Lindsey's bad day doesn't end as bad as a day with a broken heel, a slightly disgusting encounter with an equally disgusting–and married–work mate, and an another overlooked promotion should. She finally fights for her right and is given a chance to prove herself as a journalist in the male-infested publishing company––get an exclusive interview with the reclusive best-selling author, Jackson King.

So off to Florida she goes. Her best friend's fiancé gives her the key to his place, and she stays there, not knowing she'll have an unexpected room mate, Jayson. They both have jobs to do, and after a terrible first meeting, they agree to co-exist as long as they stay out of each other's business.

The story had potential but sadly it fell flat for me. The book was short, so it was (kind of) understandable it had a fast pace, but it was hard to get attached to Lindsey and Jayson's romance when one moment they were acquaintances at best, then lovers the next.

I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again; it irks me when conflict is caused by miscommunication. It's another reason why I wasn't attached to the romantic aspect in Letters from Jayson; there were a lot of secrets untold until too late. I didn't get Jayson's reason for not disclosing what he should have.

At first, I really liked Lindsey, but I found some of her reactions too much. She came off as juvenile and whiny, getting offended at the simplest of things.

I don't really know what to think of Jayson. He was charming sometimes, but he was too hot-and-cold for me.

There wasn't enough momentum to ease in their backstories. It bothered me that they gave out their backstories just like that to an acquaintance they just met a week ago, especially for Jayson.

Letters from Jayson had potential, but sadly there were a lot of things that hindered me from truly liking it.

About: Letters from Jayson is a fiction novel written by Amy Hale. It was self published on 7/24/16, paperback, 192 pages. The genre is romantic comedy.

My Experience: I started reading Letters from Jayson on 3/10/17 and finished it on 3/11/17. This book is an excellent read! I could hardly put it down! In this book, readers will follow the point of views of Lindsey Sparks, a columnist who struggles for a promotion in a male dominant newspaper company. Even though she has a journalism degree, she got passed over on jobs that she’s well qualified for. One day she decided she has had enough and confronted her boss even if it means losing her job. Her boss worried about Lindsey’s threats and gave her a tough assignment out of state chasing after an author for an interview even knowing that the author is notorious for avoiding the media. While the new scenery is a welcome break and the need to prove herself is greater, Lindsey encountered a few difficulties.

Another point of view is Jayson Conway, who holes himself up and away from people working on meeting deadlines and hiding away a couple of secrets of his own. He was upset at first when the living situations got mixed up where he has to share the beach house with Lindsey. He eventually agrees to let her stay after the two settled on a few ground rules. One of them is to communicate by letters because he’s often busy and doesn’t want to be interrupted. Hence the title of the book, letters from Jayson.

I like reading this book and especially love it that the author included an epilogue! It wraps up everything nicely in a bow. I like reading their letters to each other. I like the easy humor and definitely the resistance about whether or not to have the hots for the person who gets on your nerve. The supporting characters are great players in this book. I like Whitney, Lindsey’s BFF and all things goes on in her life. She’s a good friend. Kevin is okay too but I don’t know about Shawn. Is there a guy that do what he does? I haven’t read many self-published titles, but this book is definitely a hidden gem! I highly recommend everyone to read!

Pro: epilogue, couldn’t put down, fast pace, page turner, independent women, humor, romance, more than 1 POV, friendship,

Con: none

I rate it 5 stars!

***Disclaimer: Many thanks to the author, Amy Hale, for the opportunity to read and review. Please assured that my opinions are honest.

While reading this book, I can't help but compare this to the Korean TV series Full House. The similarity in both the male and female protagonists sharing the same house and that's where their love story began is what came up to my mind, that is why I compared this novel to the latter.

In spite of that similarity, this book really entertained me because of how funny and cute Lindsay and Jayson's love story is. Probably my only complaint is that Jayson's letters are few, and I think the author should have added a lot more.

I tried this book on a whim because it was listed as a romantic comedy and I am always searching for a good rom com. Well, I’m a bit disappointed because I didn’t really find the humor in this book. However, I did enjoy the book.
Lindsey is a news reporter on the search for a big story. Her goal is to land an exclusive interview with Jackson King, a famous author who refuses interviews. She temporarily moves into a beach house to get her story, only to find out that the beach house was also loaned out to a recluse named Jayson. They both find themselves in this weird predicament where they have to share the beach house. Soon, they find themselves connecting through letters and they learn there is a fine line between love and hate.
I really liked the premise of this book about how two strangers meet. They initially both find each other frustrating, but I think it was beautiful to watch them connect through letters. It’s a bit old school since no one writes letters anymore…maybe that’s why I loved the concept so much. I actually wish there were more letters in the book.
Jayson was a total grouch monster, but he’s charming in his own way. I liked Lindsey too, but I did think she overreacted on several of the issues. My main complaint is that while I liked the buildup in their relationship, I felt their relationship was just barely beginning and then all of sudden he was saying he loved her. I guess I wanted to see more development or time together before the big LOVE word. Anyhow, I did enjoy the story. I liked the plot about Jayson’s secret identity. The tone of this book is more contemporary romance instead of romantic comedy. I would read it going in with that mindset to avoid any disappointment. Happy Reading!

This is a cute romantic comedy about two strangers who have to share (read refuse to give up) a beach house and what ensues. I took to Lindsey right away. She was a confident female journalist stuck in a job with a bunch of sexist males. I do not know why she put up with their sexual harassment as long as she did. That seemed completely out of character, but I just let it go. Jayson, I had a harder time liking. He was charming and funny in his letters, but in person he was a brute. It got better as time went on, but you knew he was keeping secrets that were going to crush Lindsey.

Altogether, I really enjoyed the book. Something about it just worked for me. They tried to give both characters tragic backstories that were never really realized, but I think only one of them was needed and that was only needed as a plot device. Could the plot have been stronger? Definitely. That being said I still enjoyed it.

3.5 ★★★

A Kevin realmente llegó a disgustarme.

Had me guessing right 'til the end

This story hit it off right from the beginning with Lindsey, a journalist, having a terrible day. Her ex can't stop calling her, and because of his unwelcome 'sexts' she didn't get much sleep. Could things get any worse? Well, that question may have been better left un-asked: her irritation, and fatigue seep in and she finds herself severely damaging a colleague's nether regions. That, and she signs herself up for a big, but not easy, win: to secure an interview with a hugely successful, but mysterious, author the public eye has never seen. This man takes care to avoid the media, so Lindsey is not at all welcome.

Too bad, Lindsey is up for the challenge-even if it's only to prove the misogynistic jerks, at her office, wrong. She hates her job, and this opportunity could score her a lucrative position. Now...if only she could get her interview.

Along the way, in her quest, she meets Jay, a total stranger in the kitchen of her temporary home. They are a constant source of one another's frustration: he's in her space, and she's in his. Then, she meets Kevin, the man who could be her only ticket to meeting the author, they seem to be hitting it off, he's good, friendly, considerate. He's a fine man, but why then does she want to get closer to the stranger with too many secrets, an ever-changing personality, and a habit of leaving her quirky letters (which I loved) under her door?

I know this is an inadequate description, there's a lot I've left out: but, give me credit, a lot goes on! Certainly had me guessing, trying to piece things together, and there were some parts I totally saw coming. Other bits were just guesses, but I liked the romantic comedy nature to this book. It was well written, bits of it were cliché but it came together pretty well.

Perhaps my favourite thing about this book is that the love interests are not completely perfect, nor are they completely villainous.  It made things more real, and interesting: there was conflict as opposed to 'walking on eggshells' under the guise of peaceful harmony and co existence. Jayson actually reminded me of the Beast, in Beauty and the Beast, because of all his grumbling and protectiveness. Excuse the comparison, I'm just super excited for the film release!

Only thing I had difficulty accepting was that Lindsey was okay with Jay's intervention in her career life, he improved things but it wasn't his place to do so. This goes against the character we first see, Then there was how she was assaulted, nearly taken advantage of, after which she just crawls into another man's arms. At the risk of sounding judgemental, this seemed foolish considering we learn her to possess a fairly rational mind. (I kind of try to judge characters in a story to avoid judging real people- so excuse my observation, I just had to give voice to it.)

This book was a lot like The Holiday (2006) starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. As well as, Debbie Macomber's Trading Christmas (2011). I guess I'm a girl who knows her movies ;)

I received this book through NetGalley.

Letters From Jayson, my first book by the author. It was a ok book, not entirely my cup of tea, to be honest. But I liked it a bit more after I hit 50-60% mark in the book. Probably because the MCs interacted more and banter with each other.

I felt the book to be forced in some places, the connection between Jayson and Lindsey was nowhere to be found, and several issues was left unsolved and others was just magical solved behind the scenes.

Overall, I would recommend this book. It would make a great beach read.

Letters From Jayson is heartfelt comedy about finding love and forgiveness in the midst of chaos.

Review:

This was probably the cutest love story I've ever read. Lindsey is sick of the men in her job looking down at her and using inappropriate advances to keep her tame. So she blows up on her boss and threatens to sue for sexual harassment. Her boss, trying to keep his own nose clean gives her a big task of getting an interview with a famous reclusive author. If she can get the interview, her luck will change.

So Lindsey sets off for Florida, armed with keys to a friend's beach house, ready to make the interview happen. But what happens when she hits a few bumps along the way? Mainly Jayson... the guy also staying in her beach house.

It wasn't surprising or anything. I guessed right away who the reclusive author was, but regardless of predictably I still enjoyed it. I couldn't stop reading as each chapter progressed.

The epilogue was probably the cutest part of all. Everything sealed up nicely with a neat bow. I look forward to checking out some of Amy's other works.

This was a cute read for me. I enjoyed the story line. The characters were quirky and story followed quickly. I thought the notes that Jayson and Lindsay were funny and sweet.

Lindsay has been in a rut at her job. She is a writer yet her employer refuses to give her anything but fluff reporting even though she has spoken up with new ideas for the company. While not receiving credit for them. She has been over looked one too many times. She has had enough of the males getting all the good jobs. As she storms into her bosses office to explain this, she is given the chance of a lifetime to get an exclusive interview with author Jackson King. But she has to find the recluse man.

Jayson is just trying to get a deadline meet when he realizes that he is not alone in the beach house that should have been all his. What in the hell is he going to do with a woman here? Ask her to leave that is what. But when the beautiful lady explains that she is best friend's with his brother's fiance, she calls him Jay, he does nothing to tell her any different. Why not?

As the two of them continue to set ground rules on what can and can not happen in the house, Lindsay finds that she enjoys her banner with Jayson. Jayson as well seems to get distracted from his deadline with his thoughts consuming him of Lindsay. But Lindsay is here to work as is Jayson.

When Lindsay finds her in into meeting Jackson King, she is determined to get the interview and show her boss that she can do any job he sets her out to do. But when Jackson seems to keep evading a meeting, he is rather fond of his privacy, Lindsay starts to lose hope. She will have to go back to her job and hope for the best.

Jayson knows the truth about Jackson King. But will he be able to explain it all to Lindsay or will he continue to omit the truth? But after they both give into the attraction between each other, things seems to be better between the two of them or is it? Once morning comes, its a different story. Jayson is back to his old rude way; Lindsay has an author to find.

When things turn worse for Lindsay, she has no choice but to go back home without her interview. Jayson is not sure how he feels about her leaving. Once she is back home and figuring out how to make things work, thoughts of Jayson continue to plague her. She knows the truth about Jackson King. How could she have not realized? But she misses Jayson.

As letters seems to be Jayson and Lindsay's thing, when she spots some at her best friend's house, she knows what she must do. Can she win back a chance with Jayson with just a sheet of paper with her words? Or will he decide that he likes his life of solitude?

I wasn't overly wowed by this book. The concept is great, it's fairly original and the characters had a lot of promise. Unfortunately, for me, I just couldn't get passed the dialogue. The writing seemed very old and matronly. Not too many people in this age range use the word "cad" to describe a horrible person. I'm very big on realistic dialogue so that has the ability to knock off some stars for me.

The story itself was good, though. I could see how Lindsey is a fun character and how Jayson could be interesting. Unfortunately I just don't think it was executed right. There was something missing from the dynamic of the two MCs. I don't think their relationship was developed very well and I would have liked to have seen more interaction between the two of them. I would have even been fine with more letters between them given that the title of the book is Letters from Jayson.

Kevin felt like he wasn't very well thought out. He was written as a really likeable guy in the beginning

I found the arguments between Lindsay and Jayson to be pretty juvenile. I don't know why he didn't just

The ending was pretty abrupt and the epilogue is probably over a year later. Everything wraps up in an extreme case of Happily Ever After.

Overall, I'm not so sure I'd recommend this book. It's getting two stars instead of one because, as I said before, I really liked the concept of the book. Sadly, for me, I didn't like how matronly the characters felt or how cheesy they all were and that is a big negative for me.

Letters from Jayson is an epic comedy romance story. When reading this story right from the beginning it captivated me. One minute I was laughing so hard I was crying to trying and guess what is going to happen next because I needed to know right then.

Lindsey is one of the main characters that is strong and sticks up for herself. She is at her wit’s end with all the older male population that she works with. Lindsey is seriously thinking about the oncoming harassment charges that she should file. She had it with all of the testosterone around work that she took an assignment to get away from all of that. Come to find out she ended up going to a beautiful beach front property that was perfect but instead she ran smack dab in the middle of a one male that was full of testosterone named Jayson.

Jayson was a stick to yourself, do not bug me or I will go irate kind of person. Then he can be sweet and decent as well. I guess it depends on the day of the week that you want to stick around to be near Jayson. There are so many sides to Jayson that you want to smack him to hug him.

Lindsay and Jayson come to an understanding and they both are needing to stay in the house to get work done and they agree to stay out of each others way. The banter that both of them have together has so much humor in it that it leaves you wanting more. They leave each other letters because they are not wanting to be distracted but in the long run they end up being completely distracted by one another. Who wouldn’t with those two. This story is a must read and leaves me wanting more books from Amy.

*I was given a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.***

Lindsey couldn't catch a break at work. She worked in an office where she was often degraded and never felt she got what she deserved. When she had finally had enough, she let the manager know about it. With that, she was given an assignment that no one could ever complete: interview the illusive author Jackson King. This causes her to have to take up residence at her best friend's fiance's home on the beach, thinking she will also have time to refresh. Only, there is someone who is already there.

Jayson needed time away to get work done, alone, secluded. He thinks he can get this at a fabulous beach home. When Lindsey shows up in his house, their worlds collide. They agree to make the most of a bad situation and both stay in the house. However, Jayson is holding on to a secret, and Lindsey is not getting any closer to her interview with her author.

What an amazing story! I loved the way this story was told from a narrator's point of view, so we get all points of view at once. When you want to know Lindsey and Jayson's deepest thoughts, Amy Hale does a fabulous job of telling it through the letters that they pass back and forth. This book had comedy, unrequited love, passion. It was so full of everything you would want in a book! I adored the way Hale wrote this story and kept the pace of the book moving. I think I read it in 2 days, simply because I didn't want to put it down! The flow of the book was great, the characters beyond believable. I sincerely enjoyed this read and look forward to other books from Amy Hale!

Letters to Jayson by Amy Hale
I received this book for the author for an honest review.
*Laughing super hard* OMG I freaking love this series~!! The banter and comedy is just too much. Its real life bantering that I can see my husband having or banter with my bestie Melinda too.
I fell in love with Lindsey reading Whitney’s novel and couldn’t wait to read her book. She is a total character and pretty much tells it like it is whether you want to hear it or not. She gets the chance from her magazine to try and meet a famous author. The magazine wants her to try and get an interview from a man notorious for NOT doing interviews. If she can pull this off she will get a much deserved promotion.
Lindsey gets her friends keys to his Florida home and is shocked when the friend’s brother is also there. He wasn’t supposed to be in town but they make an uneasy agreement to share the space. When the agreement is made, Jay calls his friend and we learn secret number 1 of a few to come.
The couple are hilarious. The banter made me giggle a lot. The letters the couple begin to write each other are what makes the book. However when in person, The hot and cold of Jayson to Lindsey made me wanna kick him in the butt but then we get to figuring out MORE secrets he has annnnd we can kinda see why.
I loved this story and can’t wait for more from these characters because they crack me up.

Jayson really was not the Jayson, Linsey is was assuming. But when Jayson writes hand written letter to Lindsey, they slowly find each other tolerable.
Each letters are funny and full of banter and jokes. Jayson is not really pleasant to be around but he is finding himself worrying and caring about Lindsey. He is slowly opening up to her and they enjoy
each other’s company but Jayson has big secret that he can’t share with anyone.
When Linsey is adamant to interview Jackson King and she will do anything to get that interview done. She meets Kevin, who works with Kevin. He appears nice but he has different motivation toward Lindsey.
Will Linsey get an interview with Jackson King?
Jayson’s letters are really great and total opposite of how he behaves. Lindsey is fun and full of energy. I really loved them both.
I really enjoyed reading this story and letters were great.
It was one of my favorite book during the summer.

If I could give Letters From Jayson more than five stars, I would. I totally and completely loved this well-written book, and I read it from cover to cover in less than a day. Author Amy Hale's plot is easy to understand, unpredictable, and her characters are well-defined.

Lindsey is a journalist that covers the society pages for Indiana Comfort Magazine. Due to her gender and the sexist men that run the publication, she is always overlooked for a promotion. She is also the subject of daily sexual harassment. She finally loses her cool when the mail-room guy is promoted to features columnist. Threatening her sexist boss with a harassment suit, she gets the chance she needs to prove herself. Her assignment is to locate and interview the current best-selling author of spy thrillers, a recluse that refuses to do personal interviews. Little does Lindsey know that the author is closer than she thinks, and he is hot, fun to talk to, and ends up truly caring about her safety.

This was such a fun read! The two main characters have a love/hate relationship and their banter is quite clever. They become roommates for a week, and they spar, flirt, and communicate via short notes shoved under their respective bedroom doors. There are many laugh-out-loud moments and humorous situations. Overall, this is a terrific read that twists and turns in all the right places.

I think this book is labelled wrong as I didn't particularly find it funny. I would classify it as a chic lit book.

I was a little disappointed at how it felt like the relationship of the characters were getting together as one minute they didn't like each other and then the next wam they were in love. I would have liked to have seen the development a bit more.

That said I really did enjoy this book. I sometimes enjoy the fact that you know exactly what is going to happen in a book before the characters do. It stops you from thinking too much and sometimes that is exactly what you need.

I always love books which breaks from the norm. This book broke away from the norm with the notion of letters. I loved these parts and wished there was more of them. I love old fashioned love letter or letters of any kind. It's always a magical feeling when one arrives through the door.

The characters in this book were fun, feisty and interesting. I also liked the writing style of this book.

The plot was fun and enjoyable too.

Thank you to NetGalley, Amy Hale and publishers for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review

Happy reading everyone

When Lindsey gets tired of the pompous jerks at work and being continually slighted for better jobs because she is a woman she strikes back and confronts her boss who is quick to give Lindsey a seemingly awesome assignment. However, Lindsey knows that obtaining an interview with an elusive novelist who will not be seen in public is a mere setup for failure and a means to an end- her termination.

Dead set on not failing, Lindsey heads to Florida to track down Jackson King. When she discovers she has an unexpected tenant sharing the beach house she borrowed Lindsey must convince "Jay" to let her stay.

Jayson Conway is hiding out in Florida trying to complete his latest project and doesn't have the time or energy to welcome Lindsey into the beach house he is staying at- frankly he doesn't want her there! These two immediately having the sweetest, cutest banter. Throw in the letters they start writing one another and slipping under the door it's adorable funny.

Lindsey is an ambitious reporter for her hometown magazine. Sadly, her hard work is thwarted at every turn by a misogynistic boss and his cronies. In one last effort (or impossible task from her boss), Lindsey heads to Florida to interview a reclusive mystery writer that has never been photographed or interviewed.

In a weird twist of only Hollywood or romance novels, confusion ensues when Lindsey finds someone already staying in the guest house that she was promised and assumes it is the owner's brother. Jayson, the houseguest, is actually unbeknownst to Lindsey, the mysterious writer. The comedy of errors and romance that develops is both funny and at times disheartening as the deception causes what appears to be the demise of the romance.

Ms. Hale creates characters with depth and humor, so it is easy to like both Jayson (despite his deception and abruptness at times) and Lindsey, who exhibits tenacity and determination. The plot moves quickly and keeps your interest.

Netgalley Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lindsey is very tired of her job, of her life, of everything that is so wrong. When she gets the chance to interview one of the most secret authors out there, she takes some time away to prepare for the big day.

But in the beach house she borrows from a friend... there’s someone already. And from day one their personalities clash.

For better or for worse?

If you’re in need of a light read, try this one! It’s a sweet and light romance, and I was unable to put it down.

It’s very easy to read, with great characters and an entertaining plot. I loved the split perspective between Jayson and Lindsey, as well as the hopeless/helpless feeling I got from them.

It was fun, funny, slow-burning and very satisfying in the end.

Letters From Jayson was itself a bit light, and sometimes rushed, but enjoyable. The book also does a great job of finding a good balance between romance and comedy. There were a few laugh out loud moments for me here and there. I liked the characters enough,my favorite was definitely Jayson especially when we got to learn more about his character and why he didn't like getting interviewed.Overall if you’re looking for a light, fun and sweet read, I definitely recommend this!

I received an ARC in exchange for a review.
Amy Hale is a genius. Letters from Jayson was phenomenal. The characters are very well written. The dynamics between Lindsey and Jayson pull you in. I found myself laughing and crying throughout the whole book. It's everything you'd want in a Romantic Comedy. I highly recommend you read it! This a book I wouldn't mind rereading a couple hundred times!

Another swoonworthy read from Hale

I have been eagerly awaiting this book since reading Catching Whitney! It was totally worth stalking the authors social media. Surprisingly, Lindsey and Jay were just as dear to me as Whitney and Aiden - not an easy feat as the characters were very different. Hale writes great romance that is steamy but on the cleaner side.

I devoured this book in one afternoon!
