Playing a sport is good exercise and fun, but being part of a team is more fun for everyone when you know the rules of the game and how to be a good sport. Basketball is one of the most popular team sports around the world. In this book, readers learn the history of the game and the role of various positions on the court.
I have more good things to say about this book than it is long. Suffice it to say, this entirely team-based approach to explaining and encouraging basketball is - to me - more effective than an intellectual endeavor expounding on why we individually deserve a socialist future. I’m serious.
At this point in my life, my kids’ sports games keep me ticking in spite of a lot. 2x a week we get together to do something, grow, have fun, and not just sit around and bitch and moan - and 1x a week we congregate in a public space, do the thing we practiced doing with higher stakes, and a truly neutral ref calls shots both for and against your team and you accept this act of democratic fairness as an essential part of making this happen?!?!? I’m telling you, it’s almost unbelievable how decent people can be. You almost wouldn’t believe it, but it’s true.
