BRODY'S VOW starts a new series but brings us some familiar faces since we've met both Trinity and Brody in prior books. I really liked this one and even though Brody and Trinity don't sleep together until almost 80% I never really noticed a lack. There was plenty of action to keep the story going at a fast pace and there's still plenty of emotional intimacy between Brody and Trinity as they build trust between them. With Trinity's background, trust doesn't come easy and she's leery of Brody at first. As an orphan Trinity was recruited to a secret government program, The Valkyries, and trained to be an assassin. Unlike some of her "sisters" Trinity kills up close and personal and is trained as a femme fatale who can seduce her targets. She's never really known what it means to have a man treat her with respect nor has she really enjoyed sex for herself.

Brody is the perfect match for Trinity because he's a protector while also respecting Trinity's strengths. He wants Trinity to have a better life where she's not manipulated by a government who doesn't care about her personally but he never tries to direct her life. While this is all going on Brody is recovering from a gunshot wound on his last mission that left him with an injured leg. Overall, this plays a minor role in the story but this recovery is the set up for Brody returning home to visit his family. We only meet one of Brody's brothers, Wyatt, but I'm really intrigued by him and his story!

Together, Brody and Trinity make quite the power couple and while they fall for each other quickly, their devotion is beautiful. Both of them know that life is short and when you find someone who understands you, even the sharp edges, you should grab on and never let go.

Content Warning: references to governmental abuse, manipulation, and brain washing of young children; past rape

Brody’s Vow was the first book in the Colebrook Siblings trilogy by Kayla Cross. I loved getting to know the Colebrooks and can’t wait to meet them all.

Brody Colebrook was a special agent on the RHT, Rescue Hostage Team. He was currently on medical leave after being hurt on his last mission. As he was heading home, he was doing s favor for his commander and met Trinity Durant.

Trinity was an assassin who primarily worked on underground ops for the government. She accomplished her last mission but ran into difficulty which was how she met Brody.

Brody and Trinity had immediate sparks. They were also very similar and had a lot in common. Once Brody realized Trinity was I trouble, there was no stopping him until he could help her.

Brody’s Vow was told with multiple perspectives: the main characters, secondary characters and the primary antagonist. The various views added to the depth and enjoyment.

Additionally, it was a quick and suspenseful plot. I liked that it was interesting but wasn’t slow and drawn out. I loved the characters and the plot kept my attention. With that said, I also wanted more. It ended abruptly with a HFN versus a HEA ending. Hopefully the series will develop Brody and Trinity further as secondary characters and we can see the progression. In the meantime, Wyatt is up next in Wyatt’s Stand and I can’t wait.

Great start to a new series.

Brody is another great hero and Trinity has had such a lonely tragic past that she deserves happiness. They have a short but intense time together and discover love. You also meet Brody's father (Gray) and brother Wyatt. They are a couple of former Marines and the Colebrooks are a close family.

Trinity is a Valkyrie (along with Briar and Georgia from the HRT series). She had the most brutal experience during their "training" by the government. She was trained to kill her targets up close and personal. She is currently working a contract to take out a dirty older man who is involved in sex trafficking. Unfortunately, she runs in to a bit of trouble and needs some help.

We also met Brody briefly in that series and he was wounded in the op rescuing Summer.

A bullet had taken a chunk out of his lateral thigh during an op in northern Jordan a couple months ago, but at least the Hostage Rescue Team had saved the two remaining hostages, including Summer Blackwell, the wife of a fellow HRT member. Brody’s femur had been cracked but not broken, and though he’d always be missing some muscle mass in his quads and hamstrings, he still had two whole legs. Unlike another member of his family. His older brother Wyatt had been through hell after being wounded by an IED in Afghanistan, so Brody was all too aware of how lucky he’d been in comparison. He was thirty-four, still had a few years of eligibility left on the team. Whether or not he’d ever be operational again was still up in the air at the moment, and he hated that uncertainty. He wanted to be back with his guys, back in the action, leading from the front as he’d always done, both with the HRT and back during his days in the Corps.

After finishing his last rehab appointment he gets a call from his commander, Matt DeLuca, asking him a favor. He goes to check on DeLuca's house and see why the alarm system is down. This is where he meets Trinity.

“Hey, it’s me,” he said when Matt answered. “I found out why your security system isn’t working.” In the silvery light coming through the windows his eyes gleamed darkly as he pinned her with a hard gaze. “Someone disabled it. She says she’s a friend of Briar’s. Didn’t give me a name and now we’re both standing here in your front entryway having a Mexican standoff. Want to help me out?”
“This is Supervisory Special Agent DeLuca,” Matt said, his voice echoing in the stillness. “Who am I speaking to?”
“It’s Trin,” she replied, relief spilling through her at the sound of his voice, a heavy weight of fatigue flooding in. A beat of surprised silence passed.
“Trin? What are you doing there?”
“I…ran into a snag and needed somewhere to stay.” She’d been hoping for backup, and not in the form of the man facing off with her right now.
“Damn,” he muttered. “Colebrook, it’s okay. Trinity’s an old friend of Briar’s.”

Matt gave a hard sigh. “Colebrook, take me off speaker.”
Trinity stiffened as he did just that, listened to Matt for a few moments then mumbled a response and ended the call. The sudden silence filled the space until it pressed in on her from all sides. “What did he say?” she demanded.
“That you insisting you’re fine is bullshit, and that I’m supposed to help you in whatever way I can and watch your back until you’re safe.” She clenched her jaw and narrowed her eyes, hating that Matt saw her as needing that kind of help. Even if at the moment, she actually did. “So, Trinity,” Colebrook said, taking an uneven step toward her. “Want to tell me what the hell happened to you tonight?”

And so the FUN begins.
Brody might not know who the woman he had pinned to the floor was, or what had happened to her, but he was sure of two things. One, she had amazing curves. And two, he was pretty sure she thought someone was out to kill her. She glared up at him with a mutinous expression ruined by the streaks of blood marring the left side of her face, and refused to say anything. The skin of her wrists was freezing. “Start talking,” he snapped, out of patience. She’d just effing tackled him to the floor as though she’d been expecting someone to open up on the house when that car backfired. She huffed out an irritated breath as though she was the one who had the right to be annoyed.
“I’m like Briar.”
“What do you mean, like her?”
“A Valkyrie.”

Brody takes her to his family's place in the Shenandoah valley and after a brief time healing, they head back to D.C. to try and get her out of the country. Trin is used to being on her own and does not trust or accept help easily. She and Brody share an immediate attraction and want to take care of each other very quickly. Brody wants her, but he also knows she is trained to seduce men and make them believe she wants them. He wants to know that she truly cares for him and that she is not just using her skills to get her way.

To her surprise, Brody wrenched his head back. Her eyes flew open and his dark gaze hardened with anger. “I’m not a mark for you to seduce. Don’t play with me.”

Let’s see him walk away from this. Pride stinging, not about to let him have the last word, she grabbed his head and fused her mouth to his, putting her entire body into this kiss.

She appeared to be seriously loving what he was doing. Her eyes were still closed and her head now resting back against the wall. Knowing he was making her feel good and easing her pain filled him with tenderness.

They run in to more danger and then have a decision to make. Do they have a ONS to ease the tension, try to have a relationship or just let each other go?

Fortune favored the brave, or so the saying went. “My place is just outside Quantico. Stay there with me tonight.” He glanced over in time to see her swivel her head to look at him, the streetlamps they passed revealing the guarded expression on her face.
“I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”
“Why not,” he said, trying to sound casual. Her rejection stung, even if he’d been expecting it.
“I’m leaving tomorrow night and we won’t ever see each other again.”
If that’s the way she wanted to leave things, then he’d have to accept it. But he at least wanted tonight with her. He’d never experienced chemistry like this before, and she’d already gotten under his skin.
“Just think about it,” he said.

Briar gives Trin some solid advice.

Pulling back, Briar searched her eyes. “I know how you feel about wanting to leave, and I know we don’t trust easily, especially men, but Brody really is a good guy. Don’t push him away because you’re afraid of what will happen. You’ll regret it if you do.”
.... “Thanks for the words of wisdom, young padawan.”
“Hey, I’ve been there,” she said with a grin. “You may be way more experienced than me when it comes to men, but I’ve got a leg up on you in terms of relationship experience. I was scared to death at first but letting Matt in was the best decision I ever made.” She set a hand on Trinity’s shoulder. “You’ve done enough. It’s time to put the past behind you and go after what you want. You deserve to be happy.”

Brody would be home soon. Their time together had been short but intense and the bottom line was, she trusted him. When she left tomorrow, she at least wanted to take the memory of him with her, even if it meant leaving a part of her heart behind. Much as it scared her, this time she was going to take what she wanted and make the most of their last night together.

Trinity planned to leave tomorrow night but he was going to do everything in his power to try and change her mind. He wanted more time together, wanted to break through her outer shell and see where things went between them. If she’d let him in, he thought they had a shot at something awesome. Right now there was only one thing he wanted. As soon as he could get rid of his brother, Brody was getting Trinity naked and into his bed.

“Look. I don’t want to make this any harder than it already is.”
“I do.”
She blinked at his response, her mouth snapping shut.
“If you think I’m gonna make it easy for you to just brush me off and walk away, think again.”

I really enjoyed this one. I haven't read KC in awhile so this was a nice change of pace. Plenty of action and a nice slow romance. I hope Wyatt's book is next.

I think I'm a little in love with Trinity, she is the absolute epitome of my perfect h! Women are awesome, and we are often so very hard on ourselves, never seem to see how awesome we are, so when I come across a story that shows just how much we really can do, how deeply we can feel and how strong we really are I want to shout it to the world.
This is one of those stories, to quote Trin herself in a later book, "I'm not James Bond, I'm much better than him!" And she is!
Best of all her being all that and more does not take one iota of alpha-ness away from Brody and I really love that, and I'm madly crushing on him.
Loved the story loved the characters!

I liked this; I've always liked this author. It was suspenseful. There's plenty of special ops and Trinity is an off the books assassin. Luckily, she and Brody are both trained and skilled. As well as Brody's family, which is full of Marines. Both because this was about half the length of a regular book or 3/4 and because of the situation, the relationship went very fast. I am not sure that aspect is completely realistic, but it is action-packed, interesting and fun.

Damn, I was so hoping that Trinity was going to blow me away with her super ninja skills and awesomeness.

Sadly she let me down.

Story was weak and mediocre at best. I was hoping that she would have at least got away from Tino without a hitch but right from the start she came off 2nd best.

Brody on the other hand was okayish, I wasn't wowed by him.

Writing was good though.

Other than that this was an average book that is easily forgettable after reading.

It's an ok book, overall. A few good parts like when DeLuca called Brody to check on his house when his house alarm mysteriously turned off. Scenes where Brody & Trinity are alone are not so great but when they are with others, it makes it better. Love Grits, so adorable.
Another good scenes is when Trinity is with Wyatt as they head to Brody's place to meet up with Briar & tell her what she needs.

3.5 Stars - Brody’s Vow is an adult romantic suspense thriller by Kaylea Cross and the 1st book in her Colebrook Siblings trilogy.

If you’ve already read the author’s Hostage Rescue Team series, then you’ll be familiar with the main characters in the first book of the Colebrook Siblings trilogy. If you haven’t… no worries. This book can easily be read as a standalone.

Trinity Durant is one of the deadliest Valkyries, getting up close and personal for her kills. A government trained assassin, she isn’t accustomed to relying on anyone for help. But when she’s injured on a job and needs to escape D.C., she reluctantly accepts help from a member of the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team when he discovers her hiding in his commander’s house.

On medical leave following a series of surgeries and rehab stints after being wounded during an op in northern Jordan, HRT sniper team leader Brody Colebrook is headed home to the Shenandoah Valley for a much deserved break when he’s called upon to investigate a disturbance with his commander’s home alarm system. The last thing he expects to stumble upon is a mysterious woman in danger, and now that he knows she’s in trouble, he can’t just leave her to be hunted down and killed. But the moment Brody puts Trinity in his truck it places them both in the crosshairs of a ruthless killer bent on revenge.

Brody’s Vow was a well-written, sexy story that leaned more toward romance than suspense. There was a bit of action and some dangerous elements, but overall the story doesn’t have the same sense of suspense that the author’s Hostage Rescue Team series or Titanium Security series does. With that said, the storyline was engaging and both Brody and Trinity were strong, likeable characters. I look forward to reading about Brody’s brother, Wyatt, next.

Kaylea Cross is one of my favorite writers when it comes to romantic suspense. Brody's Vow was fast-paced, sexy, and hit all the right notes. I loved how stubborn and resilient both Brody and Trinity are. Trinity was determined to handle all her problems on her own, but Brody was just as determined to prove to her that she didn't have to.

Trinity truly deserved to be happy, even after everything she'd been through in her life made her believe otherwise. It takes a special kind man to show a woman that not all men are scum. Brody showed Trinity over and over again that he was definitely that man. I loved seeing how Brody's kindness, loyalty, protectiveness--just him being him--broke through that carefully constructed armor Trinity built around her heart.

I loved the action and dangerous elements in this story. It definitely kept me on my toes. The bad guys were sleaezey scum and oozed creepy criminal without getting too much into detail. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind all that. I just thought I'd point out that Ms. Cross did an awesome job painting a picture of the bad guys that had a way of making you shiver with disgust even without all the normal graphic details.

I loved the family dynamic Brody has with his Dad and his brother, Wyatt in this story. They may be gruff, retired military men, but they'd go to war for each other. As a matter of fact, I'm looking forward to reading Wyatt's story.

Trinity is an assassin for the government. She is a femme fatale and is good at her job. She has to kill a man who traffics women but afterwards there is a slight problem. His bodyguard is in the mob and hunts her down to repair his name.
Brody is a Marine but is off for a gun shot wound. He gets a call from his commander wanting him to check his house out because the alarm shut off. That’s when he meets the gorgeous but dangerous Trinity. She is a good friend of the commander and his wife, Briar. They went through the same training together.
Brody takes her to his family’s ranch to hide out and attend to her wounds she got in a car wreck. When he takes her to her apartment to get her money and other ids, the bodyguard is waiting while they are leaving. They have to get rid of him and his goon and a shoot out begins.
Trinity has never had feelings for anyone before and doesn’t know how to handle how Brody makes her feel. She must decide if she wants to be lonely or have someone at her back.
So much action it will have you biting your nails. Ms. Cross is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Sexy and you just hope they end up together.

This was an entertaining, fast paced read with a good amount of action. I liked the heroine a lot; her background is very similar in idea to Black Widow. I always appreciate characters that are selfless, empathetic, self-aware, and badass and Trinity was all that and more. Brody was extremely selfless and willing to help.

The tone of the story comes across as practical. This book doesn't glamorize the life of an assassin. There's bureaucracy in any job, but especially when working for the government. Trinity has to do things for work that are yucky for her, and she reflects on how she compartmentalizes her feelings in order to get the job done. I appreciated that the author spent time detailing the characters' thoughts and feelings because it really humanized them and made it easy to empathize with them. I really liked that the emotional depth the characters displayed were realistic.

There were some things that didn't make logical sense to me, which was a bit frustrating. The writing felt repetitive at times - the same idea was expressed multiple ways.

This sweet book was the perfect start to a trilogy. The romance was hot and the suspense was right on the money.

Trinity is a contract killer for the CIA - as part of a secret program. The bodyguard of the man she was hired to kill is after her. She escapes (with a few injuries) and ends up at one of her friend's houses to regroup before going back on the run. This friend is married to the commander of Brody Colebrook. He's called by his commander to see what/who tripped his home security alarm. When he realizes that Trinity is running from someone and needs a safe place to stay, he offers to bring her out to his family home despite not knowing her or what kind of danger she's in.

Sparks fly between the two but Trinity has always lived a life alone. She doesn't trust easily so she's thrown when Brody offers to help her. I won't give away spoilers but if you're wondering if Kaylea Cross is an author you'd like to try, give this a read. Looking forward to diving into book 2.

Brody happens upon Trinity, a Valkyrie sister trained by the NSA as an assassin from childhood. She’s in trouble, and he wants to keep her safe.

Trinity has been on her own, carrying out hits on evil people, but without backup or support. She’s tired and lonely, and doesn’t trust anyone.

She suspects Brody’s help when she needs to hide from a mob member out for revenge. But they can’t hide their attraction, and he won’t let her leave to protect him.

In a showdown, they get rid of their problem, but there are too many moles in law enforcement, so this is not the end of the story. It is a happy ending for the book, though.

I love the tough Valkyrie sisters, but not how they got that way. I love that Brody shows Trinity there can be trust and respect and love, she’s not alone.

Really enjoyed this book, Cross is a reliable adventure/romance writer.

I adored Brody’s vow. Trinity is such a strong and fearless heroine, she makes being a badass operative and amazing woman look easy. She shows her strength and vulnerability is a part of herself and her past has shaped her into who she is. She’s an inspiration and i applaud the way Kaylea has portrayed Trinity’s character. Brody was a great hero constantly patient and a rock for Trinity- you could tell it was so hard for him to be patient and how much he wanted to protect her but respected her enough to let her figure things out and fight her own battles with him as a sentry at her side, never giving up. Their love and respect for one another, their friends and family was admirable. I will be reading more of this series and Kaylea’s books in general.

Edgy and full of suspense, exciting and full of action. What I loved most was Brody's acceptance and insistence on helping Trinity, even before finding out her whole story. Trust was a hard limit for her because of her background but she still sensed she could trust him and when he prooved that, she stepped up as well. The sweet moments were swoon worthy, the action ones intense and edge of seat worthy. Having read some of the other series I did know the outcome of this but it was still great to read the full story and get all the details. Loved it. I am reading the complete trilogy box set but reviewing the individual books as well.

Trust the fall

Trinity and Brody. A neatly told story. Trinity is mentioned in the two earlier Valkyrie stories and always with an air of mystery. Now we see her in action and learn more about her skillset and background. Brody is new to me, but a member of the FBI HRT that has many other books. They go on the run when Trinity has an op go sideways and is injured. I loved seeing Brody’s father and brother. I hope they have more stories because they were charismatic. Briar and Rycroft have a small but important role near the end and of course there is romance and action. The ending works out great and I thought the last scene was very sweet and romantic!

3.75 rounded up to 4

I really enjoyed this book. It was a short little Suspense-Romance, told in third person (not my personal fav - I find it hard to connect). Trinity (FMC) is a badass trained assassin, who has the unfortunate incident of a job gone bad - fleeing for her life, she runs into, Special Agent Brody Colebrook (MMC). Brody is not active duty due to an injury, but is quick to jump to Trinity’s side, which SWOOOOON. Meeting Brody’s family makes me want to learn more about them in their own stories. I definitely will be checking out more books by Kaylea.

Loved it...romantic and a mystery

Trinity broke into Brodys bosses house. They were at a standstill ..both holding guns at the other. She had killed an evil man and his bodyguard was trying to find her to save his reputation.?She has a lot of secrets and Brody meant to learn them all. Even though she seems like a bad, tough woman you feel sorry for her. Great story, romance and action. Can't wait to read the second one.

Holy shit! I know I’m reading these books out of order but it’s ok. For whatever reason I’ve read everything else except these three🤷🏻‍♀️........... Brody and Trinity’s pairing was certainly explosive. The action, the danger and the overall chemistry kept me turning pages. It also doesn’t hurt that
Ms. Cross can’t write a bad book!! I love, love, love her books........so another fantastic novel and now I’m onto Wyatt’s story. Exceptional read.

A great read

What a great romantic, suspenseful story. It is fast paced, full of action with a kick ass heroine. It doesn't hurt to have a sexy ex marine on your side. Trinity is the last Valkyrie standing. It will take one exceptional, understanding alpha male to bring her to her knees. In steps Brody with his charm and special training and she doesn't know what hit her. I'm glad she got her HEA.

break from the Vengeance series, I jumped into Trinity's story. She was there on the first book of the Vengeance series.

She is a seductress. Kills her targets closely but she also can handle guns. What a badass chick.

Then there's Brody.. A wounded warrior who enjoyed his downtime to regain his strength before back to FBI HRT.

They a such a compatible couple. Brody shows her that she deserves to be loved and happy.

The action is good as usual.

Good; not my favorite Cross book. There is good action, but I think I struggled to connect to Brody and Trinity as a couple. Oddly enough, I think if this were JUST about Trinity and her plight (remove the romance), it would have been better. I can't believe I even think a book would be better without the romance. Maybe I'm dying?

Brody and Trinity!

Brody is recovering from a shot he received while in Jordan on an op. Trinity is a Valkyrie and is now freelancing for government agencies taking out criminals - until it goes South! Now she's on the run with no back up until Brody is sent in to cover her six. Things develop between the two that neither expected:) Great story and definitely a recommended read!
