This volume of short stories was a little disappointing. I'd rate most of the stories at three stars, as although they were well written, they were a little unsatisfying and just didn't grab me. I would give several stories four stars, but two stories only rate two stars. The first of these was the longest and central story. It would appeal to lovers of high fantasy, which isn't my genre of choice. I struggled to finish it, and indeed, it almost stopped me persisting with the book. These tales show a breadth of imagination and a large range of styles. I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys speculative short stories.
3.5 rounded up to 4. Most of the stories were about 3 stars with a couple being 2 and 4 stars and maybe 3 at 5 stars. The Escort by J.M. Hackman was hauntingly beautiful - no wonder it won first place in the contest! The other excellent story was Changeling by Janet Sketchley - so creative with a perfect ending! So it's a mixed group of stories but the good ones make it worth reading!
This is an anthology of sci-fi/fantasy stories. There is something for everyone in here. The stories in this anthology are about escaping. I found most of them very engaging and well written. I would encourage the writers to make some into full novels.
How fun! I didn't realize how many Realm Maker authors I knew or what amazing authors they are. I read everyone I knew, then went back and read several from authors I didn't know and have absolutely no complaints. This was a great collection!
So there's this writers conference, it's called Realm Makers. It's for authors of speculative fiction. One year they decided to create a speculative fiction anthology. One rule the story had to be about Escaping from something. Realm Makers+Escapes=Realmscapes.
I have to admit the anthology turned out amazing. (Though I might be a bit biased.)
If you are like me and have a taste for everything speculative then this anthology offers a wide range of stories to keep you entertained. It has everything, Science fiction, high fantasy, a little horror, flash fiction even a Novelette.
RealmScapes, published by Brimstone Fiction, an imprint of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas, is a fine collection of Christian sci-fi and fantasy fiction. The umbrella term is “speculative fiction,” yet the thoughtful and wildly imagined stories present solemn hints of truth. If you need a quick fix of Christian escapism, these are some of the stories to get you there. Inventive, humorous, and sometimes shocking, these seventeen adventures will blast great amounts of satisfaction your way. Highly recommended.
This is a great anthology for sci fi and fantasy readers alike. Some stories were faster paced than others but they were all well written and had their own unique story worlds. My favorites had to be Time to Wake Up and The Dragon Hotel for two very different reasons - one is sci fi the other faith-filled fantasy. The other stories were good too and worth the read, those two just really stood out to me. If you like unique voices and a mix of stories then you'll enjoy reading this anthology! It's great to read a story at a time for quick reads while you wait at a doctor's office or before bed!
A fun read! The stories are varied and interesting. I enjoyed reading it and I'm not just saying that because I'm one of the authors (Bipedal Idiots - if you don't like what's for dinner, help it escape).
An uneven blend of Christian spec fiction. Some stories, such as Ben Wolf's, were excellent. Others seemed to stop without resolution. Several would have benefited from tighter editing.
