2.5 Stars! Cute short, wish it was longer though!
Such potential, and it's a shame that the author didn't explore the possibility of expanding on the story. It ended before it could really get off the ground. I wanted to get to know these characters and stay with them a little longer. Oh well, I love Ms. Logan's writing and I'll be looking forward to her next book.

Laura is pretty blasé about the tornado warning that sounds while she's at work in the library one evening. She jokes with her friend Chloe that she'll go "down with the ship", but urges her friend to go home if she's worried. Another friend, Aiden, says he'll stay with Laura.
Aiden is a cute guy who lives in Laura's apartment building. They've built a carefully casual friendship, but Laura secretly has a bit of a crush on him. And who could blame her? Aiden is adorable. He's sweet and considerate and strong and protective, and as you can tell, I could just go on and on. Sydney writes great heroes: men who have their flaws, but are great guys at heart, and adore the women in their lives.
As the storm grows closer, the two realize this could be serious. Aiden spots a funnel cloud and they head to the basement as the rumble grows ever closer.
Tornadoes terrify me. I think Sydney captures the terror and helplessness of being in the path of one of those awful storms.
Rubble blocks the door, so Laura and Aiden will have to wait for rescue. They are fortunate: they have lights and supplies, stored down there by the wise head librarian. But that doesn't help the fear and anxiety they both have about what they'll find when they emerge, how their families and friends fared, and knowing how much their loved ones will worry. To distract themselves, they start talking, really talking as they haven't done before.
But truths lead to confessions, and soon they acknowledge the attraction they've had for one another and to a searing kiss. They both know their unusual circumstances has accelerated things, and there is still a cloud of uncertainty hanging over them. Neither knows what will happen, or what they will find when that door opens. But there's one important thing that will help them both face that moment:

Time could be an odd thing during a tornado. What felt like an hour can be only minutes, maybe even seconds, until the eerie silence surrounded you. Once the storm calmed, a thousand thoughts raced through your mind.
I’m breathing.
I’m unharmed.
You take solace in these two facts, but your mind keeps spinning.
Am I trapped?
Is my house still standing?
Are my loved ones safe and sound?
Those questions are particularly terrifying, because you have no way of knowing until you actually dig your way out of your shelter.
In a perfect world, the basement door opens right up, and you emerge from your protective cave. In that same perfect world, you see that your house is still standing, and while there’s definitely some damage, everything you hold dear has truly survived the raging storm. But the world is not perfect.
And we were trapped.

Force of Nature is totally something (at least weather wise) I can relate with. While I don't live in NE, I do live in OK which is right smack there in Tornado Alley. I truly believe that often times people find someone they can count on whenever they are going through something catastrophic. In this case, a tornado. In any event, Sydney does what Sydney does and weaves a beautiful tale that get two people to realize that life is short and they do love each other!

Force of Nature is a short story that's packed with emotions. I live in Tornado Alley and Laura was correct, we do tend to wonder if we should get all het up when the alerts blare over the weather radio. Recently our area was hit by several killer storms, and it reminds us that the storms are to be watched, each and every time.
Ms. Logan makes us feel the same emotions that her characters feel. It's a gift, and this book lays that out clearly. I was afraid, too! And I wanted Laura to get closer to Aiden.
While short, this one had a great beginning, middle and a wonderful payoff at the end. Do you need something to fill a couple of hours? This one can take you into the middle of a tornado, and safely out the other side.

Its a short story of highschool romance , you can just read it while waiting , or while going in bus , anywhere. I just didnt wanted to sleep without reading , & I couldnt pick up a novel and than I got this. I liked the message , somewhere I felt the same dilemma the female lead was having about her career , and I liked her decision. Also the story tells us , how we take things for granted in life until we realize its loss.

It is no secret that I am a fan of Sydney Logan's work. The way she weaves a story together is just beautiful. Force of Nature is just that. A beautiful short story that reminds us of how the human spirit yearns for love and acceptance and holds on tight when it is found. Don't miss this wonderful story!

When a storm strikes, Laura is trapped in the library basement with her crush Aiden. Will the time spent together make them both admit their feelings for each other or will it destroy them like the storm consuming their town?
When asked to review this, I must admit I was rather excited. I have been looking at this author for a while and she has been on my ‘to read’ list for too long!
The plot is rather simple, but is all the more excellent for this as there are no complications that could add unnecessary waffle to the plot. Two lovers, both too shy to admit their love for the other, are trapped in the basement of the campus library during a storm. A big storm which, on leaving their shelter, they discover has left a trail of destruction that will take months to repair. Like something you could read about in a newspaper, Logan then weaves in this delightful and incredibly powerful love story, with the most perfect gentleman I’ve read in text for a long time!
I’m at a loss really with how to describe what I like about this book, because it really was so much of a pleasure to read that for once I am quite speechless. One wonderful thing I feel needs mentioning is the skill of Logan to tell such a brilliant and developed story in such a small amount of pages. Straight away the reader knows the key information that is necessary to engage with the story, there’s no waffle, Logan packs a punch from the start, which is why I think I find it so engaging. I loathe books that could spend the entire first 50 pages setting the scene, but Logan does that, in plenty of detail, in the first 50 words! Rarely have a encountered an author with such talent for hooking a reader into the story so quickly, and so completely.
The characters are also fantastically written. Although we only meet Chloe very briefly, I found myself, without prompting from the story, concerned for her safety out there in the storm. But the real focus is Laura and Aiden, and boy are they well written. Similar on the surface, but oh so different underneath, the perfect (to me at least!) combination for a literary couple. They’re very engaging as well, you instantly associate with Laura and feel that you know her like you know some of your friends, even though you only met her a few minutes ago. It’s another testament to Logan’s story telling ability that she makes you invest so much in characters that you encounter for such a short time. It’s really quite remarkable. When you add to that mix her wonderful grasp of the balance between intimacy and the development of the story, I am left speechless by the skill she possesses!
Another aspect of this book that most definitely deserves a mention is the atmosphere Logan creates during the storm. Being an English woman through and through, extreme weather is pretty hard to come by. I love a good storm, but for us that is just a few loud bangs of thunder, one (or two if we’re very lucky) big flashes of lightning and a whole load of flash flooding. So for me, the concept of storm shelters, tornadoes and towns being levelled in seconds is very hard to grasp. However, Logan writes the atmosphere of this event so wonderfully that even I, with no experience of this weather, felt like I could understand the terror and panic that would possess you in that situation. I was biting my nails just like Laura and curling up into a tiny ball (much to my mother’s amusement might I add!) so that the storm wouldn’t see me. Stupid, I know, but it was so well written I actually felt like I was there in the basement and I needed to hide from this big, bad storm overhead. I felt totally in the moment, which is yet another testament to the skill that Logan possesses!
In conclusion, I suppose there’s nothing more to say. This story was a delight to read, thoroughly enjoyable and one I will most definitely, whole heartedly be recommending to my friends. There really is nothing more to say than to tell you to go get a copy and get reading!

Sydney Logan has a way with words and this beautiful short story proves once again that she can do it effortlessly. A lovely short read that will leave you wanting more. Perfect for before going to bed. You will fall asleep with a smile on your face.

Like a bit of dessert at the end of the day, Logan's story Force of Nature is a mouthful of warm, sweet goodness. Like a chocolate chip cookie and glass of milk.
Laura, Our Heroine, has lived her life in the land of tornadoes, so warnings for them are shrugged off. She'd rather be pretending not to pay attention to Our Hero, Aiden, who haunts the library where she works so he can pretend not to pay attention to her, too.
They're sweet college seniors, the pair of them, who are trapped in the basement of the library when the tornado hits their school. They get a chance to talk and make out and recover together.
Aiden is warm and supportive - a trait in a Sydney Logan romance - and Laura is a classic "good girl" with a fine feeling of reality about her.
No angst, no real relationship drama, just a quick visit with a couple who should probably have actually talked over a cup of coffee years ago. ;-)

Laura, a music major who works part-time at the college librarian, isn't shocked by the tornado warnings. She's grown up in Omaha--tornadoes are a fact of life.
When the storm warnings come she urges the patrons to take cover, including her best friend Chloe. Most everyone leaves, but Aidan, her friend and fellow music major, decides to linger.
After shutting down the library, Laura and Aidan realize the storm is upon them. They seek shelter int he library's basement--hoping for the best. During the long scary hours between the roaring winds overhead and the silence that comes with a trapped exit, Laura and Aidan reveal their hidden crushes.
Will their budding romance survive the devastation of lost friends and destroyed homes?
A sweet romance with appropriately somber notes appropriate for teen readers. Short enough to finish in time for dinner.

Author Sydney Logan is now on my TOP LIST of authors!! Her style of writing flows and stays with you. I know that this book is just 52 pages and really could be read easily. But I did not want it to end...... I screamed, laughed, cried, and well lets just say every emotion there is, I HAD IT!!

This is another one of those famed 'twister' stories I love! I would've given it a higher rating if it was a bit longer. It was entirely too short. The author could've definitely gone farther with this one.
Anyway, it was a very good little story and I would read it again in the future.

Laura is hard at work in the college library when the threat of yet another tornado comes through. She sends her best friend on her way and tends to the rest of the students. Since she has to secure the library or face the wrath of her boss, her crush, Aiden, stays behind to help.
For anyone who lives in "tornado alley", stories like this one are happen every tornado season. The fear of trapped loved ones, destruction of your town, and the possible loss of life is terrifying when those alarms sound. Laura has been jaded by one too many alarms and doesn't take things as seriously as she should. Thank God Aiden is there to help her out.
I have lived through my share of tornados passing through my town and neighboring communities. They are unpredictable creatures and unfortunately many people never think it will happen to them. Logan does an amazing job of conveying a real danger for Laura and Aiden. My heart pounded while I read about their race to safety. The life and death situation culminates in confessions from both of them.
Even though this is a short story, it left a lasting impression on me. When a writer is able to convey friendship, love, fear, and relief in such a short span, that is an amazing talent. I have read some stories that are less than 10,000 words that convey more than stories of over 100,000 words. Congratulations Sydney on your well crafted 10,000 words.

A short, sweet read about young love.
Force of Nature is about a young college student, Laura Pratt, and how her lack of respect for the forces of nature leads her head first into the arms of a fellow student whom she’s secretly been pining over.
I was first introduced to this author through an anthology, Romantic Interludes. And just as with the story I read from her before, Force of Nature had a very cute quality to it that in many ways is refreshing. You won’t find any bad boys lurking in this one. Aiden is beyond sweet, almost to a fault. My one complaint with this story is that I would like to it to have had a little more heat. I’m not saying they needed to jump into bed and get all hot and heavy, but I would like to have felt that conflict a little more…the wanting to find the nearest flat surface and go at each other.
As a whole, I enjoyed the story, and look forward to reading more of this authors work in the future.

I enjoy Sydney Logan's writing style, I find her work easy and pleasing to read. This story was cute for what it was - a short story about living life fully, for you never know when things could suddenly change. I would have liked it more had it been longer with more characterization and interactions. We see the main characters interact at the height of a dramatic situation and in the days following. We're only told of their earlier contact, so there's little build up or story arc. The perils of the short, enjoyable none the less.

I enjoyed the description of a tornado and how young people in America have grown so used to tornado warnings that come to nothing - because their path is unpredictable - that they tend to ignore the chance of danger. Where to hide on campus when the tornado does arrive? And who would you prefer to be trapped with until rescuers arrive?
This is a lightly romantic story suitable for YA readers.

This was another great story by Sydney Logan. This was not like most love stories. With Sydney's words, I felt like I was right there living through the characters. I felt for them and wanted them to be haooy and safe. I think Sydney is an amazing writer and this is an amazing read. I can not wait to read more of her work.

This book was a very good, short book. It was very sweet tell of two finding love during a tornado, while being stuck in a campus library's basement. Would've been nice if she had continued on with the story more. Please come out with another book to continue their story, Sydney Logan!!!!

Enjoyed this sweet short story, although I really wish it was longer! We're given a "peek" at the main characters as they find safety & each other during a disaster, however, it left me wanting more! All in all, a sweet story that many should enjoy!

According to Amazon, I bought this short story in February this year... it is now May, and I am questioning my sanity. Why the hell did I wait so long to read it?
I read the entire thing in the space of half an hour, but believe me when I say that does not diminish the impact that Logan's writing has. If you have read any of my previous reviews of Logan's work, you'll know that there hasn't been one book or short that she has written that I didn't love.
Force of Nature is no different. While it may be short, it's full of emotion that pulls you into the story.
Laura is blase about the threat of the tornado due to having grown up in Tornado Alley, so when one hits, she ends up trapped in the basement of the library she works in with the object of her crush, Aiden.
As someone who has never experienced a Tornado, I read the entire story with my heart in my mouth. I wanted to be able to go and rescue them both and reassure them everything was going to be ok, but I'm glad I wasn't able to because what follows is sweet story of two people who crushed on the other finally doing something about it.

I felt as if I were beside Laura when she emerged from the basement to find everything destroyed, and felt her fear and worry about her best friend, Chloe.
Once again, I adored this book and wait, not so patiently, for more releases from Sydney Logan.
I read the entire thing in the space of half an hour, but believe me when I say that does not diminish the impact that Logan's writing has. If you have read any of my previous reviews of Logan's work, you'll know that there hasn't been one book or short that she has written that I didn't love.
Force of Nature is no different. While it may be short, it's full of emotion that pulls you into the story.
Laura is blase about the threat of the tornado due to having grown up in Tornado Alley, so when one hits, she ends up trapped in the basement of the library she works in with the object of her crush, Aiden.
As someone who has never experienced a Tornado, I read the entire story with my heart in my mouth. I wanted to be able to go and rescue them both and reassure them everything was going to be ok, but I'm glad I wasn't able to because what follows is sweet story of two people who crushed on the other finally doing something about it.
