The Perfection of Women in Christ: According to Orthodox Christian Doctrine and Anthropology

Rate this book
A worldwide problem of great significance, with tremendous consequences for society, is the ontological perception--or rather misperception--of the place of women in the social processes from the dawn of time until now... Our topic is the perfection in Christ, specifically the perfection, healthy development, and integration of the female personality, according to Christian doctrine and anthropology. We will speak about how the message of the Gospel gradually advances and promotes women socially, as well as expound on the lofty ethical and spiritual perfection to which she is called by her Creator.

A small little book that may seem harsh to modern readers (or perhaps naive and foolish). If you want to have the mindset of the Church, the world is not the place to find it, as this book will attest. Women are far more valuable in Christ than anything the world attempts to label as “equality.”

Really good but perhaps wish it was a little more well rounded in its delivery. Seemed to just touch on different parts of womanhood. Very little book, read it in less than a day.

Some very beautiful parts!

“God endowed woman with a hidden river of affection, issuing from deep within her very nature, which is able to reshape the world: to tame it, reconcile and sweeten it, to give and receive love, and elevate it out of its banality.”

It started well, but fell flat. It didn't really provide any substance. I kept waiting for it, but it failed to deliver. It felt more like a promising outline to a book, rather than a completed project.

Good, short read; only 4-stars because it's very surface level. Something like this but longer/more in-depth would be more useful for Orthodox women.

A lot of great information put into a small book. Don’t think it’s the best for people just beginning to study Orthodoxy or even Christianity in general. It’s also pretty broad for people who are actually already knowledgeable or have been studying Orthodoxy for a while. Seems like it’s less of a book and more of like a talk that was just put into text. Would love to see a book that gets more in-depth on these issues. Definitely would recommend this as something for young women to learn from though, if they’re willing to take the time to understand it and do further research on their own. It’s a quick read anyways so if you have the time I would still go for it despite my small criticisms.
