A spousta dalších událostí mi nedávala smysl.

I mean it was alright. It was very basic and the writing lacked substance. The characters were a bit flat and boring. The basis of the story was interesting but, for me, it failed to materialise into a structured and detailed portrayal.

The ending was kind of sweet, I guess. But boring. All of Rose’s struggles and it ends with her returning to a man. Not that Bill was an awful character, but there were definite misogynistic undertones - for example if Rose was the man would working late and being dedicated to your job cause so many problems? Especially in that era, women did not leave their husbands for working too much.

The only thing Rose did that was wrong was make Bill believe she wanted kids, but she also changed her mind again. Tbf she is a survivor of SA so a lot of her reactions to having children and sexual relationships could be linked to that and Bill failed to properly understand that. It’s kind of explored by the writer but not in enough detail. I’d probably explored that could have added even more context to Rose’s character.

I feel like the characters in this book are more just concepts and references rather than fully adapted and established people. That’s what is lacking here - connection.

No a tady, když vezmete tu čtenost a hodnocení, jde skutečně o dobrý kousek.

Reading this book in my 20's as a londoner was really exciting. Thinking about how london used to be, appreciating not living in the conditions rosie and her family did. You also taking inspiration from how strong and motivated Rosie is, with everything she has been through to the outcome. This story made you think of every scene within this book and was just so well laid out. I loved it!! The ending is nice now she is a young adult transitioning into a mature adult she begins to understand herself and the barriers she has placee. Great read. Thank you

Rose had grown up with many siblings in a slum area of London. However despite her very poor background she had a thirst for knowledge and education. Rose was devastated when she had to leave school at just age 11 and go and work in a factory. She did have help to continue her education and Rose was driven to put her intelligence and her education to good use in order to improve the slum area that she grew up in.

One of the best books I ever read while in high school. It has a few grammatical errors no doubt due to proper editing team.
The book has a simple yet moving story line. The determination of Rose is meritorious!

Not very good. I tacked on the second star because it did hold my attention, but the last 50 pages I gave up.

Not an audio book which is unusual for me. Quick, enjoyable read. Predictable but I didn't care. Author has a way of developing characters you care about.
