this duology was SUCH a fun ride as im SO SAD it’s over! *starts sobbing* i had a great time with dean and the rest of the crew🩵😭
~ 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 - 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙙! ~ •dean is SUCH a cinnamon role #protectdeanseaborne •ronan is so relatable😭 •the lil romance between lyndra and gentleman jim was ADORABLE😻 •waverlydean = say don’t go by taylor swift •again, the world building and writing style were SO COOL •was NOT expecting that finneus dude to be the villain •also waverly is such a girlboss •the ending makes it seem like the author was gonna do a book 3 but never actually ended up doing it??😭
Dean Seaborne had hoped to leave the life of a pirate behind. Then he got arrested, and he's left with the choice to hang or participate in another dirty scheme. This time, he's tasked with robbing a castle island for nobility. But the island hides the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, a kingdom of legend . . . and secrets.
It's pretty funny to watch other people call Dean out on his bluffs. In this case, it leads to him, Waverly, and Ronan being mislabeled "entertainers," and therefore required to show off the skills that supposedly got them hired. So Dean told just enough of the truth that this means they're all considered professional daredevils.
Which means Dean just volunteered himself to go swimming with sea serpents. Again.
I liked the growing tension between Dean and Waverly. They just aren't connecting with each other anymore, and she's pushing him away with her assumptions. I do wish Ronan had more of a role, as his best moment happens offscreen.
It's also fun to see the depths of the mess Dean's embroiled himself in this time. He's got so many villains surrounding him he's spoiled for choice, but the right answer isn't obvious.
Overall this is a good continuation of the first book. This story would also be decent by itself, if you never got around to reading the first one. I rate this book Recommended.
A fast paced, fun read. Strangers In Atlantis wastes no time thrusting readers right back into Dean Seaborne's action filled world. Only this time, there are some surprising, unpredictable plot twists, a whole new setting, and a new set of problems for Dean.
Just as wonderful and captivating as the first, Dean's new adventure is such a solid adventure. More serious and tense than the wild adventures of the first book, it shows a more serious presence of Dean, and even Ronan. The stakes are also a bit higher and while Waverly is more a minor obstacle, it still found itself more than keeping my attention the whole way through.
Good kid's book with a story that keeps you reading. I didn't read the first book, but it stood well without the full background. The characters are distinct and enjoyable. There were a couple plot points that didn't seem to add up, but it's a kid's book and they were not big enough to break the magic.
I think this book is very good in the way it puts Atlantis an old legen into reality. I thought that it very well described the age of piracy and how life would be under the sea. In conclusion i liked this book .
Adequate not the best not the worst great for kids. If ur looking for a long adventure you won't find it here but a quick read somewhat of an interesting read.
After loving the first Seaborne book (http://tamaraniac.com/2015/02/review-...) I was very excited to dive into this new one! Strangers in Atlantis is quite a bit different from the first book, in that it is a lot more plot driven than the first book, which I found to be mainly defined by its setting and characters. Overall, I found this second book very fun, but didn't enjoy it quite as much as it's predecessor.
First of all, the plot of this one was very fast-paced and enjoyable! The plot twist were unpredictable and good, and it was always kept interesting. However, while the plot shone I didn't think the characters were as great in this one as the first, and I might have liked a little bit more growth with them in this book, since they seemed mostly the same by the end of this one even after going through many potential changes.
I also didn't love the worldbuilding of Atlantis as much as that of Zenhala. It was very interesting but not as deep as I feel it could've been.
My 8 year old son liked this book but not as much as the first. It was still an enjoyable read with twists like the first. Not as pirate focused as the first but still good. This author has a great way of surprising you and making it hard to guess what happens next!
Strangers in Atlantis is a cute story of three unlikely friends who stumble into trouble at every turn. However, their luck holds out and they are able to save the day in the end. In this installment, the three unlikely heroes, Dean Seaborne, Ronan, and Waverly, are captured by pirates and coerced into making one last heist. However, unknown to the pirates who put them up to it, the place they are sent to rob is only a gateway to the great city of Atlantis. Atlantis is unlike anything they had ever encountered... mermaids and mermen, electric eels, and walking sponges. Once in Atlantis they are forced to conspire in a different but no less equally heinous plot to save their own necks. While in Atlantis, they discover more about themselves and end up making it all right in the end.
