Since they were 14 years old, they knew that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. He would be the hotshot star NFL quarterback and she would be the sexy physician making sure he stayed strong and at the ready. After he’s chosen first in the NFL draft, his new manager dumps her for him, over the phone, absolutely shattering her world. Ten years later, Malik Cooper, now a Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the New York Kings, suffers a devastating injury that shakes up his whole world. Dr. Jillian Peters is all grown up and operating a successful medical practice that keeps her busy enough to push the pains of the past, behind her. Work is her whole world and she avoids watching football, generally pretending that Malik never existed – until his global newsmaking injury forces them both to take stock of their lives. Malik heads to his hometown, to heal and make some decisions about his future, away from the craziness in the big city. A chance meeting with Jillian, their first since the day she was dumped by his manager, turns both their worlds upside down. Malik is determined to right his wrongs with Jillian, but she doesn’t believe she’ll ever be able to trust him, again. Will Malik prove her wrong or is the allure of the fast life too much for the international heartthrob to walk away from?

Pretty good!

As I began to read this book, I was thinking nope, this is not for me. But as I kept reading, I actually started to enjoy it. Malik and Jillian were childhood sweethearts whose relationship ended because of Malik's immaturity. But he found his way back to her, and I loved the way he did it. This is first book that I've read by Ms. James, but it won't be the last. Good book!

I chose this book as one of my summer reads because the reviews were stellar. However, I was very disappointed with the storyline. It was so unrealistic in my opinion, and because of it, it took me much longer to finish than I had anticipated. The main female character was portrayed as a very weak individual who came off as needy and a little desperate. Very clingy also. I like to read stories that at least gives me the impression that wow, I can see this really happening. I didn't get that with this book at all. The tip of the iceberg was the grammatical errors throughout the book. That alone is bad, but add a horrible storyline to that, and it's a major fail.

Very cliche

I got to 12% off this book and just couldn't do it. It's so cliche and some of the language just doesn't fit the characters. He's a guy who did a woman wrong but he's living the good life, sexin everything that moves meanwhile, homegirl hasn't had a meaningful relationship in 10 years and is still hung up over him. Ten years!? Sis ain't LIVED her life in ten years because she's hung up over a man who played her. I absolutely abhor weak women characters and I could already tell where this was going. No thanks.

The story line was what got me intrigued. It was a fairly easy read, but there were lots of typos and it seemed to be repetitive and dragged out.

Football and Romance A Second Chance

The story had a nice premise with high school lovers reuniting after a ten year absence. Malik Cooper dumped his girlfriend of seven years the night he was drafted number one in the NFL by the NY team. While Jilian waited by the phone for the call that never came from Malik, her life was changed overnight. Jiilian went on to get her MD and was the lone AA doctor in her area. Then one day fate was unkind to Malik when he sustained a possible career ending injury, and he would need the good doctor to save his career. Malik just had to convince his first and only love he'd made a mistake leaving her. And that he was worthy of a second chance. A nice story

Okay Read

I never really warmed up to Malik. Would it really take 10 years and a possible career ending injury for you to realize what a real jerk you were to the one person you claimed to love so much? If he was going to listen to his agent and throw Jillian away, he could have at least had the decency to call her after being with her for 7 years. And Jillian needed a backbone. She was given some great advice to make him work for her if he wanted her back. But did she listen to that sage advice? Of course not.

Blitz all the way!

Excellent read. Strong storyline, character development, believable progression and the right balance of romance, reality and love. Strongly recommend to those who believe in second chances and staying the course no matter what life throws your way.

Good story. The couple gets together past 50%. Lacks detailed intimacy. A bit syrupy sweet.

i feel like Jillian forgave Malik WAY too quickly. That was quite unrealistic to be sure, but it was a cute quick romance to read.

Great!

I really enjoyed the book. It was my first book I read by Shana, and can boldly say that it will not be the last. I had so many emotions reading this book.
