Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..

She also writes under the name Mikela Q. Chase

Amber Kell is one of my favorite authors ... I have read a lot of books by this author and reading other as I go along ... I absolutely enjoyed this book.

I absolutely enjoyed the scene where Colt and Zeir meet :P The scene was endearing, funny and an absolute riot.

I understood Viller and his handling of Colt and I admired the way Colt took things in his stride. Unlike a lot of insta-love and mating we see in shifter stories, this one had the lead characters take time before taking the plunge.

This is amoing hte few books I read, re-read and re-read whenever I am not in the mood for reading something new but need a little distraction :) If you haven't read it already, pick this up NOW!

GAAAAAHHHHHH! I was SUPER looking forward to this one, and I liked Zeir, but even his stupidity brought this down. Couldn't get into Cole. And the whole BS with his dad? And barely a 'you shouldn't've done that'.
I feel like he got no consequences for what could have ended up with someone dead and a whole kingdom in ruin.
And the biggest issue is, I'm not sure what could have been done different. The actions were true to the plot, characters and universe created over the books. But it made it feel junk, and for me that is a massive issue with the core of the story. Such a let down for all the awesome world building that took place.

Normally I really enjoy stories from this author and others like her but this story was just too, blah. I really wasn't involved in the story line and the characters were very flat to me. Not much happened and what little conflict there was is over so fast you barely notice it. I really wanted to like the story but just couldn't.

Mate Call is a second chance at happiness story for King Zeir. Centuries ago he met and lost his mate, only living as they hadn't bonded. He gets his chance at a bond and a mate when spacer, Colt crashes an escape pod into his rain forest. A sweet, low angst story. The last of the Dragon Men series, each book has been enjoyable.

This was such an enthralling read especially since it involves dragons. Colt crashes on the dragon planet and finds out that the king, Zeir, is his mate. The story was interesting and the characters were well done. I really enjoy this series and the dragons who find their mates.

This is actually a reread for me. I like this series but I didn't enjoy this book quite as much this time around. I probably should have rated it a 3 the first time around but I think I was looking for more substance and a stronger storyline this time around.

Cutest story...

Zeir and Colt turn out to be perfect mates, and Zeir should have been thankful that he never consummated anything with Colt's father! Without Seltin going off and exploring so he cos meet Colt's mother, Colt, Zeir's true mate, would never have existed for Zeir to claim. Fate has an awfully neat way of working herself out and it all ends well for all involved. Five stars for an entertaining read.

Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.

Colton wanted to visit the planet of Dragait, but not like this! Working as a navigator aboard an exploratory ship should have been a dream job for someone who liked to travel but getting stuck with a self absorbed, incompetent Captain who’s meddling nearly gets him killed wasn’t what he signed up for. Meeting the reclusive King Zeir almost makes up for the crash landing and subsequent injuries. Almost. Zeir has spent years mourning the loss of his mate and when a newly awakened dragon lands in his kingdom, the last thing he expects is for his own dragon to start claiming the man belongs to them. Between the surprising identity of his newest house guest and the fallout from the crash, Zeir will have to decide whether he’s willing to take a chance at finding happiness because he’ll be risking more than his heart if he does.

Oh, I can’t tell you how happy I was to finally get Zeir’s story! He’s been mentioned before in earlier books and I always wanted to see him get his happy ending after the hand that had been dealt to him. Let me start off by saying that I loved Colton! Right from the start of the book his introduction set the tone for the type of person he was and he really made an impression. I really liked that he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, despite the trouble he’d be getting into for doing so, and the fact that he took the time to do what he could to save lives despite the urgency of the situation speaks of his character. Zeir was a bit different than I’d originally pictured; more insecure in regards to his own instincts than I expected him to be, and more willing to offer Colton help than I originally thought.

There was a nice balance and compromise between them both that I liked though I do wish I’d been able to see them interacting as dragons more since it’s such an integral part of their natures. I also wish he’d spoken to Colton about his lost mate before the inevitable confrontation with Colton’s parents but I’m too disappointed with the way that worked out. There was a nice resolution to the situation that started the story (though I’m a bloodthirsty little brat and wanted to see Jael at least get punched) and all in all things ended on a high note and with a nice little happily ever after.

I love this series! You get hot men, dragons, fated mates and a fistful of happily ever afters at the end. I’ve adored every book so far and if any of the above mentioned items sound like something you’d enjoy reading, I’d recommend giving this one a look. You don’t have to read the books in order but I recommend checking them all out anyway since I’ve enjoyed every one.

Book: Mate Call
Author: Amber Kell
Rating: 4.5 Stars

Amber Kell is that author that made me fall in love with reading about dragon shifters. I remember when the first book of this series came out I was skeptical because dragons but she quickly drew me into these stories.

Colton Lanx worked as a navigator when the ship he was on crashed landed, due to the irresponsible and pigheaded captain, in the one place his father escaped from...Dragait. King Zeir is the “mad” king whose mate died and has since never gone back to his human form where the pain was too much. When he discovers a golden dragon after a pod crash landed on his land to say he is not excited is an understatement!

I’ve been wanting to read the story of the the King since I started this series and I was not disappointed. Zeir doesn’t believe that Colton is his mate just because his dragon tells him he is. He doesn’t want to go through that pain again not after the last time but he is drawn to Colton more than he likes to admit. Colton has never had his dragon before the crash so having to stay on Dragait to learn how to control him isn’t so bad but Zeir being his teacher is causing his dragon to get possessive and insisting that he is their mate.

I liked how the author made this story without a lot of strife and angst even though I am sure many of her readers expected just that. But to me it would’ve taken away from who the characters are for them to overreact or be constantly at each other's throats. I loved how Colton’s parents and the Guild that Colton worked with when his ship crashed. Her prose give you a great visual to the kingdom that King Zeir has built with his people, for his people and of course Colton’s flying lessons!

Loved this series and hope there can be more someday!

King Zeir mourns a mate who he thought was dead until Colt crashes in his kingdom. Both his and Colt's dragons insist they are mates. Zeir resists because he doesn't want to lose another mate. Eventually they have sex and his dragon appears on Colt's back proving they are mates. Zier helps Colt deal with problems from his previous life while finding out the truth of his lost mate who was never his true mate.

I really enjoyed this book. I started out by reread the first three in this series and then read this one. I was really excited when this book came out. I loved the first four in the series so was happy to get a number 5. I have enjoyed plenty of Amber Kell's series and this one is just as great as her other. I can wait to see what she puts out next.

I love all things Dragon! That includes this series. King Zeir has suffered for many years from the loss oft he man he thought was his mate. Colton is a space traveller, so like his mate it's uncanny, except more so. I wanted to smack Colton's parents upside the head at times during the later stages of the book! But all in all, I loved and recommend it.

This book brings about a lot tension on many different levels and ways. As always leaves you wanting more and looking for the publication date of the next book in the series. Because there has to be a follow-up!

This was a very low key story to read. While it included every emotion, the way it was written left each feeling a little subdued. It was strange to find Zeir willing to mate Colt after what happened with the man he thought was his first mate.

Amber always has a hit

This was my fourth reread of the Dragon mate series . I love this series so much: for the humor , for the love, for the happily ever after and of course for the shifters. Thank you Amber for these wonderful comfort reads.
