This is the 7th book in The Beat and The Pulse series and though it could be read as a stand alone, you won't want to miss the rest of this great series. And the characters do all interact in all the books, so you might miss some stuff!

I m not going to lie, I wasn't too sure I was going to like Dean and Josie's book. Not because I hadn't liked the series, but because of Josie's actions in the last book.

In the previous book I was not a fan of Josie. I didn't like what she did, when she did it, the kind of person I thought she was.

I am happily surprised to say that this is no longer the case. Seeing her side of things that happened, I could understand her reasons, I could understand why. And I felt for her as this story progressed.

She has been in lust, and probably in love with Dean Hayes for as long as she can remember.

Dean Hayes has been hung up on another woman for the past decade, and can't seem to get past it even though they have never been together.

Work and play should never mix, both of them know it, but you can't deny what the heart wants, no matter how hard you try.

I wanted to slap Dean at times, tell him to open his eyes and look at what was right in front of him, but other times I could see the man behind all the standoffishness, and my heart melted.

I oved that we got little glimpses of most of the people from throughout the series, a little insight as to where they are at now.

And with some of those other characters, a story that began way back in the series finally comes full circle.

Surge is a story of lust, love, and two people coming together and each coming into their own. It is chock full of angst and heartbreak as well as hope.

Ms Cross has drawn me into the world of the AUFC and underground fighting world with this series. I get engrossed in each book, wanting, no needing to know what happens with each character, forgoing food and sleep so I can turn the next page.

I can't wait to see what Ms Cross brings us next.

Surge
Amity Cross
5 stars – of course

You all know I love this lady and you know I love this series and all its characters. There is nothing I can say that can express how amazing her brilliance is. These books are easy reads, they are entertaining, they allow you to connect with the characters, there are great storylines …. I could go on and on. The covers . if that doesn't send you to click then something is wrong with you. HAHA!

These books are all standalones but you would be nuts to read them as such and not read the entire series starting back at the beginning. Why – well because in Flow the previous book, I hated Josies’ face – like put me in the ring with your sorry stuck up ass and let me beat you down. …. Now …. Well … maybe my thoughts have changed just a little. The stunt she pulled … no … no … and hell to the no. Not my Hammish --- NO!

Surge is the 7th book in The Beat and The Pulse series and this is Dean and Josie’s story. Lincoln and Dean Hayes are on the circuit making huge names for themselves. (Lincoln’s story as already been told and its so fantastic – see why would you want to miss that?) Josie is helping the boys get what they deserve as she is a PR genius. Her downfall .. she sucks at going after the man she wants and hurt the good man she had. Im serious though, you need to pick up Flow to understand all of “this.” Between these two books you will hate Josie and maybe then love her or not hate her as much … not sure. My verdict is still out on that but I don’t want to smash her face in anymore at least. HAHAHA!

Dean is a charmer, smitten with the wrong girl and still trying to fix what he cant have or thinks he wants. Monica Miller --- GAH ---- dirty whore that she is … whew I wanted to beat her ass too. Again to appreciate the hate I have for this character you need to read the series people! Dean is blinded by the girl he has had a crush on since the day he walked into the gym. The girl that is the devil ---

Am I confusing you – good. That’s the point --- you need to run and grab this one up if you have read the series and are up to par – if not then go back and get caught up. We have a fighter who has his own tricks up his sleeve in this one attacking the Hayes men in all the right places sending their hackles into overdrive. Gabe – watch that one.

Im talking in circles but I wont and never do give anything away. Trust me on this --- click it up – read on and when you are done --- click up the other series from Amity --- you wont regret it!

Thank you for the ARC! I loved this releases just like the others. I cannot wait to read more. There better be MORE! --- LOL! -- Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets!

When Josie pulled the wedding stunt in Flow - Beat and the Pulse 6, she dropped down my list of liked characters. I know it needed to happen for Hamish to find his real forever but still she rubbed the wrong way with all that. Now delving into Surge I first found it hard to let go my dislike for her over her actions. Just when I thought redemption she goes and smashes it to smithereens.

Dean the poor fool of a man, lusting after a toxic woman for 10 years. Trying to figure his head out with what he truly wanted was frustrating to read but that's all part of the allure. If everything was black and white it would be boring. No, the grey areas from both characters makes Surge all the more engrossing.

With the bitter sweet ups and downs of his professional life mixed with the chaos in his head about his personal life Dean struggles to find ground, as does Josie.
I will admit that the easiness of Josie believing her own BS annoyed me a little. For such a fire cracker of a woman who knows very well what people **person** are capable of, she believed to easily, instantly believing the venom was just irrational, it irritated me. But a good books traits have to be many and frustrating the reader Spurs them to read on, to know what happens. And this is exactly what Amity has done here.

The fighting aspect of the story kept me on edge every time there was a fight, I felt the disappointment of loss's bleed from the words and the sheer euphoria that came from the finale. Especially with how the Gabe story line went down.

I'm so very glad that Amity gave all the characters their stories. And now they've all told their story's they will be forever encased in the phenomenal series The Beat and the Pulse.

I love a good MMA Fighter read and this is one of them

No matter what book I pick up by Amity Cross I always find she provides everything I am looking for in a read and has me hooked until the very last page.

Hot male, angst, frustration, great characters and a hea what more can you ask for?

Dean is a fighter and Josie is the PR manager, both have relationships pasts and both have been dancing around each other long enough, now the eyes are opened to what is in front of them and the fight is on.

Ding Ding!

This is where the frustration comes in, the will she won't she, an ex on the scene, the running away, indecision but it all adds to the drama and I loved it.

Told in dual pov's, Surge isn't a heavy read, its steady paced hot and enjoyable and leaves you wanting more and I will definitely be jumping into whatever book and Alpha character Amity throws at me next.

Surge is the seventh book in a fighter romance series called The Beat and The Pulse. The books in this series can be read as a standalone. Nevertheless, I would recommend reading the previous books in the series first in order to avoid confusions when certain events are being referred to or to make sense of the interaction between the some characters. I must admit I didn’t know what to expect when I start reading the book. In fact, I even started getting a little annoyed at the heroine on the first couple of pages because I know she would be a whinny and selfish woman that would make things difficult for everyone. I am pleased to say, I was wrong. Josie is a strong and independent woman who works hard as the PR of the twin fighters Lincoln and Dean Hayes. She is great at her job and her boys are easy to work with. Well, at least Linc is. He is better behaved than Dean, the bad boy that stole her heart too long ago, and gets himself into trouble with little scandals, brand crossing, and more. That aside, he is a good man, a hard worker, and has a heart of gold. If only he wasn’t so blind to Josie’s feelings. I must admit that as the plot moved on, I started emphaticizing with Josie more and more. I could feel her insecurities regarding her feelings for Dean, the need to tell him her feelings but the fear that he still wasn’t over the woman he has been after for almost 10 years. She made mistakes while trying to figure out her heart, there is no doubt about that, but so did Dean and I think what even thought it was painful, it was also necessary for both in order to grow up, together.
Dean was quite a charming, troublesome, and sometimes blind. My heart hurt a lot when he was just so focused on a crush due to mere habit that he didn’t see he has had a good woman by his side for so long. I swear I wanted to throttle him every now and then for his stupidity, but I also was touched by how hard he tried to prove his feelings for our girl, once he figured out what they meant. A character that totally got me mad every time I read his name was Gabe, the official villain of this novel and the opponent for the middle weight championship of the Hayes’ twins. He was such a backstabber, blackmailing, dirty trickster in a handsome package with a snake’s tongue, evil intentions, and gigantic ego. In fact, there is even a female version of Gabe, or so I thought. Yeah, there is a female villain, Monica Miller. She doesn’t appear much in this story, she did in previous novels, but her presence is very important for the plot development and a key part in the development of Dean and Josie’s relationship.
Gabe swore he would take away everything from the Hayes twins, including their PR Josie. So when both lose their respective matches against the snake, what would they do to bring back everything they lost? Would it be too late for our hero and heroine? Would Monica break them apart forever? Would Gabe keep the middleweight belt forever? Which Hayes twin would ask for the rematch with the current champ? Will the twins battle each other at the octagon for the championship? I wish I could answer all this questions, but I don’t wish to spoil all the fun. I highly recommend this novel to sport romance lovers who enjoy a touch of action, comedy, and drama in their novels.

"To Gabe O'Connell, winning was as empty as his soul. He wanted chaos.
I just didn't know when the viper would strike."

Love sick, a crush harbored for years, unrequited longing and unresolved feelings combine to make this another jaw dropping angst filled read in the series. Josie is a car crash happening in slow motion. After dumping Hamish at Ren's wedding she has been wrestling with her own hidden desires for a man she cannot have. Tearing apart her friendships, her work and her own heart she is running scared from the consequences of her actions. Her heart is battered and she is scared of rejection so she does what she always does runs when things get hard. Dean is bad boy that has found his spotlight for all the wrong reasons, women and rebellion are his signature traits separating him from his sensible no nonsense twin. Yet he hungers for the missing piece, he desires what his twin has - love. Yearning for a woman for over ten years has left him empty and confused. Is it time he moved on? Is it time for him to see what has always been with touching distance? Preparing for the fight of their lives, can Josie and Dean remain focussed on the goal without distractions interfering? Can Dean let go of his boyhood desires? Can Josie break her destructive cycle? Can the win the ultimate battle?

Surge completes the story we began with Ren and Ash, it's come full circle. It's kick ass with a perfect blend of angst, sizzle and fighting that had me reading it in one sitting. We see a different side to Coach as he finally accepts his part in the tragedy and the wrong doings of his daughter, Monica, the pinnacle player in the game for their hearts. Dean comes into his own, having found something worth the fight. Josie reveals her insecurities and tears down the image of the hard ass PR business woman. I hope this isn't the last we see of the gang as they have so more to tell I'm sure! Loved it. The Beat and The Pulse had been one of my all time favourite series, there is just something about the characters that had me hooked from the beginning.

A fantastic five star all in read.

I was a bit hesitant to start Josie and Dean’s story because I wasn’t very fond of them based on their actions in other books in the series. I’ll admit that the primary reasons for my disdain for the pair was Josie’s treatment of Hamish in book 6 and Dean’s lust for a spiteful bitch who did nothing but use him and abuse people he cares about.

BUT, I was willing to give both Josie and Dean the benefit of the doubt because everyone deserves someone to love…everyone deserves the “more” that life has to offer…everyone deserves to find a place to belong and find meaning.

Josie and Dean finding their “more” was definitely not easy. Throughout the story, they both make epic mistakes and never truly open their eyes until everything has turned to shit. Neither of them believes fully in themselves or one another, which makes fighting for a relationship - one that is not on solid ground - extremely difficult.

Throughout The Beat and The Pulse series, readers have witnessed each fighter settle down and become grounded in a relationship that makes each one of them not only better in the ring but also provides him with the ability to split his focus in a way that’s not distracting. Dean may be the last man standing when it comes to finding his other half, but that actually makes sense because he’s always been the bad boy…he’s always fawned after a girl who treated him like crap…he’s never actually seen what was right in front of him.

Surge is the perfect title for Josie and Dean’s book because they both impulsively act on their unearthed feelings for each other, and that rashness ends up breaking both of them down in a number of ways. And while their sudden actions definitely make them doubt what they have, it also forces them to deal with their pasts, make up for their mistakes, and go all in and fight for what they truly want from each other.

I'm a massive fan of this series from Amity Cross and these books just get better and better. I've been looking forward to Dean and Josie's story and it was definitely worth the wait.
Dean's a player with the ladies and not really into the whole settling down thing but he's been holding a crush on a girl for the last 10 years but his feelings arn't recipicated finally he comes to his senses and decides it's time to move on with his life.
Josie has been working as Dean's PR representative for the last couple of years always cleaning up after him but she's started to have feelings for him of the more romantic kind but will he see her that way is there really a chance for them could they be each others soul mate?

Full Review to come.

I've loved every book in the Beat & Pulse series from Amity Cross and Surge was no exception. Surge brought us the final book in the series and gives us Dean's story.

Dean and Lincoln have always done everything together, always on the same page, and then Linc ran off and got himself a steady girl and Dean was left behind in that respect. But Dean wants more, he wants what Linc has, the steady girl, a love to live for, but he doesn't know where to start. First, he's got to move on from the woman he thinks holds his heart.

Josie doesn't know how it happened, how she developed a crush on Dean, or how she ended her relationship with Hamish to act on it. But one things for sure, once Josie admits her feelings, her life takes a 180. Nothing's the same, and Josie's battling more than just feelings for a man she thinks couldn't possibly want her.

Dean's beside himself when he discoveres Josie's feelings for him, shocked beyond belief, but the more thinks about it, the more he finds himself wanting to work it out between them. Dean's up agaisnt the fight of his life, and we're not talking in the ring.

Surge gives us the struggle Dean and Josie go through on their way to finding each other and holding on. Drama, misunderstandings, and emotional fears lurking to steal away happiness all take part in the story. I loved the glimpses into the other characters lives, Ren and Ash's wedding, Linc and Violet, Coach, and even an update on Monica (No spoilers here, but I could have done with out her presence). I loved the push and pull between Dean and Josie as they struggled with their careers as well, trying to find a balance between the two aspects of their lives. Their relationship wasn't easy, it wasn't instant happiness, but anything less than the story they got, wouldn't have fit them either.

I have to say that this is the first book that I have read in The Beat and the Pulse series. I have to say for a first time reader to this series, this book can be read as a stand alone. I did not feel lost even though this is the 7th book in the series. This is the story of Dean and Josie.

Lincoln and Dean Hayes are twins and both are MMA fighters. Dean has had it bad for his coaches daughter since they were young. But she has stung him along years. Playing cat and mouse with him. She is the woman that he wanted, or at least he thought that he wanted her, until Josie, the woman that has worked PR for he and his brother, and one of his best friends, proves to him that Meagan was only the fantasy where she is the reality.

Josie has been in love with Dean for as long as she can remember, but seeing him chase Meagan for years nearly drove her insane. After breaking it off with her on again off again boyfriend, Josie decides to through caution to the wind and go after what she really wants, Dean.

When a misunderstanding has Josie running from Dean and quitting her job, Dean knows that it will take grand gestures to prove to Josie that she is the only woman that he wants. When Josie's pride lands her in a dangerous situation, Dean, Josie with the help of their team will need to work together to take down the competition and bring Josie back home.

I could relate to what Josie thought that she understood, what she thought she was seeing. I loved how Dean stood up for himself and fought to win Josie back. Wanting nothing more than to protect her and prove to her that she was the only woman that he would ever need. I have read other series by Amity Cross and I have to say that this is another one that I will go back and enjoy.

SURGE is the seventh book of Amity Cross’ The Beat and the Pulse series. And whereas the storylines of each book flow seamlessly into one another, this story can easily be read as standalone. Which is exactly what I did. Amity Cross has been on my TBR forever, her covers, those blurbs, hot MMA fighters (I mean – hello??) – everything called to me – and now, finally, I took the plunge with this one. And I am really glad I did.

Josie Cunningham is the PR manager for the Hayes twins – always smoothing out the mistakes especially the bad boy of those two, Dean, makes; always trying to keep their image in a positive light. Dean’s reputation is one of an alpha male womanizer, but despite all of that, and despite that she really should keep her professionalism, Josie cannot avoid feeling drawn to the bad boy.
They both weren’t so lucky when it came to love so far, Josie with her on and off relationship with underground fighter Hamish, Dean with lusting after the wrong woman for more than a decade. But those pasts are not the only obstacle in their way of happiness.
Deceit, mistakes, drama and angst – Josie and Dean have to overcome a lot before finding to each other – for good.

Sexy, action-packed and easy-flowing. A story about a strong and independent woman trying to find her way in a business dominated by males. A roguish and impulsive fighter with his heart in the right place. That kind of story you do not want to end and are desperately wanting more of. I am lucky to be able to read the previous book of this series – it will shorten my wait for book #8 :)

Having not read anything from this author but seeing her books all over the place I jumped at the chance to read her new book.

Surge is part seven of The Beat and The Pulse series, a romance series about MMA fighters that is gritty and raw. I was able to read this having never read the rest of the series.

Josie Cunningham works PR for the Twins, Dean and Lincoln Hayes. Dean is the bad boy of the AUFC and keeps Josie on her toes. Despite knowing about Deans reputation, Josie still finds herself lusting after Dean but maintains her professionalism, its a mans world and she is determined not to ruin her career on a crush.

A couple of bitter rivalries flare up and Dean and Josie are tossed together and torn apart. Mistakes are made they are left wondering if their relationship is worth fighting for?

This was a really enjoyable read, the story flowed and the characters gelled well together, were totally believable, and I did not feel that I was missing out because I had not read the other stories in the series.

It was great to read about a strong, independent woman, working in a male dominated environment. To watch her make mistakes and struggle to balance the fine line between professionalism and following her heart.

Dean was the typical bad boy but his character develops and evolves as the story progresses. You can see him maturing and taking responsibility for his actions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cant wait to get stuck into the rest of the series so that I can learn about the other characters featured.

Surge is the seventh book in the Beat and the Pulse series and while it could technically be read as a stand alone the characters do play a part in book six - Flow and that sets the tone for this story. Once again we are back in the world of MMA fighting and everything that goes along with it while this author takes us on another one of her epic journeys.

Josie is the tough as nail public relations rep for the fighters at the gym. The only problem is that Josie isn't as tough as everyone makes her out to be and she has been faking it for as long as she can remember hence the stunt she pulled at the wedding. Eventually realizing she can only hide from her feelings for so long she decides to face the truth about her feeling for Dean instead of running from them. Now if he doesn't shatter her heart in the process she would be super grateful...

Dean has been in love with the same woman for the last ten years regardless of the fact she is with someone else. Dean has not in any way remained celibate while pining away for the woman he wants. Dean instead chose to indulge in many willing women to make himself feel better about his situation. Seeing that his infatuation is a lost cause he decides to move on and starts something up with Josie.

Another steamy, emotional, fast-paced romance from one of the best writers in this genre. Can't wait to see what the author comes up with next :)

This is the seventh book in The Beat and the Pulse series. These can be read as standalones, but I would recommend you read book six, Flow, before reading this one.

After reading Flow, I really didn’t like Josie. I thought she was a complete bitch for what she did to Hamish. She still isn’t my favorite character. She is great at her job and is a ball buster at being the PR person for the twins. But, when it comes to personal relationships, she runs when things get hard.

Dean is one of the twins. He is the badboy. He makes Josie work hard cleaning up after him. He is completely hung up on the evil Monica, we met her in the beginning of the series.

It takes Josie making a move to open his eyes. Dean comes to realize the truth of his feelings. I really like Dean.

Can’t forget about the awesome fight scenes too! I’m a huge UFC junkie, so I loved the fights!

This is a great series that I really enjoy reading.

Dean Hayes has always wanted to do MMA with his brother by his side. They've been training side by side since they were teens. His brother, Lincoln, is the current Middleweight champ of their division. He wants the belt but won't fight his brother over it. Josie is his and Linc's PR rep who has wanted him for a while, but he's always turned her down, he only wants to fight and have Monica as his. Josie has wanted Dean for a long time, but has turned to other men for affection, namely her back and forth relationship with Hamish McBride. Can Josie break down Dean's walls? Dean gets a match with another fighter and all hell breaks loose with the aftermath in his and Linc's lives. Can Dean get what he really wants in his MMA career? Can Josie get her man? What happens when their pasts collide? Find out in this awesome read!!!

I have followed The Beat and The Pulse series from the beginning and really enjoy the whole underground fighting world Ms. Cross has built.

Josie, our PR gal for Dean and his brother Lance, has nursed a crush for a long time, but Dean is focused everywhere while holding someone else in his heart. Bad decisions, frustration with both, and bouncing in my seat for that eye opening moment made this a great read. Told in a dual POV, Surge is hot, action packed and dramatic, and when Dean gets his head on straight, oh yeah! He is on a mission and that mission is Josie.

Surge is a stand alone read but I urge you to read the series, as characters from past books come into play in this one. From Ren and Ash to Josie and Dean, the ride has been fantastic and I look forward to more, please!

Surge is full of passion, anger, confused feelings and longing. This book is a mashup of a lot of human emotions and the author does a great job of making the reader feel. Dean is working at climbing the MMA rankings. Josie is working hard to keep his and his identical twin brother's image clean. Never mind the unrequited love she has had for him for forever. She had decided to lay it all out for him and see what happens then move on. This is one strong lady and I loved it. Dean is a confused mess, when and if he figures it out things wont be the same.

This is book 7 in the The Beat and The Pulse series. It is a stand alone, but I think reading the previous books would have made this one even better. I love a good MMA book and this one delivers. It has a ton of anger and passion and loads of snark and teasing. If you enjoy a good fighting romance this one is for you.

OKAY, GOTTA HEAR MORE ABOUT REBEL BUT....

I have to admit, if you said I would love this series, I would've snorted. A little more erotica than I normally enjoy but it fit. Violence, whew, a lot! But, in these stories, it all came together under Author, Amity Cross' (pen name) careful guidance.

After reading about Ms. Cross, I was not surprised to find her books listed as erotic romance. But I must say, Ms. Cross does write good stories. There is a lot of substance and most sexual encounters are fairly brief. The books are not for younger readers.

I can recommend this series to adult readers because they are well balanced and each story interesting. Have fun, reading, I did.

I so love this series and the world that Amity brings us into with every word. These are strong men both in the physical world they fight in and the emotional world they share with the women they fall for so hard. I love that she pairs these men with equally strong women. I loved Josie. She is definitely one of those women. She is strong and sassy and perfect for Dean. I wanted to shake him about Monica. Seriously shake him. Then I just wanted to shake Monica. I loved Dean and Josie together and so enjoyed their story.

I give Surge 5 hearts!

I admit Josie wasn’t one of my fav characters in the series but after reading the story I Def understand her better and came to like her.
Dean is Def an alpha but with his own hangs up.
I think what I love about this author is that her men are never perfect but I always love them more for their imperfections.
Dean and Josie's story is full of angst and heartbreakand some drama..but as always the story is sweeter for all the couple go through.
Can't wait for more!

Dean is bad boy charmer and blind to what he thinks is love. Josie is strong, sassy independent PR for Dean and Linc. For the last few years Josie has spent her time cleaning up after Dean all the while fighting her attention to him. Will she give in and take the chance of ruining her career? Will Dean and Josie allow their insecurities from finding happiness and love? I really enjoyed this book. Received copy for honest review.

An Emotional Roller Coaster Ride

This story had my emotions all over the place and I loved it. From Josie and Dean being not together and then together, followed by off again and then throwing in a impossible competitor. This was a hell of a story. This story had me on emotional roller coaster ride and I am so glad I rode it. What an amazing story. Loved it! Five kudos to Ms. Cross. *****

Wow, I really loved this book.

I loved Dean as one half of a whole but I really enjoyed seeing him grow as a person.

I loved Josie and everything about her personality. She was a great match for Dean.

This story was a great ride. I couldn't predict what was coming next. It was full of everything i look for in a great story. This is an absolute must for anyone who loves an amazing book.

Finally Josie and Dean!

Finally Josie and Deans story! I wanted to read about them from the beginning so it was great to finally read their story. I enjoyed this book, the writing, the characters, the villain and the action was all great. A couple of typos but nothing too big to detract from the story.

Josie was an idiot.
Hated her wishy washy stubborn attitude. Ugh.
Dean needed to grow some balls and Gabe was just pointless for me since everything was solved so easily anyway.
Wasn't for me, couldn't deal with the characters personalities.

Another brilliant read of Surge from the Beat and Pulse series. Enjoyed reading Dean' and Josies story. Big fan of Amity Cross can't for what's coming next.
