Fatima is the baby of her family of all girls, which happens to be the reason why her mother, Jewel, hates her, claiming Fatima's birth is the reason she's divorced and alone. With nowhere to hide, Fatima endures eleven years of abuse at the hands of her bitter mother. Her escape ironically comes by the hands of her mother as well... when she's kicked out of the house and ends up living in her car. But anything is better than living in hell at Jewel's house. With her mind messed up but made up, Fatima thinks she's alone in the Windy city, born into this world to fend for herself, not knowing everything that was beaten into her was a lie.
Also in Chicago is Torin Taylor, the youngest brother of four boys who were given away by their mother at birth. One-by-one, each boy leaves the nest to run the streets with only one getting rich. Only thing is, Torin was born rich, he just doesn't know it. With the truth somewhere out there, Torin has no idea he's a wanted man... not by the FBI but one of the richest people in the world. After being caught up in a shootout orchestrated by Torin and his brothers, Fatima falls into Torin's life.
Once a loner with no care in the world, Fatima melts the ice around his heart and becomes an important part of his life. There's just one his brothers think she's dead and Torin can't bring himself to tell them he secretly hid her away to protect her from them. Death brings them together but will it also tear them apart?
It was a lot of characters, and a lot going on in this book. My favorite characters were Nana and Fatima. I loved Nana's big heart, and her wisdom. Nana knew that her grandsons didn't always do what was right, and that they were in the streets, but she loved her grandsons anyway. Fatima was a very rare breed....not only was she the epitome of a young woman, but she held her own. Fatima's mother and sisters treated Fatima like she was an outcast, and Fatima deserved so much more. Fatima deserved to be loved, so I couldn't wait until her father found her.
Torin Taylor was a hardcore thug, but he wasn't as bad as what others viewed him as. When it came to Nana, and Fatima, his soft side shined through without even trying. Torin didn't know it yet, but Fatima was going to be the one that loved him, when no one else did. Fatima was going to be Torin's heart, and weakness. Fatima gave her all, when it came to anything she pursued. When Fatima became a mother, she would be the best at it hands down. Torin and Fatima had more in common than what met the eye, and I was team Fatima and Torin all the way.
There were many other characters, but I focused on the main two. Fatima and Torin's father, were searching high and low for their children, and the journey had been rather rocky. You could feel the love that Fatima's father had for her. I prayed that the mother and sisters felt Fatima's father anger, for the treatment of Fatima. Torin had a bright future ahead of him, but I wasn't quiet sure if he was ready to live the life he was meant to live. I guess only time would tell.
This one was good because it wasn’t filled with all the made-up dealing going on in the streets or fairy tale murders that even someone deaf and blind would be able to tell who did the dirty work. The Taylor guys had no respect for women whatsoever so that was a big turn off on wanting to see anything good turn out for them. I couldn’t help but root for Fatima seeing what she was dealing with and all the unnecessary bull Jewel and the sister put on her.
I thought Fatin should’ve stayed where he was because he did little to nothing to really find her, on top of that, he just came off too scary to even be going all out like she really needed him too. Torin was such a hot head I wasn’t sure if I liked his character or not adding on the way he did Karima was over the top and unnecessary. Good read, with some work needed on it but it’s worth reading the next one.
Someone asked for this book in the Cafeteria and this is how I started on this journey. So far I'm enjoying the Taylor family. There are a lot of characters in this book. I love the pace and the twists and turns that this story has taken. I'm excited to see where Torin and Fatima end up. This is my first time reading this author I like her style of writing.
Tamika and Jewel should of been best friends because their mentality and thought process is screwed up.. who kicks their youngest daughter out, while the two oldest is still at home,I hope Fatimas dad takes her with him. Now Torin's mother what did she do with all that money his father sent her....Can't wait to see how it all unfolds...
So much happened in part 1 I can’t wait to go to part 2. I wonder what Tyrone gone do when he find out ol girl is the one who was singing to the cops. O and I think Fatty Ma is pregnant. Great book
This was a great start to this series. I can't wait to see what happens next. Fatima and Torrin are too cute. I'm glad they began as friends before taking it there. I can't wait to read the next part.
This book felt like it started off slow, but I appreciate that the author built up plots, and didn't jump right into the obvious love story. I love that the couple didn't fall in love in two weeks. I'm going into book two now. Get into it!
This book was good from beginning to end. I wish it would've moved a tab bit faster. I needed some of The key events to come out before the end. Plenty of drama
I am loving this story. It has just the right amount of drama and mystery. It is paced just right, giving you time to get to know each character especially since the brothers all have similar names. I really like Torin and Fathima together. They are too cute. I'm wondering why Fathima's so called friend Fallon hasn't told her that her father is looking for her yet. Is she hating? Knowing what she's been through, you would think Fallon would have told her already. Tamika and Jewel have issues. They are not motherly at all. I wonder if they know each other. It's starting to beat up now and I'm about to start part 2. I already recommend this series.
It was hard for me keep up with all the different names in this book. I also think that 18 years old would have been a more appropriate age for Fatima seeing as she was messing with a 20 year old. Nevertheless, the story was pretty good though. I look forward to reading part 2.
This was a phenomenal read and definitely not your usual hood, love story. It had drama, deceit, and possibly love as the two main characters toy around with each other although one is supposedly deceased. One click for this book and enjoy the rotation
I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters. Those Taylors are a mess. I like the friendship between Torin and Fatty Ma. I like Travis, but I'm not sure how I feel about Tion and Tyrone. Love Fallon and the love she has for her bestie. These mamas are pitiful though. Looking forward to the continuation.
This book is amazing. A bit of love and a lot of murder suspense, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. I am patiently waiting for part 2 to be released. Good story.
Great read. I love Fatima and Torin together. I can't wait to see what happens in part 2 with Fatima's and Torin dad. Part 2 is a must! If you're looking for a entertaining, drama filled book you've found it.
This book was so good. Had me hooked from beginning til end. Them brothers crazy but close to each other. I don't know what to say about them mamas though. A real must read. Can't wait til part 2
Wow! This is a great book. Käixo you deserve 5 stars for this AMAZING masterpiece.. I love Joseph(lol) and Fat Mama (NanaVoice) I'm ready to love and learn more about the other brothers.
This story from the beginning has kept my attention I can't put the book down there are so many lies and secrets going on in this book I just hope they all play out
This was my first read by this author but I definitely wasn't disappointed. Fatima has definitely had it ruff I hope she get an happy ending. Torin is something else but I like him and Fatima together. I'm definitely reading part 2.
