feelings for Lark.  He truly loves her and wants nothing more than to protect and help her.  His loyalty and love shines through. It is one of those reasons why Lark fell in love with him.

I can’t wait to see where the story picks up next and how Shannon is going to tie all of these pieces together....Sara

Convoluted

This one was short. I'm not really thrilled with how convoluted things are getting. So some people can apparently see far into the future and are scheming, yet they can't see the real enemies there? We get surprised again and again when the story turns back on itself and completely changed course and we are supposed to believe that these cruel, evil murderers actually have good intentions? In like being surprised in a story, but this series has so much good turning out to be evil and evil turning out to be good, despite all the evil deeds done. Can a snow leopard really change its spots like all these people are suddenly doing? It's seems too contrived to me. If any author could save it and make me buy it, it's this one, but she would have to do some serious selling, including making me understand how all the evils in the last were necessary.

I was initially hesitant to read this book. My first thoughts were that we already knew what had happened to Ash and why did we need to knew how it happened.
I started reading and was once again pulled in to the magically world of Larkspur and company. I really enjoyed learning about the relationship between Ash and Peta. My view of one the characters keeps changing. I don’t know if Talan will come good or if he is the puppet master of all of the evil that Lark has endured.
As always, I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Audiobook review: This book has left me with a mix of emotions, sad and anger. Sad for Peta, Ash, and Lark. Angry at Talon. Shocked by Casava and Raven. Totally confused by how the storyline had played out. But in the end, I’m just angry.

Pure fantasy at its finest. I would say this is less urban fantasy though than the Rylee Adamson series. Even though it's set in the same world, the Elementals keep to themselves making this a lot more removed from the "normal" world. I think for some readers it will be hard to move between the series - for me personally, I'm a massive "classic" fantasy fan before all else so reading this was like coming home and gave me the same warm fuzzy feelings.

The series isn't really anything new in the genre, the same old fantasy tropes (The Chosen One, quest through different lands, evil foe who has spread through the land and must be defeated, etc) appear throughout - but Mayer hits all the right notes with her portrayal.

Wow. Just wow. I don't even know what the hell just happened. Ash is Ash's point of view of the events between Lark getting banished at the end of Windburn right up til Lark confronts Raven near the end of Rootbound (chapter 19 or so). And it's one hell of a story.

I loved getting to see more of Ash. I loved the relationship between him and Peta. I adored Norm (the big Yeti with head trauma). On the other hand I was completely blind-sighted by revelation after revelation after revelation. I have no idea wtf is going on. Too many plot lines all tangled up. Heroes, villains - motives, reasons - mind. blown. I can't wait to get started on Destroyer. I'm dying to know what happens next.

I want to be perfectly clear with this review. I absolutely adore the writer and the stories that she writes. Her first four in this series were straight up homeruns. Very good, however the story became fragmented The author left out giant chunks of storylines making it very hard for me to keep up with what was going on I have already started book 7 and I still have so many questions which can be answered if you read all her spinoff series of books. Fine and dandy but I thought after stumbling on book 5 perhaps she would fill in the blanks more thoroughly because the ending of the series hinges on all of those blanks… So I'm still confused and I'm halfway through book 7 this series will be over with book 7. Personally I get four stars for all fantastic books 5 stars for books I think should be made into a movie or a series on lifetime or FX. I could not give this book four ✨ stars although I wanted to. I have more questions after reading books 6 than ever and still a ton of questions that I don't feel will be answered by the end of book 7 because the author took 25 or 30 years out of the timeline and then just put random throwbacks that I didn't even know what she was talking about. I find myself impatient to finish this series and I'm very disappointed. It seems to me like two or three books were left out and maybe put in another Series somehow as a spin off...I wish you just would've numbered them properly and put the books from the other series and ordered with these books and let us read 11 books instead of seven even if they are from the other series.

Pain, Heart Ache, Desperation Then A Failure Due To Meddling!!😔💔🙏😭😲
Such Plots Have Been Woven, Poor Ash!💔😭
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Ash: The Elemental Series #6

Ash tries to right the wrong of Lark's banishment, first with words then deed! Raven steps in & thwarts him using spirit to bend minds against him. Griffin managed to aid him in the dungeon so he doesn't lose his mind then Peta arrives just in time to save him physically!🙏 They escape the Rim to search out & end Cassava, he's convinced she survived.😳 An avalanche causes chaos & Peta is captured!😱😢

With his new Yeti friend, Norm, he sets out to locate them. He knows Lark wouldn't survive without Peta once her banishment is over. On arrival in Ireland he's spoken to, much like Lark was. He's confused by it as the voices seem to claim to be the entire Earth. 🌎 But it isn't Mother Goddess talking.😒 In Romania he butts heads with Raven again but he doesn't use spirit on him?! They separate & go back to the Himalayas to where Raven swore his Mother & Peta were. Things are revealed that are but churning!!🙈😭 Now Ash is lost.💔💥

A sometimes frustrating but exhilarating read!!😍

Interesting Addition to the Elementals Series

I have mixed feelings about this addition to the series. I enjoyed reading from Ash’s perspective, and absolutely loved Norm’s character. I feel like it complicated the big picture though, but after finishing it, I have realized I think that was Shannon’s intention all along. She wants you to second-guess what’s real, what’s imaginary, as well as who’s “good” and who’s “bad”; although no one in Shannon’s worlds are inherently always good OR bad. Everything is in shades of grey which complicates things. Ash suddenly has new abilities and power that he never had before, making you wonder where or who it’s come from.

Like many of her series, this one is complicated and you must pay attention to the little details to truly understand how and why the journey unfolds. I applaud her for never taking the easy road, and letting the characters take on their own personalities and dimensions that other authors shy away from. It might not appeal to everyone, but I can understand why she’s telling this story the way she is. Though there are gut-wrenching periods, I think we’ll make it out ok in the end.

Ash

Even though I like the series it feels so unnecessarily drawn out. I’m getting frustrated with redundant sentences overly used. I read two other books while reading Ash because I needed a distraction from my frustrations. By the end I was finally to the point that I could read at my normal fast pace. I enjoyed having Ashes perspective and Norm’s humor. All the back and forth between Raven, Talen and Cassava is driving me crazy, now we have the ancients that have been sleeping for centuries come to play with Mother Goddess. Along with the infighting between the four elemental families. This also coincides with Rylee Adamson’s storyline, for which I enjoyed very much. I couldn’t stop reading or get enough.

No book or author information at Shannon's web page

I found the book "Ash" to be an unfinished ending to the elemental series of books. I love the series and am very caught up in it, but with no guidance from the author as to which books are related to her other book series and no suggested reading order, i find myself disappointed. On top of that, the author directs Their reader the to a link that is the author's name For additional book information and all You are directed to is An unfinished blog and non existent Web page. I would expect more from Such a Gifted author.

Brilliant

What can I say this series just keeps getting better as a reader you can't believe that each book can be bettered and then comes the next one and it is even more intriguing than the last. Ash is a wonderful character and you can't help but love him and the same with Peta and as they come together more in this book they endear themselves even more. The plot thickens more and more with each book and we have to ask where does Talon fit in this is he good or bad is he working to save the world or is he trying to take all power for himself can't wait to find out. Another brilliant read thank you Shannon Mayer.

I have really enjoyed this series although it’s not my favorite of this author. I do give out a lot of 4 stars because I rarely give 5 stars. This series is worth the read. Shannon Mayer builds an intriguing world with lots of characters. Ash is looking to kill Cassava but there are so many forces against him. This series has a major complex plot with lots of characters not what they seem. In a way it’s almost too twisted. Talon and Raven show up to hinder Ash. If you read the books in the order like suggested, you know how he was stopped. And you know the last book better tie up so so many things! I’ve already started it. Talon is an ass 🤣.

Ash's book shed some light on what happen to him in the years that Peta and Larkspur were unable to find him.

His journey highlighted the suffering he endured. I can't wait to see what the end is about as the elemental world endured so much at who's hands we are not sure as well as their agenda is still uncertain even now.

I hope Bella and Flint survives the mother Goddess imposter that ruined and continues to ruin so many of the elementals lives causing many to die and supernatural species to go extinct.

Audiobook review: I have liked Ash from the first moment he was introduced in the Elemental series. Like many in love he reacted when he should have thought things out a little more. His lack of foresight leads him on an unintended adventure filled with lies, half truths, and royal machinations. The story is fabulous. The new character Norm was a a great humorous addition. The narrator did a nice job, but I wish she would have stuck with Ms. Fortgang...Ash just doesn’t sound like Ash in the previous stories.

!

Ash is a great story but then all of Shannon Myers books are great especially they ones that have to do with the Riley Adams series and this is part of that series! There is only one draw back to her books that is a huge problem and has caused a little funhearted conflict in my house and that is I can't put them down once I start reading them they have to be in my hand unless there is a darn good reason they aren't in my hand! Lol!!! Then my daughter and I fight over who likes them more! She got me into this stuff and I love it!!!
