The voice in these stories really draws you in quickly and is entertaining to follow. Keres certainly doesn't suffer fools and that comes out strong through the way she narrates her story. I also enjoyed how all three stories were full of strong women characters that didn't wait for the men in their lives to help them. The backdrop of these stories is also painted really well. The club, Dante's Inferno, in The Witch story is particularly rich in description and again, pulls you into the story. I think the Sin Eater was my favorite of the three because it's so haunting and stuck with me after reading it. Fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel would love these stories.
The first story had a kind of tone that pacing that I really enjoyed, and I would have happily read a full-length book with just more little stories like it. A semi reluctant crossroad demon with a flair for the dramatic and an interesting dynamic with the "big man" tell me that doesn't sound like it would make for a fantastic serial! 5 stars.
The second story was interesting enough, I wasn't super fan of the dynamic between the characters and of the pacing but I liked that the whole thing with the coven wasn't drawn out. 4 stars.
The last story, I liked the general idea but honestly it was more of a romance than anything else and that's just not something I'm interested in. No rating.
I was asked by Tracy to read Sonder as a beta read back in the middle of May 2016. If you like all things spiritual, dystopian and bordering on the interesting but weird then this book is most definitely for you. It is a trilogy of stories which are all brilliantly written by the Talented Miss Cross. You have to read them think about each story then go back and read them again as they are written in such a way to make you question what you have read and think about the storylines. Each individual story I found was immensely thought provoking in its own individual way. Miss Cross has a passion for books, writing the written word and all things spiritual and psychic, and you can see this in her both in her story settings and characters which have both been well thought out to engage readers in the way that the stories are meant to do. I have to say even though I was a beta for this trilogy of stories it really made me think about certain aspects of the stories so much that I did return and do a re-read because I wanted to. Enjoyed it immensely and will be looking for future books written by this talented lady.
