For a long time I owned the Trade Paperback and thought it nice. Then this came out and I discovered the TP only contained episodes 1 and 2, whereas this contains all episodes 1-4 which was a nice surprise. As for the story it's great and I've re-read it many times over the years.

This is story of entity created through uncontrolled experiment that merged 4 women with extraordinary psychic powers into single being. That very soon gets out of control (like you expected something else here eh :))

There are several stories here that follow this energy being as it tries to evade its creators and their adversaries (that want the creature for the same purpose, to use it as a weapon).

Woven in this story is constant joking and ridicule of modern society - wars fought far away from the motherland, amoral experiments for the greater good, corrupt politicians letting mercenaries engage in gladiatorial battles to prove the value of this or other military equipment producer (aka sponsors).

Very interesting book, art is just beautiful and level of details is astonishing.

Highly recommended to any SF fan.

This was GLORIOUS. Amazingly detailed story combined with masterpiece artwork. I read it with excitement and wonder. Juan Gimenez is a master of the space opera. Plus the transhumanist themes engraved were right on spot.

У меня, наверное, единственная претензия к комиксу - это не "Метабароны". И пусть рука почившего мастера рисует удивительно похожие кадры, скорее всего, вручную, что на сегодня граничит с искусством, и очевидно, что художник набрался идей, и может сделать историю, но той эпичности, что внёс Алехандро Ходоровски, здесь нет.
История про девушку, ставшей жертвой правительственного эксперимента, в которую поместили 4 сознания мощных экстрасенсорок, что создало мега-оружие, правда, с собственными желаниями и нуждами, так что попользоваться им не случилось.
Понятно, почему девушки - автор явно любит рисовать крепкотелых пышногрудых платиновых блондинок. И это не проблема, просто, у автора не получилось сделать из неё личность, которой переживаешь: это архетип дамы в беде, у которой в рукаве deus ex machina. Кроме того, все 4 выпуска не обладают сильным сквозным сюжетом, их и читать можно независимо, ничего не сломается. Нет, читается все на ура, страницы перелистываются, экшен, графика, но какой-то сильной доли, развязки, чтобы зацепить и запомнить, как-то не хватает, словно, проходной сериал с Sсi-Fi, только евро-фантастика. Вот прям хочется вспомнить "Метабаронов", где каждая история - трагедия, притча, ГГ абсолютен, но абсолютны и его проблемы, и жертвы невозвратны. Ну а тут, у девушки проблемы? - но у неё есть супер силы! И все становится хорошо, до встречи в следующей серии...
В общем, красивая штука, читается взахлёб, но послевкусие маловато. Но как артефакт от мастера - хорошо. Хотя опять же, есть "Метабароны"...

At times difficult to follow and often confusing, the Fourth Power's strength lies in the beautiful art of Gimenez rather than anything else. On that basis alone it is a strong recommendation, allowing the reader to forgive any shortcomings in the writing, instead seeing them as charm. I would happily have read many more entries in this series, just to drool over the art, but alas this is all we will ever have now that Gimenez has left us. A true legend, every comic fan should have some of his work on their shelf.

Juan's art is off the charts, no doubt about that...
The details are incredible... the spaceships... the space stations... the space suits... every machine-like thing...
I think his only failure is about the faces... to me they look all too similar...
The plot is also good, above average...
I regret the lack of continuity between volumes 1 and 2...
I think I'm not giving it 5 star because I've read The Metabarons just before it and that was a f-ing epic sci-fantasy tale... So damn good!
