Just as recently-single Bitsie George is settling into her new life as a professional baker, her too-handsome-to-be-real shop assistant Jack gives his grandfather a dozen cherry chocolate cupcakes to share with his friends at Shady Grove retirement home. When one of the cupcakes turn out to be laced with a potentially-fatal dose of Grandpa Roscoe’s heart medicine and his romantic rival for the affections of Miss Lavinia Fay ends up in the hospital, Grandpa Roscoe becomes a prime suspect. But was it really Jack’s grandfather who poisoned that cupcake, or is there someone else with murder on his mind? It’s up to Bitsie to find the real culprit before Jack’s grandfather gets arrested, or, worse yet, the poisoner strikes again.
This novella-length culinary cozy will take a reader of average speed about 2 hours to finish.
Bitsie George is busy with her new bakery and her handsome assistant. When they visit his grandfather, Roscoe, in a local retirement home, they bring a dozen of Bitsie’s delicious chocolate cherry cupcakes.
They are stunned when Roscoe’s arch rival eats a cupcake and has to be taken to the hospital, they discover the treat was filled with poison. The poison happens to be Roscoe’s medication. Nobody believes Roscoe would try to kill the man but the evidence shows otherwise. Bitsie is determined to find out the truth - not only to prove Roscoe’s innocence but to prove her shop has nothing to do with the incident.
This is a short cozy mystery that can be read in a couple of hours. I do enjoy these short reads. It’s the second of a series and I suggest you start at the beginning to learn how it all began. I feel like I get to know the characters better with each book.
The mystery is well thought out with many clues along the way. I enjoyed uncovering the truth with Bitsie. There’s also a romance brewing for Bitsie. It’s a cute cozy mystery. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Another quick, cute read following Bitsie and her delicious bakery products. Once again, someone dies because of a poison laced cupcake...this time cherry chocolate. Bitsie has to track down what happened so that her shop isn't closed down.
My 2nd read by this author. The main characters are likeable and the story flowed fairly well. But weeks later I couldn't remember what the story was about. I'm going to read at 1 or 2 more of the series to see how it develops.
Bitsie George is newly single and settling into her new life as a baker owning her own bakery shop. And her too handsome to be real assistant Nick takes a box of Cherry Chocolate cupcakes to his grandfather in Shady Grove Retirement Home so he could share them with his friends. When one of the cupcakes turns out to be laced with a almost fatal dose of Grandpa Roscoe's heat medicine, and his romantic rival for miss Lavinia Fay's affections ends up in the hospital, Grandpa Roscoe becomes a prime suspect. But was it really Roscoe who poisoned that cupcake? Or is there someone else with murder on his mind? It's up to Bitsie to find the culprit before Roscoe gets arrested, or worse yet, the poisoner strikes again!! This audiobook is by Celia Kinsey writing as Abby Byne and is the 2nd in the Killer Cupcakes series. The version I listened too was done by an AI Narrator so it sounds slightly robotic which is kind of off putting, but the book itself is a quick read, short 71 or 81 pages in kindle form. It is a good book and I will be looking for more books in this series.
Bitsie says that her and Jack are friends, then she pictures him at eighty, and growing old with him. Taking cupcakes to his father, for one of his ladies. To getting a call that a guy his father plays cards with, collapsed after starting to eat a cupcake she had brought . Someone had tampered with the cupcakes. The drama of the people living at Ruby Sheers sounds like it is never dull, but why was one set on murder. Jack declared his love so now what is Betsie going to do.Cute mystery ams getting to know the people living there made an enjoyable story to read.
Not as good as the first book. Have read several with similar storyline and this one just needed a bit more tweaking to build the suspense. Why does one of the seniors seem to be on someone's hit list? Can she sort out the clues and save her assistant's father from being charged? The romance also seems to have hit a bit of a snag when the assistant's ex wife comes to visit. A good read but not brilliant.
An easy reading short story. Bitsie is falling for her assistant Nick. They take his grandfather a dozen cupcakes at the retirement home. Then another resident is rushed to the hospital after he eats a cupcake that has been poisoned. She jumps in to try and solve the mystery when Nicks grandfather is arrested for attempted murder. A surprise ending and a fun read.
Old people drama and lots of sweets! I thought this novel was cute and the clues to the ending lead me directly where I thought they would. I definitely want to read more murder mysteries in this series, Bitsie is an awesome character I want to know more about.
This book was fun and a good cozy mystery. I really liked the new characters and Bitsy’s abilities as a amateur detective are better than in the first book of the series. I found the storyline a little predictable though.
The second book in this series by Ms. Byne is another winner! From the first page to the last she delivers an attention keeping, spell binding tale as tasty as her scrumptious bakery delights.
