Weekend Wraps: 18 Quick Knit Cowls, Scarves & Shawls

Rate this book
The Fast and the Fabulous! Looking for knits that take only a little time but are big on style? Weekend Wraps features 18 designs that make short work of knitting gorgeous accessories. Cecily Glowik MacDonald and Melissa LaBarre, along with some of today's top design stars, have created a chic and cozy collection of cowls, shawls, shrugs, and ponchos. Many of these quick knits require less yarn than a sweater, making them the perfect projects for those special skeins you've been hoarding. The projects are all worked in worsted-weight or heavier yarn, so they'll fly off your needles, and keep you warm on a brisk walk in the woods, at an outdoor concert, or while strolling through town. Grab your needles and Weekend Wraps and you'll be ready for your next knitting getaway!

Thorough and concise directions, and tough to choose which project to work on because there are so many good ones. I kept my skill level in mind when choosing one to work on. Projects take longer than a weekend for me because I have 5 kids and 2 jobs.

Flipping through the book, I was immediately drawn to Angela Tong's Turkish Lace Shawl. I like the simplicity of the look and the flexiblity of how to wear it - also that it is a shallow triangle. There is a listing of what abbreviations mean and a glossary of stitches.

Fantastic wraps, easy to read instructions and good variety in styles. Will purchase this one for my library.

There were some cute shawls in here (the cowls were just okay), but unfortunately the clothing pieces are not size inclusive, two of them are a one size piece which is stupid.

This book was well organized, had an array of designs, and contained fairly clear instructions. Yet I didn't like any of the designs enough to spend time on any of the projects. I also felt the majority of the designs would be a better fit for those with a small physique.

Weekend Wraps, 18 quick knit cowls, scarves and shawls by Cicily Glowik MacDonald and Melissa LaBarre
Was so happy I had won this book from the webinar I attended with other knitters and one of the authors.
Such luxurious designs, beautifully depicted and instructions that even a new knitter can follow.
Each pattern comes with not only a beautiful color photo but a charted pattern along with row by row instructions. Also a summary of the item-some tell you needle size or something about the yarn used and what effect it makes.
Each pattern also comes with finished size, yarn used, needles, notions, gauge, and notes, stitch guide, row by row instructions, charted pattern and finishing along with other tips-how to keep track of pattern repeats.
Highland hooded scarf l will be my first project from this book because I need something to wear under my bike helmet that is not too bulky. We also hike and this would come in handy also as I am currently using an infinity cowl now.
Love the cabling ones and the intricate designs in some of the shawls and wraps. Book at end also has abbreviations used, glossary where the different methods are diagrammed and explained in words.
Yarn sources and all about the designers are also included at the end along with acknowledgements, index and other works by the authors. Also liked how some of the items were wrapped around your neck or body and how they hang-flattering options.
Won this book via Planet Purl webinar.

many of the patterns have cabling which I find intimidating.
One's I'd be interested in doing though I like others, too:
Interlock Cowl
Turkish Lace Shawl
Hikers Shawl
Fireside Cowl
Nonotuck Wrap
North Winds Wrap (but definitely in different colours)

Nah, this book is not for me. I don't like chunky knits that look as if they took a couple of hours to make.

I like the styling, but the only project I really want to knit now is the North Winds Wrap. The Turkish Shawl and Hiker's Shawl look useful.
