Ever get the feeling you’re being watched? Maybe there is a RAT observing your every move! Read Lala Albert’s comic at your own risk, it might alter your perception forever.
Commentary on digital surveillance has been done in excess in fiction at this point, but Lala Albert's short little comic about spying through webcams was surprisingly innovative and great with the tension. A woman has the sensation she is being watched wherever she goes, but little does she realize someone has been watching her through her webcam for some time now. But when she gets curious about spying on others herself, an intriguing web of paranoia begins to emerge.
"R.A.T." was pretty effective for what it was trying to achieve in such a short page count, but it was Albert's loose pens and erratic marker coloring that I really enjoyed here.
On digital privacy and the echo chamber of surveillor and surveilled. Sketchily designed, but well-chosen messy color brings the art into focus. Feels like one of Albert's most focusedly narrative pieces, but I haven't kept up with her latest.
