Playing a sport is good exercise and fun, but being part of a team is more fun for everyone when you know the rules of the game and how to be a good sport. Soccer, or football as it's known in much of the world, is by far the world's most popular team sport for both boys and girls. In this book, readers learn the history of the game and the role of various positions on the field.
This is a good basic introduction to soccer. There is a narrative to provide some structure and maintain readers' interest. I did notice an annoying grammar error ("one of the ones") but otherwise well-written. The publisher includes a lot of supplemental information at the end (books, websites, etc.) as well as a quiz, glossary, and brief index.
*I received a free review copy of this book from the publisher through my district library services*
For grades 1-4. Not my favorite sports book. I think photographs would have been more appealing than the illustrations. It intermixes a fictional story with facts about the game. I think it is a weird combo, but I am interested to see what students think.
