Cass Clereaux has a few problems. Sure, she just saved her whole town and is now immortal, but immortality sucks. The same spell that made her immortal also takes away her magic. It’s kaput. Finito. Gone. Being a FireSoul and finding magical treasure is who she is. Now, she couldn’t find her left leg with a map. Not even if a dragon pointed the way.
To make matters worse, her concealment charm is malfunctioning. Demons are showing up left and right, trying to bring her head back to the Monster who stalks her. While Cass is on the hunt to recover her magic and learn about her past, the specter of the Monster is getting ever closer to his mysterious end goal. She’s prophesied to meet him on the field of battle—but if she doesn’t have her magic back by then, she’s dead.
Ancient Magic features kick butt heroines, a tough hero, and otherworldly adventure. Reviewers have compared it to Jaymin Eve and Illona Andrews.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Well when we last left Cass she found herself in a mighty predicament and that's a fact. Her FireSoul nature had saved both her and the town but left her with a very tricky problem. Now her own innate magic has disappeared leaving her floundering and as this story starts Cass starts to realise that with her magic nulled her chances of staying off the radar are well and truly scuppered ! What Cass needs is to find the Seer who recognised her necklace as her memories of life before she turned fifteen are hazy at best . Tracking him down though sends her off yet again chasing answers to her past but all the while she knows her nemesis Victor Orriodor is hunting her but this time Cass is not alone and with those she loves beside her there's nothing that Cass won't tackle! Well if you thought the last book was a bit of a cliffhanger you won't believe what the author has done this time! Just how are we supposed to wait for the next instalment ? Still I'm getting ahead of myself and should reassure my fellow readers that a lot comes to light in this book as the FireSouls turn out to be a lot more complicated than initially hinted at. This author excells at taking Cass ( and her readers) on a treasure hunt through diverse cultures but this time my head was spinning! I adore the insights into ancient civilisations as history comes to life in vivid technicolor but I was slightly nonplussed by the characters returning to somewhere they had not long left. I just felt the characters were shuffled about too much as if I was watching a really fast game of table tennis or something. Throughout this series the big bad monster the girls have been hiding from has been shady at best. I mentioned when I read the last book that I'd expected it to be a trilogy as I couldn't quite see how this overall arc would continue. Well Victor is just the tip of the iceberg here and the author is clearly expanding the enemies that the FireSouls face. I'm very hopeful that the pace will not lessen because these books are fast paced, leaving this reader breathless . I still want to know more about the other FireSouls if honest but if it's adventure and thrills you are looking for than this series is highly recommended I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review
This series is getting more and more exciting! With all the action and everything that is happening, there is never a dull moment. This book is super fast past that it just flow by you without you even realizing. Love it! Cannot wait to read the fifth and final book of the series.
This is the fourth installment to the series that follows cass and her friends as they fight against an unknown monster that are slowly closing in on them. Plus they have to be careful not to get caught by the alpha council because they are firesouls the most hated and feared supernatural in the world This book helps us learn about nix, del and Cass. They come across new hidden organisations that can help the girls along the way. You can see Aidan and Cass become closer as they try to steal a moment here and there within the chaos Can they stay away from the monster or will this be the end for Cass ? My favourite character is Aidan hes proving to be loyal My least favourite character is Victor there is something else going on with him what's he scared of? I would definitely recommend the book to anyone that likes the supernatural genre Roll on the final book in the huntress series
OMG what HUGE revelations in this installment. Finally the roles of Cass, Nix and Del come to light. A lot more is also unveiled about horrible Victor. What a sad, twisted case he is. Everything is up in the air, Cass' magic is out of control.Victor has a stronghold in the Order of the Magica and time is running out. Because the seers have seen the battle ahead and Cass is totally unprepared. Oh man what a mess!
I loved this fourth volume I learned a little more about the beautiful Cass Clereaux too eager to read the fifth volume. On the cover we find Cass holding a sword in his left hand and his right hand using magic. She's immortal now, and she can not even use her powers anymore. And she will have to deal with demons. We see that the author was an archaeologist because the story holds well.
Wonderful characters with an impressive, masterfully written, unforgettable story! Hall's Dragons Gift: The Huntress series is now included in the small group of my most favored favorites!!! I can't wait for the next book in the series to be available!!
Hmmmm... I can't say there was anything wrong with this one. In essence it had everything going for it. Strong interesting heroine. Action packed story full of intriguing characters and suspense. And the hunky hero. I guess that is the problem with it. I kept searching for that WOW factor that makes it catch one by the imagination and not want to let go. And unfortunately it never did for me. I realize there a heck ton of books attached to this series and I was tittering on the edge of will they or won't they for a while there, and not in a good way.
Because they have so many books I was worried they were gonna keep the main villain the same for all the three sisters so they can defeat him together after 15 books and each of their individual stories - which would have been way too much. So I was relieved when the main badie in this book was defeated and then the next series gets their own set of villains.
But other than than I never felt like there was any particular life to these characters. They were a trio of girls that bonded and never had any issues whatsoever in their own sisterhood except one of them sometimes possibly dying but I guess that's the world they live in... And the whole idea that the main character h ONLY liked eating pasties and drinking PBR beer and nothing else in this whole wide world. Like nothing else existed in the world for her and that said more about her intricacies as a character more than anything. I did not feel any real blood was pumping though these characters, almost like they were just puppets on a string a story book acting out their part and that's it. I guess that's just me, but I don't think this world will be for me for future. Shame really what with the prolific universe it is.
No entanto, a realização deixa a desejar.
i thought i was starting to like this book, but it has proven, again, as another cliche story. but there was some parts that i genuinely like, such as the traveling all around the world part. the rest, predictable. it couldn't even decided, whether it wanted to be an adult novel or young-adult. ughh... at least the character didn't bother to get her hands dirty, unlike the previous series that i read.
Recap:
i love how this series started with some wild adventure. now it started with tomb riding in a middle of egypt's desert, in some unknown, magical pyramid. it started as usual, with a sphinx that guarded a door, some bobby traps, some boat making, some mummy, and some fire demons. cass and del went here because they needed a dampener to damp cass's nullifying magic but it was useless. but at least the mummy they fought let them take anything they wanted though (because they gave it peace and all that).
they went to the nullifier's funeral in the museum when they saw victor among the order of magica's rank so they ran away when suddenly they got a phone call from the blood mage's sister, asking them to meet her. again, they demanded a zealous amount of payment in exchange of information of where Aethelred was.
the sisters took them to a tree house, and Aethelred told Cass that her pass was related to the necklace she wore but he couldn't open it or understand its writing so he told them to go to the order of Lyceum of Metis in Aegean, Greece (ughh, i really love how they kept on traveling all around the world). when they arrived, they were (again) attacked by demons but the people from Lyceum came to help them.
Lyceum was some kind of knowledge sanctuary/afterlife for smart people. they said they knew Cass's parents, that her parents work for some kind of secret organization that couldn't be found but hey, at least she could try to open the necklace if she dip in memory pool so dip she was.
in her memory, she saw her father when he gave her the necklace and how to open it but she started to get suffocated but she couldn't resurfaced because a demon was holding her underwater until Aidan killed them. so she opened the necklace and inside was a map of her home in ireland. so she and Aidan jetted to Ireland and while on the plane, she tried to remember more of her past. there was the usual stabbing pain but instead of giving up, she pushed through it until she fainted.
she dreamed about her escaped from jail. cass, nix, and del (turned out it was their true name after all) was desperate to get away from the endless desert in the waypoint and del couldn't use her power because she was too weak, unless nix and cass gave up something to fuel her. so cass gave up her root power (victor failed to steal it after all) and they managed to escape. when aidan and cass discussed about it, they came up with the conclusion that del didn't have cass' power, but cass still could get it back.
when they arrived to a small island in ireland ( it was an island for supernatural only and they), they were greeted by nix, del, claire, and connor (aidan called for backup). cass used to live in a place called the black fort. when they inspected the place, there was nothing of useful so Cass felt frustrated, went outside, and saw another field behind rocks.
she climbed there, touched some rocks, and her mom's apparition appeared, told her that cass, nix, and del was a triumvirate of life, death, and magic, and she could find answers if she teleported to the league of firesoul place using the statues. aidan and friends caught up to her then and cass told them what happened. after some arguing, aidan agreed to let cass, del, and nix went teleporting alone.
they arrived to another part of abandoned waypoint and met Alton, one of the firesouls there. he told then that the league of firesouls were created to fight victor and protect firesouls but their number diminished when they went to a battle against victor in order to save the triumvirate. then corin, an illusory (which apparently different from illusionist) that could show the past took them to scotland to show victor's past. it was the cliche story, little boy who lost his parents because they were firesouls and he wanted revenge.
and again, they were attacked by demons. after killing them all off, they returned to the base. corin decided touring was too dangerous so she asked their librarian/historian to tell them the story instead. argus/victor asked other firesouls to help, but rejected, so he went on killing rampage instead, causing the order of magical and alpha council to haunt firesouls even more so the other firesouls took him down. they put him to sleep bcs he was too powerful and all that.
and they said they couldn't help cass with her power, she had to do it herself so she was sent on another wild quests to find answer in the place where the prophecy of the triumvirate was made. but first, they returned to aidan's home to rest and for aidan and cass to have some woohoo. again.
the next day, they visited the cave, but there was nothing because it was not solstice, based on their observation. so they all left cass alone inside, claire and aidan made a huge fireball while nix conjured a mirror and voila, solstice. and then cass's ancestor appeared.
she gave cass a ring to focus her power, told her that her root power was that she had unlimited magic and it was inside del, and to unlock it, they had to return to the black fortress again. they would also find more answer in there so they get back to the black fortress again.
when del and nix touched their representation's statue (it was a conduit for their power to make them stronger), they started to glow except for cass. apparently, there was something that protected the 'magic' statue and she used her nullifying power to undo it. and then, the three of them started to glowing together (it sounded extremely cheesy) until cass fainted and met her parents.
some chit chat that was not worth remembering, except the warning that she destroyed her concealment charm, then she woke up, her friends all fainted too, surrounded by tons of demon. they fought until cass made some huge sonic boom, knocked out everyone including her friends, and then victor made her grant entrance.
the league of firesoul intervene and took Cass away while Victor immediately made his move and kidnapped del and nix instead. of course cass went mad and immediately rushed to helped them and turned out, they were in magic bend. however, the league of firesoul didn't want to help her because there were too many order of magica and they told her to call for help if she was already out of town.
so cass tracked her sisters with the help from aidan, claire, and connor. they found nix and del in a business district, along with victor, and they were in the middle of a meeting with a member of order of magica, called as the bulldog. apparently, victor was making some exchange or bargain with the bulldog. cass and her sisters in exchange for a favor. however, a guard found them and their surprised attack failed.
another battle, connor and claire managed to brought nix and del out and cass forced aidan to protected them. meanwhile, cass the idiot thought she could hold them off using a shield (from god dunno where), instead of blasted them off with her power so she fainted and prisoned. she found out that the bulldog didn't tell anyone that she was a firesoul, only she was prisoned because she was a thief. she also met the firesoul that got caught by the alpha council and made an alliance with him. the end

I received a free advance digital copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank You so much Linsey!!!!
First, I wanted to say thank you to the Author of this book Linsey Hall for always trusting me for the advance copy and giving me the privilege to read her book first. It was really a heart warming feeling if one of your favorite authors trusted you enough with their book.
Okay, what I really admire in this series is that it takes you on a different level of adventure in every installment. Every book tends to stand out more than the previous one that makes every book better and better than the last. And I could say that this book had surpassed the previous one. Its action-packed since the first chapter. There is also some revelations of what Cass, Nix and Del really are. And makes me more excited that there is a possibility that Del will be having her own story. Yey!
I am really happy that Linsey was able to give its readers a first glimpse of what Cass can really do. But, I must say that after I read this book, I was actually thinking: "What the hell? No, No, No.. I want the next book!" So yes, the book is a little bit a cliffhanger for me, BUT. IN A VERY GOOD WAY. Its like me, looking forward to go back to my favorite Korean Restaurant. Hahahaha. I am literally craving for the next book. If you haven't read this book yet, I think you will be glad to know that finally, Cass was able to find a little bit of her past and what her power she really had that leads to her abduction when she was a kid.
And now, I really wanted to see how Cass will kick some ass after that ending. I am looking forward on how the Firesouls will stop hiding and defend their race to be accepted in the world of magic. It was indeed another book to look forward to in the next coming weeks.
After the somewhat disappointing third book in the Dragon's Gift - Huntress series I am so pleased that "Eternal Magic" sets the series back on track as we discover a great deal about Cass, Del and Nix's destiny. We also learn about Nix's past as well as the FireSouls.
As Cass is left feeling after absorbing the power of the nullifier, it seems she is now constantly under attack by demons and her nemesis, Victor Oriordor. She is now desperate to get her powers back and with the help of her sisters goes on a quest to different locations to unravel her past in hopes it will lead her a resurgence of power.
As Cass faces a series of challenges, she and Aiden become closer and admit that they are dedicated to each other. I would love to say that their big moment was hot; but, unfortunately is was as tepid as water flowing through a broken water heater. Ms. Hall as much as I am enjoying this series I need to tell you that when you make your readers wait for the main characters to hook up over several books you need to make the intimate moment very hot and not " the next morning I knew we had a memorable time." Quite honestly it was extremely anticlimactic! What saved this read was the strong plot, interesting characters and great action scenes.
In a more positive note I felt that this book has one of the strongest endings of all the books I've read so far. Yes, it was a cliffhanger but a very effective and exciting one. Well, I'm off to read the final book in the Hundreds series and see how the gates unfold for our characters.
Cass is in need of magic – her magic – it disappeared at the end of book 3 and she wants it back. The quest to get her magic back while also looking for what her history is creates the center of this book. She travels to Egypt, Greece, Ireland and Scotland and has to deal with demons, a sneaky sphynx and a few other things. With Aidan, her deirfíur Nix and Del, and good friends Connor and Claire nearby there are battles to fight, new sources of information to court and much to learn. Yes, the “monster” Victor Orriodor is still the villain but more is explained about him in this book, too. Cass finds herself in a bit of a bind at the end of the book but knows she will find her way out in book 5 with the help of her friends.
While reading I decided that the action in the book reminds me a bit of a gamer’s game played on the computer - a Fantasy Game with the players (Cass and others) looking for the secret to get from one level to the next and escape as unscathed as possible. So, if you like action-packed adventure with strong female characters then this might be a book that will entertain you. Also, at the end of the book Linsey has added in archaeological information that explains more about some of the places Cass finds herself – that is a nice touch and well worth reading.
Thank you to the author for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Book 4 of this mini-series within the Dragon’s Gift series, has Cass Clereaux chasing all over the globe to find a way to neutralize the nullifying power she absorbed in the previous book. Interestingly enough, the answer might lie in Cass’s past!
Cass learns a lot in this book, about who she is, and what happened to her. She also learns a lot about who her nemesis is. Although most of the story in the book is completed, there is a cliffhanger ending, so line up the next book!
An action packed, fast paced urban fantasy, set in a fascinating world with intriguing characters. Recommended for fans of Urban Fantasy with an adventure themed storyline.
Aiden, Del, Nix, and now Connor and Claire teaming up to help Cass work together very well. Aiden and Cass are getting closer even through all the chaos that has become their life. Cass, Del, and Nix are finding uncovering more secrets of their forgotten past. Victor is getting ever closer. With secrets being revealed and more to unravel working together is the only way to go for this band of friends. Linsey Hall has kept me captured in this series straight from the beginning and I can't wait for more.
DNF 71% I was hoping the first romance scene was a fluke, it was not. I don't want the books to be saturated with sex but to invest 4 books into a couple and not get the payoff of a sex scene is unsatisfying. Shame, I was going to read the whole universe.
Cass knows that it is inevitable, a fight between her friends and the monster they have been running from all their lives. Which makes it a very inconvenient time for Cass' powers to be handicapped by the Nullifier.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This is so far, the shortest book in the Dragon's Gift series. And where the previous books have had individual story arcs, as well as following the series' storyline; this book is purely to do with the series, and getting some major answers along the way. Which is probably why it's so short, there aren't any secondary themes in here.
I always like Cass, and I particularly liked that until the last book, she has snubbed her powers and done everything the mundane way, out of fear of them. With Aidan's training, she was just starting to accept her powers, when they are suddenly blocked from her. She starts to realise how much her magic is a vital part of her, and she will go to any length to get it back.
You finally find out the truth of Cass' history, and the mysterious power she lost as a child resurfaces. (Which was really cool. I loved that even though it is an impressive power, it's more of a hindrance than a help for Cass, as she struggles to control it.) You also discover why Victor is hunting Cass and her sisters, Del & Nix.
So yes, this book is heavy on the discovery, which is awesome after three books of increasing questions. The threat of demons attacking every time the Nullifier power interfered with her cloaking charm became a little repetitive. I mean, it made sense and it was a constant and random threat, but it almost felt placed to add a little action when the story was getting too focused on history & details, etc.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and how the world is growing and encompassing so much more.
I have to confess I wasn't keen on the ending. Talk about cliffhanger. It was in the middle of something, and was suddenly just stopped!
The book starts with Cass and Del trying to enter a pyramid to find a suppression charm. Cass wants to suppress the Nullifier's power so that she can use her regular power again. This bit of tomb raiding was particularly entertaining even if it ended with yet another battle against demons as the Nullifier's power interferes with their concealment charm.
The rest of the plot centers around Cass learning about her past and her root power as she needs that to win in an upcoming battle against the Monster, now revealed to be a guy named Victor.
We also learn about Victor's past and why he, a fallen FireSoul, wants to gather that much power. To be perfectly honest, I guessed the gist of it as soon as he was revealed or rather confirmed as a FireSoul.
It was very interesting to learn that the council didn't always imprison FireSouls, but that they used to police themselves to prevent people like Victor from happening.
As part of the entire series, this book was good as it progressed the overall plot quite a bit. Victor evolved from a concept to an actual person with actual motivations. As there were little interactions thus far, he still may be kind of a shallow villain, but at least he isn't a burning eye atop of a tower anymore.
As a standalone novel this was one of the weaker entries into the series. The group is continually traveling back and forth following vague prophecies to uncover Cass' past. Most of the time you were asking yourself, why the others including Connor and Claire were even tagging along.
And to be perfectly honest I found the revelation of Cass' root power kind of ridiculous.
Eternal Magic is book four in Linsey Hall’s Dragon’s Gift: The Huntress series. This book continues on after the events of Stolen Magic.
Cass now has the Nullification powers after taking the power to stop the Monster/Victor’s portal to destroy Magic’s Bend. Along with Aidan, Del, Nix, Claire and Connor, Cass is going to go on an adventure that’s going to have her and her deirfiúr facing the Monster with new dangers, their pasts revealed and a prophecy exposed. Will Cass be able to get her powers back? Will they be able to defeat the Monster/Victor?
This series gets better with each book I read and now I’m getting a little sad as it’s coming to an end, I love Cass and Aidan. They relationship continues to grow and flourish, Aidan is so patient and perfect. Cass did seem to loose her kicka** creed a little in this book, as she was being a bit of a self-centred whiner with not having her powers. I understand she finally came to turns with having powers and using them, but it was like she was power hungry as she never had a problem with not using her powers before Aidan helped her see that her powers were not something to be afraid of. But when she took on the nullify power she carried on like it was the end of the world. I do sympathies with her but she just seemed to be too fixated on herself. Having said that I do still love Cass’ character and can’t wait to see what she has in store after the way this book ended.
We get to learn more about Cass’s past, FireSouls, Victor, and Cass’s powers in this installment, which is very nice. It gives Victor a bit of depth without trying to excuse his actions at all, but it also raises new, unanswered questions about how he fits into the wider world of Magica.
This installment is more intense than the previous ones. Every time Cass’s Nullifier powers fritz out her concealment charm, they’re attacked by demons. Just to make it all the harder, she doesn’t even feel it when it happens, so there’s no warning. There are some very tense ongoing scenes–enough so that I was caught by surprise when I reached the end of the book!
While Aidan and Cass do finally consummate their relationship–we knew it was coming–it’s handled off-screen in a very PG manner. That’s somehow appropriate to the level of material in these books. I do like the fact that Aidan has respect for Cass and demonstrates it by being willing to wait until she’s ready, without trying to push her. Given the contents of the news these days, that’s heart-warming. Respect is romantic.
While this series still doesn’t feel all that different from the myriad of other urban fantasies out there, this book stood out by how thoroughly it pulled me in.
Cons What Cass can and can't do are confusing Repetitive in the whole beginning Some stuff out of context?
It's in the first 100 pages of the book that got me a bit bored, only because we got introductions of the characters again and again, the word corporeal was used at least 5 times in the first 30 pages . We get descriptions of places that we already know about that takes up a lot of pages (ex Darklane, Aiden & Del's relationship, Connor & Claire, everyone else). When I say out of context+repetitive, there is part in this book where we are talking about Cass and how she's dealing and then out of no where it moves to Connor's power: "Connor was a hearth witch, his talents lying in the domestic arts. Though he did have a mean hand with potions and could whip up a deadly spell in an instant." <-- This is page 112! THAT FAR IN and may I remind you that this is the fourth book! It's ridiculous. Overall, the second half of the book was the better part. It brought me in with the action and adventure!
Eternal Magic was captivating. I was really hooked when Cass started to find out more about her past, her family, and her powers. I am excited to see how she learns how to control her root power, if she learns more about her past, and if she is able to defeat Victor.
In this book two quotes really spoke to me “Crying doesn’t make you weak. Lying down and not fighting makes you weak.” And “Embrace the change and learn to work with it.” At this point in my life many things have been changing and some days I feel like giving up and laying down, but after reading these quotes it was a reminder that I am a fighter, how strong I can be, and how I should embrace the changes and work with them rather than fight them.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The book starts with a trip to a pyramid to find an artifact. That's the first of several opportunities to fight demons.
She and Aidan have a 10 second conversation about their relationship.
Lots of travel back and forth -- here and there and everywhere. Cass discovers things about her parents and her life prior to waking up after she, Del, and Nix escaped from the Monster at age 15.
Aethelred had surprisingly little info on the locket. He could have easily shared the 2 seconds of information in the first meeting.
I thought it was weird that the Metis said that the writing on the locket said how to open it, but then she ended up having to go in the pool to get the information.
This story keeps getting better and better! Finally Cass knows who her parents were and actually has a moment with them for instructions and encouragement. Victor is getting closer and it turns out there is a rogue Order of Magica working with Victor to catch the girls. Aiden is now definitely the main man for Cass (about time). More rescues and closer friendships. And the big new thing..powerful magic that is raw and infinite. I'm loving every second of these books! On to book 5!
Eternal Magic is the fourth book in the Dragon's Gift: The Huntress Series by Lindsey Hall. Cass may not have always used her powers, but with Aiden's help, she's learned to embrace them. Unfortunately, due to the events at the end of the last book, her powers are not acting like they should. They are even affecting her concealment charm. As a result, demons keep on popping up and the monster that hunts her is hot on her trail. Overall, this was another great addition to the series. I love the dragonettes!
Eternal Magic was a stunning adventure, full of promise, hope and wonder.
Cass is just awe-inspiring, never give up attitude and always putting her friends and everyone else first is such an admirable trait I can't help but love her even if her ways often frustrate Aiden lol he loves her to and even though he knows she can more than take care of herself it doesn't stop him from wanting to always be her hero and that makes me love him to.
Oh and I seriously want Victor Orriodor dead in a bad way...lol
WOW!!! I was pulled in from the beginning! Fabulous paranormal world, I absolutely love this series of books, the action starts straight away, and the characters are well defined early on and blossom throughout the series, you can feel the tension building between the main characters and each book always leaves you wanting more. The sub plots plus twists and turns keep you surprised and intrigued. Be warned though once you start reading this series you won’t be able to put the books down so be prepared for some binge reading.
