This book was very short for $3 and lacked character development. It was vague and filled in details like it was an afterthought. The characters were likeable, just vague. The book felt vague.
This was a great read. I LOVE Debbie Macomber's writing. I could not put this book down once I started to read it. I read the book in one afternoon. Kudos to Debbie Macomber.
Debbie Macomber packs a lot into this short story. I was captivated from the beginning. It took me a few hours and was hard pressed to put my tablet down. It is an ebook.
I'm usually a great fan of Debbie Macomber's books, but this one didn't work for me, and not just because it was a short story. I think the plot had a lot of potential, and from the synopsis I expected something a lot different from what I got. I found the characters inconsistent and underdeveloped, and some details just didn't match. It was odd to have a twenty three year old woman saying she's gone too long without a man in her life, it was annoying that Sean kept referring to Hilary as a débutante and it was even more annoying that he was intent on controlling her life even when he was telling her he didn't 't want to be involved and was leaving in a few weeks. Sadly, the book is also really outdated by now and I think it would have been worth updating it a bit before publishing it on Kindle. The only really positive aspect of The Apartment is that it's so short you read it in one sitting...
Hilary and Sean were very flat characters. The attraction seemed to be built on nothing at all and progressed like a switch being flipped on. There were no other characters featured, besides two short conversations with her Mother, and no sense of setting (Portland, OR). The scene with Sean and Hilary's mother was pathetically contrived, just had me saying, 'yeah, right.' Ms. Macomber was a very lazy storyteller. I would have given it just one star except it didn't make me angry or want to throw it, it just made me yawn. Although, it does annoy me how much money this author is paid for very little effort. I'll forget about it quickly, but hopefully will remember not to read any more of this author in the future. There's no "there" there.
Rad this because it was a Debbie Macomber book....or short story. While it is a sweet story, I think it is obvious it is an early story from this author. You can see the early development of the characters she would later feature in her series.
A quick little love story, it is predictable in its finality. True to Macomber, the "falling in love" is innocent.....one realizes the heat between the couple but it is not described in detail the way one might find in some love stories.
I guessed I should have known by the title, but I was expecting a little more subdued/diluted romance from this author. Cute plot, okay story. Hope you all enjoyed it more than me. When reading books, it's a lot more vivid and real for me, so I try to keep it as PG-13 or under as possible. Otherwise, decent book.
Profanity: Little to none (PG) Romance: PG-13 ( They talk about sex very openly and at one point they were getting real frisky lol) Drugs/Alcohol: A little drinking (PG) Religion: None
I'm a huge Debbie Macomber fan, and when I saw this book, I felt I needed to add it to my Debbie shelf. I just read it. I'm terribly disappointed. Several times in the first few chapters the repetitiveness bogged down my focus on the story. It felt rushed and unfinished in other places... Nothing like Ms. Macomber's other books. It's not her best.
This is a short story and another fun read from Debbie Macomber. This is about two people who end up renting the same apartment and try to make it work among one another till they get their rent deposit and a month's rent. While they start being civil to one another, sparks fly. I love this kind of feel-good stories.
A very interesting love story of the twists and turns of these two young adults who are completely opposite in every way, music styles friends, and ways of life, together for six weeks.
This is definitely more of a novella than novel. Only 79 pages and ten chapters. Sweet innocent story of Hilary moving away from her mother to live on her own ended up in a rented home with another renter Sean. They both ended up renting same apartment by accident.
They were two people that opt to live to gather in an apartment, thinking they wouldn't fall in love. It backed fired on both of them. This book is a good one for anyone to read.
I have always enjoyed Debbie Macomber's books and this won was no exception. It is one of her earlier books. It is also a very quick read. the type of book that you may want to bring to the pool and you will finish in one setting.
This is, like all of Debbie Macomber’s books, sweet and lovely. It is a Kindle single, so it’s a super quick read, but it stirred up a lot of emotions in its discussion of mothers and daughters and letting go. It sure made me miss my own Mom.
A book that kept your interest in what was going to happen next. Misunderstanding and misreading can cause hurt feeling and not give you an accurate picture of things in your life. Enjoyed it as I always enjoy Debbie Macomber's books.
I'm usually a fan of Debbie Macomber's books, but this one didn't work for me, and not just because it was a short story. I don't mind short stories. I think the plot had a lot of potential, and from the synopsis I expected something a lot different from what I got. Especially from Debbie.
I found the characters inconsistent and underdeveloped, and some details just didn't match. It was odd to have a twenty three year old woman saying she's gone too long without a man in her life, it was annoying that Sean kept referring to Hilary as a debutante and it was even more annoying that he was intent on controlling her life even when he was telling her he didn't 't want to be involved and was leaving in a few weeks.
The only really positive aspect of The Apartment is that it's so short you read it in one sitting...
Few funny parts. Enjoyable read between Sean who has lead military routine life for years. Only to fall in love with his inexperienced roommate leaving home.
Pretty disappointed with this book. It was not one of the better books from the prolific, Western Washington writer. It seems like one of her interns wrote it in the author’s style.
