A gunshot meant to end the legacy of the Casey Clan has left a weakened Cain fighting to regain control of her business while trying to protect her heart from the woman who left her. As the heat of violence rises, so does the passion.
Ali Vali is the author of the long-running Cain Casey "Devil" series and the Genesis Clan "Forces" series, as well as numerous standalone romances including two Lambda Literary Award finalists, Calling the Dead and Love Match, and her 2017 release, Beauty and the Boss. Ali also has a novella in the collection Girls with Guns. Originally from Cuba, Ali has retained much of her family's traditions and language and uses them frequently in her stories. Having her father read her stories and poetry before bed every night as a child infused her with a love of reading, which she carries till today. Ali currently lives outside New Orleans, Louisiana, and she has discovered that living in Louisiana provides plenty of material to draw from in creating her novels and short stories.
I dunno why I gave this three stars the first time around, but dangit it deserves another! This was so brutal and Cain's moves - just freaking, Check Mate to the Brocato's. I loathe hearing about what happened to sweet innocent Marie, but the brutality against her perpetrators more than made up for it.

This was a very good story. The plot was very suspenseful and could not put the book down . Read it in one day. Looking forward to the next books in this series.
This series is a must read. It is absolutely addicting. Cain Casey and her clan are a brilliant bunch. In this book we get to see Cain and Emma come fully back together, and be the powerhouse couple they are meant to be. Seeing Emma take her rightful place at Cains side and watching all Cain’s careful planning come to fruition is just excellent. We also get to see a new love blossoming between Katlin and Merrick! I think they are perfect for each other and I am so happy Merrick found her other half. I think she totally deserves it, and Katlin is absolutely kickass.

This has a lot of the same issues I had with the last book except now Cain and Emma have come back together. Their relationship feels very forced and I found myself enjoying the side characters stories more. I like Cain and I just feel like if Emma were different or just not in the books at all it would be so much better. I’m listening to this series and this book and the last one has a narrator that I didn’t like as much as the prologue book. I gave it half a star more because toward the end their relationship and Emma start to improve and they get back more to how they were in the prologue book.
It does, it gets better with every word written and every page turned. It is well written and the storyline is awesome. I seriously can't put it down. The characters are very realistic and she allows you to connect with everyone. It's a great series so I'm off to read number three. Enjoy, you won't regret it. And yes ten stars would be my rating if I could.
What a second book in the series. What is it about "bad girls" that is so appealing? Cheer for the good guys. Who are the good guys? Jeer at the bad guys. Who are the bad guys? This series really makes you think about crime families, crime families run by women, revenge, murder, money, sexy intense love making, and family. I am hooked and pulled deeply into the crime family web. What to say about the Cain Casey series? I am enjoying it. It is fun to cheer for the "bad girl" and her family. Cain and Emma are a great couple and I look forward to seeing what they are up to in the next book in the series.
I'll keep it short and sweet since I've already reviewed the prequel and the first installment of this kick-ass, wicked, hot series. I can only say so much about the same characters until I run out of things to say. My five star rating should suffice until I've read the entire series and I can wrap it up with an overall final review. One thing I will say, though, and it's something I will never tire of, is how tender the tough, large Cain Casey is with her family. To have a love like that where you would put your life on the line daily to protect that love is astounding. Cain Casey has multiple facets to her and each book another side is revealed to us.
3.5 star rating Action packed, captivating, espionage and bad guy scenes... Just as expected from this series. So why am I giving this less star than the previous book... Well this was just too mushy for me and I kinda got exasperated by Emma's continuous penitence. Entertaining story all the same but now I must say I am unsure the momentum I had to get the next in series is evident... I might digress and perhaps get back later
The story continues with Cain and Emma. They are reestablishing their relationship as Cain recovers from an injury. The FBI and another crime family are in constant pursuit and trying to get to Cain and her family. Love wins out and the adventures continue. On to book 3!

Whoa! I didn't see that coming. In this continued saga of the Casey Clan, there's more action, twists, and subplots, which makes this second installment a page-turner. Based on what Cain stands for, one can't help but root for her. She loves her family, is whole with Emma by her side, and constantly two steps ahead of her enemies, who I may add have committed some heinous acts of violence against her family. Cain's reaction brings the old proverb of "Revenge is a dish best served cold" to mind. On to book 3, Deal with the Devil.
I have this one 4 🌟s because it did entertain me. And I liked the cocky Cain Casey and Merrick. Merrick is Cain's bodyguard. The story moved along at a nice pace as well. So I think I'll check out book three soon.
I don't know why it took me so long to read the second book, it was great!!
Man, I loved Emma in that book, how she wanted to get her family back, and how she showed her strength and that she was with Cain to stay! It was amazing to see how Cain and Emma love each other, it was beautiful to see their bonds and connection with each other strengthen, and they trust each other and their love again. Their Family is so beautiful, Hannah and Hayden are so cute, Hayden still amazes me with her intelligence!
I loved the action part and seeing Cain get revenge on Giovanni and his family for killing all of his family was quite a trip! I loved it! Also laugh a lot at how the FBI are made of idiots, I loved it!
Muriel and Shelby have so much chemistry! I would like to see more of both! I also loved the new couple: Marrick and Katlin!
I'm looking forward to the next book! A lot of things were left open, and I'm curious, it was really fun and electrifying to read this book, it's the best dark\ gangster\organized crime\ Lesbisco series I've had the pleasure of reading! Not to mention it's so hot! And they have a lot of points of view, which I love. I remembered the brotherhood of the black dagger!
In this sequel to book 1, The Devil Inside, Cain and her associates exact revenge on the Bracato family while Cain and Emma begin to restore the relationship they once had. The book begins when Bracato's men shoot up Cain's house while Cain lies in the hospital recovering from the gunshot she received in book 1. Cain cannot put her plan in motion until she is completely recovered, so the family relocates for a few weeks of calm, further bringing them all closer. Meanwhile, the FBI continues its surveillance of Cain, placing her plan in jeopardy.
I was going to read another book in between my quest to read the entire series, but I couldn't get Cain and Emma out of my mind, so I launched into book 2 to see what happens. This book ends with a bit more resolution than its predecessor, with the series continuing and featuring new characters and new adventures that I'll tackle soon.
This sequel has all of the adventure and romance you expect from these characters. There's a bit too much of Cain and Emma's mushy dialogue, even after things are repaired between them. But as a sequel it doesn't disappoint.
I just finished this series for the second time and I will probably, no I WILL listen a third time soon. I adore the characters, the dialogue, the intense sexual tension and release and the fantastic supporting characters and storylines.
Well done Ali Vali - you are my hero.
The first narrator for the first two books is Hilarie Mukavitz who did an amazing job. The rest of the series is performed by Paige McKinney and though I really enjoyed both narrators, I think Paige might have edge Hilarie out just slightly for capturing the voice of Cain and Emma
In my opinion, this book is a big step up from the first in the series.
It's not quite 4 stars for me. While I don't expect the past to magically disappear, I did feel that the mains kept having the same conversations over and over. And the dialogue felt a bit off as well - paragraphs of dialogue which isn't always realistic. This is a personal preference, so your milage may vary.
“The door that led to Cain’s heart was locked once again, but now Emma was sitting on the inside where no one could touch her.” + • + • + • +
This intriguing series continues with another entertaining story with its excellently written cops & robbers games with interesting characters & hot sex scenes. Eagerly anticipating what the next book will bring to this binge-worthy series.
I didn't think the second book was going to be better than the first... I was wrong. Like I said in my review of book one I couldn't wait to see the the development of the characters. I love the development of Emma. Now to see how these new relationships are going to turn out. I pray Muriel doesn't get caught up in book 3.
The sequel did not disappoint me. It was another book I did not want to put down. I believe this series has become one that I will re-read over again. The audiobook narration is, in my opinion, one of the best.
I have so much love for all those characters, it’s unreal. Merrick grew on me tremendously and love her being with Katlin. Emma and Cain are my heroes and their love is everything. Now Muriel? I love her, can she be happy please? Because she deserves happiness. I can’t wait to read the next one...

This series is action packed. Cain and Emma's love story continues. Fun keeping up with the characters and meeting new ones along the way. Thanks for another winner.
Book two in this series follows directly upon the close of book 1. As in book 1 ends with some ‘actions’ being taken by a rival gang. And book 2 started . . . with those same actions occurring.
There are several relationships that fluctuate in this series. Mostly involving Casey Clan members.
So – book one involved Cain and Emma circling the idea of getting back together, somewhat tentatively agreeing on that; while book two has, for the most part, moved on from that ‘tentative’ nature, and moved into ‘back together – solidly’. So, that’s one relationship.
Another involves cousin Muriel Casey and some tentative inching between her and Shelby Daniels that began in book one – very tentative, and then imploded. Implosion due completely to the part wherein Daniels is an FBI agent watching the Casey clan, while Muriel is that clan’s ‘legitimate’ representative (and, specifically, their lawyer). I was kind of hoping to see more of a connection this book, since a big deal was given to having Shelby have a point of view, but, alas, there’s that FBI thing. Though the possibility of a relationship is not dead yet.
Strangely, somewhat out of the blue, a relationship for Merrick occurred with yet another Casey cousin, this one being a ‘hidden’ cousin, a cousin that most do not know is a cousin. Both work security. For the most part, I do not have any inherent desire to have the amount of knowledge I now have about Katlin Patrick and Merrick; nor to read more about them. But they continue circling in this book. (Well, not continue, start . . and more than circling).
Wow this little bunch of words of mine came out really roughly. Like pulling teeth. Mmphs. Odd considering how I thought I was going to enter by noting that I rather like these books by Vali, and have, to a certain extent, finally found why the author is liked by so many. Instead I awkward stumble along.
Plot wise the book involves a gang war between the Casey gang and the Bracato gang. On the side are two other gangs loyal/in a good relationship with Casey; and the FBI, who are watching all of them. Somewhat ineffectively.
Fun exciting series. First book I couldn’t get myself to actually write anything. Second took me a while to get anything down. And painfully at that. Maybe by the end of the series I’ll actually write coherently. This is what the series deserves, the coherent part, since it is rather well written.
Finish reading this one at work today man an amazing book. I hate that i don't have the other three to keep on reading but still i cant wait to read them. This one was amazing in many ways. The way both Emma and Cain left there past behind and moved on and now are planing in expanding there family. The way you don't only read what happens between Emma and Cain but also, Merrick and Katlins blooming romance and Muriel and Shelby's common attraction. And there is also many death in this one, also we find out how Cains sister Marie is killed and why though we also find out who dose hurt her in the end of the first one. And he got what he deserved in my opinion.!! I really couldn't put this book down man amazing. Ali Vali always has a way of keeping me in a book long after am done with it and this ones no different. Its just amazing how by reading this i go into a world that i only can see while i read this book. I cant wait to buy the rest and finish reading this serious. I want to find out if both Cain and Emma are left alone to finally be happy with each other and there kids.!
