Is bad blood a myth, or is Alex really the devil incarnate? In the sequel to Secret Harbor, rum heiress Honore Blanchard vows Alex Duchamp de Chastaigne will never get his hands on her family’s business. When she works at the quay dressed as a young man, he shows up to pry. The bastard grandson of a Martinique shipping patriarch, he’s haunted by his father’s sins of seduction, thievery and murder. After years with a French privateer, he’s returned, a wealthy captain. He’ll stop at nothing to succeed, but he’d rather get his hands on Honore.
Andrea K. Stein is a native Ohioan, the daughter of a trucker and an artist. She grew up a scribbler. The stories just spilled out--the pony escaped, the window magically shattered. Not her fault.
Twenty years as a journalist couldn't stifle the yarns. Yacht delivery up and down the Caribbean only increased the flow. Now those tales celebrate romance and adventure on the high seas.
In this sequel to “Secret Harbor”, Honore is our spitfire Heroine and the daughter of Marie Galante and the Smuggler Jean Blanchard. Even though she is beautiful like her mother, she has her father’s temperament which tends to get her, and our Hero, Alex, in dangerous, near death, situations.
There is someone stealing barrels from Honore's parents Blanchard Company. The company trades their sugar, rum, and molasses, with France, and there have been shortages for the last couple of trips.
So Honore dresses like a man (using her cousin Gerard’s clothing) and intends to find out who is behind the thefts. She mistakenly suspects our Hero, Alex, immediately after meeting him, and with her cousin’s help, she kidnaps Alex and takes him to Smuggler’s Island to try and torture him into admitting his crime.
Alex is the one who actually witnessed the real culprits stealing from the Blanchard Company ships, but Honore refuses to listen to him. So when the real culprits show up on the island to capture and kill their witness, Alex and Honore barely escape. The culprits then take Honore’s cousin, Gerard, instead, and sail away.
Honore makes the mistake in thinking she is always right. She thinks that everyone should follow her at all times in whatever decision she makes, BUT she soon finds out she is definitely wrong in her assumptions.
Especially when she gets the hero, Alex, in a near death incident, and finds herself in to a sudden marriage ceremony as a slave. She then realizes that she is in way over her head in the situation with what appears to be no way out.
It takes Honore’s parents, and Alex’s grandfather working together to help rescue Gerard, and to save the day Honore, and Alex.
Honore’s female cat, Epi, makes appearances throughout the story, which adds more fun to their adventures, especially when she immediately falls in love with Alex at first sight, and always wants him over Honore, which makes Honore mad.
I received this book for free from the author, BUT. I am giving my honest opinion in leaving this review after I read this fun book!
Rhum Bay Sequel to Secret Harbor By Andrea K. Stein
Just how much trouble can a girl get into on the island of Martinique in 1778? Honore Blanchard is beautiful, headstrong, smart, and doesn’t like to be told what she should do. She is the youngest of the Blanchard shipping family, and she is determined to find out what is happening to their missing merchandise. Alex is the bastard son of the island’s bad boy. He has worked hard to overcome his past and become the success he is. Too bad people can’t see past his parentage. Honore and Alex crash into each other figuratively and literally over several months as Honore continues her search. We watch Honore learn to accept that her actions have consequences for her and others. We see how family pulls together in the tough times. I recommend this book, but know that there is a scene near the end that may not be appropriate for younger readers.
For those of you who haven’t read Secret Harbor, go and read that one first. Trust me, it’s worth it, and things in the novella will make more sense.
This is fairly short, it only took two hours to read. Even so the story was well thought out, there was adventure, romance and a rather humorous story. Honore was a little bit of a brat and very headstrong but she loves her family, and you could see that was the driving force behind her… well I won’t tell you, that would spoil it.
My only thing was I could think of was that Alex is hit in the head so many times in this book, it’s a wonder he didn’t get brain damage. 😂
A pirate romance with kidnappings, double crosses, and lots of heroics!
Could these two enemy families see beyond the past and what their relations actions were to find trust and love in each other? For Honore Blanchard and Alex Duchamp de Chastaigne this is exactly what happens. After several accusations and saving each other, they realize they are not their parents/grandparents and are unwilling to hold a grudge.
They received their HEA and I can't wait to continue the series!
