Forever Evermore #1-3

The King Trilogy, Forever Evermore: King Hall / King Cave / King Tomb

Rate this book

From Scarlett Dawn comes the stunning, sexy, sensual, surprising, spell-binding King Trilogy; the first and best-selling Forever Evermore trilogy now in one volume.

King Hall

A fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on-tight new adult fantasy series kicks off with King Hall…

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing:  survival.  Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden. Then Lily becomes deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings.  Being named future King of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight. But with risk comes a certain solace — her friendships with the other three Kings: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life. Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: human.

King Cave

The long-awaited sequel to the bestselling, award-winning King Hall: the revolution is here, but the most dangerous attack may come from within...

The world of Lily Ruckler and her fellow Mystical Kings and Queens is rocked to the core by the attacks at King Hall. Lily has to assume the mantle of leadership, and bring the surviving Mysticals to King Cave. But she is not alone. Ezra becomes her rock, her best friend, the one person who understands. As Pearl and Jack struggle with loss, Ezra and Lily work to keep the Mys community safe in their new home, and plan a deadly retaliation.  Their friendship saves them both...but it also draws attention. It's not normal for Shifters and Vampires to be friends, and when a horrifying truth is revealed, their relationship morphs from unusual to unspeakable. Lily is good at keeping secrets that could get her killed. Is she willing to risk Ezra's life as well?

King Tomb

From Scarlett Dawn comes the stunning, sexy, sensual, surprising, spell-binding conclusion to the best-selling first Forever Evermore trilogy.

Queen Shifter, Lily Ruckler, has found solace in brutal warfare. Her bloodied fists and bared fangs fill the holes left in her memory, the blank spaces that leave her soul aching and empty. Her only pleasure is in blood; her only salvation is the relationship she has with her infant child, the baby of unknown origins who brings her solace and stability.

When a standard reconnaissance mission leaves her trapped inside King Zeller’s private quarters, surprise attraction rapidly turns to a battle of wills and an intense power struggle that leaves no clear victor. In order to win the war against the Commoners, the King Vampire and Queen Shifter must work together. But their chance meeting has led to more than an unlikely alliance. Secrets have a way of surfacing, especially on a torn-up battlefield, and Lily and Ezra are about to re-learn all they cannot remember. If they can’t control their emotions and responses, it will be to their own ruin and the destruction of everything around them.

This series did exactly the reverse of what it was supposed to do. It started off strong. I liked the characters and the world. Their powers were interesting and the relationships were believable and compelling. I was excited to see the character development that would happen.

Then the second book started. Now, I LOVE romance and fluff, but it was so overwhelmingly bad that I was actually excited at the prospect of the main characters getting separated. I thought, okay! Maybe they're going to get a chance to do their own thing and grow in their powers and become badass! But then, no. They weren't separated after all. The entirety of the second book was a descent into sticky-sweet romance and complete drivel. I hoped, rather than believed, the third book would be better.

***Slight spoiler***
Even though we've had TWO TUBAL LIGATIONS at this point, she still starts off book three pregnant. I think this was supposed to substitute for character development, but everything about it was poorly written and made my teeth hurt from grinding them so hard. But fine. We needed a reason for our protagonists to get back together. Why the hell not. At least they hate each other now. This'll be good. Lots of anger and animosity to grow through, right? WRONG AGAIN! They instantly decide they don't hate each other and they trip and fall onto each other's genitals.

I know this is ranty and I'm sorry. But a slight aside: this book boggles my mind with the sex. Lily is such a fucking prude half the time (oh teehee I can't get naked in front of any of you!) but then has lots of graphic sex. I felt like this book wanted to be 50 Shades of Grey in its "sexiness" (and by that I mean bad, awfully written sex trying to be hot and mature) and Twilight (no sex until marriage wut wut! Hashtag values). Please. Pick one. Or use it as an opportunity for *gasp*
character development!

Anyway, as if all of that wasn't bad enough, the author commits the cardinal sin. She "finishes" an ENTIRE DAMN WAR in the final 2% of the book. No. Just, no. I'm sorry. I've gotten no character development, no plot, vocabulary became rapidly more homogeneous (and I swear to god the author needs to pick up a dictionary and look up the word "altered" because it's used wrong 90% of the 8000 times she used it). And now I don't even get a full chapter devoted to wrapping this shit up? Are you kidding me? Clearly these books weren't written to actually have a plot. I've read fanfiction with more plot, world building, character development, and creativity than this. I'm bummed because I thought it had potential, and I'm annoyed with myself that I read the entire thing through to the end. I really wanted this to be good, but it was a huge disappointment throughout.

I don't think I could find the perfect words to say this boxed set is just that....perfection. Every wants a good book to just engross themselves in, where the characters literally leap off the pages and the storyline feels as tho you just experienced an epic movie moment. But these books do even more. Emotionally, you want the writer to write 47 more books covering each and every characters tangent lives.you will want to read this set not just once but multiple times with each time leaving you begging for more. This is the set book t shirts refer to! If there were a PNR class this set would set the standard. PNR lovers, if you haven't read this set yet, do it now for an amazing life altering experience. I have read and reviewed each of these books separately.

8th or 12th? Re-read, spoilers ahead

I’ve never reviewed this particular story (as in a 3 books in one version) so I’m technically getting to do 2 reviews) I believe it was 2019?? When I discovered Ms. Dawn initially. You know, when you’ve read everything by your fav authors then have to go find something to read in the interim while waiting for release dates? Well that was me with Scarlett. My very 1st book by her was Trixie Towers and I was HOOKED! I haven’t looked by since and have also since gobbled up every book written by Scarlett Dawn. I constantly come back to this series even though most favor books 4-6 which focuses on another throple. No Ezra and Lily are my ultimate couple. Not just in Scarlett’s world either.
Their grit, bravery, 🔥, love, devotion, commitment, loyalty and love are unrivaled. I think the journey of their love is what does it for me. No insta love, but hard won love after going through the gauntlet of loss, emptiness, hopelessness…only to find, through the crack in the wall, that there is hope on the other side, risk and fear, soulmate, love. It’s hauntingly real and alarmingly honest. These books get me RIGHT in the feels, every time. Lily and Ezra will forever be in my top favorite couples, if not THE favorite. I love them that much.
As always, an amazing read from chapter one and never stopped through the end) THAT is a mark of a true artist. To keep you invested from the get go. To make you belly laugh, ugly cry, fan yourself at the extreme level of steam, swoon with the magnetism of the fire levels of Alpha POSSESSIVE male. I could go on and on, this series has it all! Go pick it up, you’re in for a treat if you haven’t read Scarlett before. Enjoy!

Starts out good but turns out a total disappointment

I started the first book based on the very good reviews and the interesting topic. I had been looking for a good fantasy story with properly written characters.
The first book was not bad. It did a nice job of introducing the world and quite a few different characters and plot lines. Even though there were some cracks in the logic of the world and some plots, they could be ignored and hope the author would fix part of them in the next 2 books.
Sooo, I get to the 2nd book which should have been strongly focused on character development and plot furthering. Instead, 2 of the 4 main characters all but diappear and most of the book turns into porn. Unnecessary, unsensual, illogical. The 2 remaining main characters make unlikely and stupid decisions about where and when to fuck and you're left with the impression you're dealing with horny 16 yr olds. Both of them had apparently been raised by very tough and cautious parents. The female main character should have been cautious of eveb breathing the wrong way due to her unlawful hybrid existance. Instead, noooo, they go fuck in public places or places where others could easily have access to. No matter there was a world war happening precisely because of these kinds of acts and the risk of breeding hybrids. By the end of book 2 you have no real development of the antihero. No real background to his motivation or means of achieving his actions. Furthermore even more plotlines are added which never go anywhere (such as the royal war pets - or vizoars; the big bad witch and her pact with the main character; the new prodigies; the daddy meeting etc). And one of the things I hate most in fantasy novels, you get your all powerful character (the elder mage) who could have prevented everything but instead just messes things up because that all makes soooo much sense.
Going on to the 3rd book, I honestly think the author got bored and just forced herself to write it for the money. Nothing makes sense. Not the story, not the characters' reactions, not the ending. I still wonder what she must have been thinking when she introduced yet another mysterious and useless character towards the end of the book (a human teenager). At the end of the book you are almost back where you started, with no real sense as to why everything "had to happen" since nothing really changed. The all-powerful mage and his discourse again makes no sense and you feel like it would lead to another trilogy, which it doesn't. The next series set in the same world has nothing to do with the current main characters. So, in the end, you feel pretty much "brain raped", wondering what the hell all those good reviews were about and why such a promissing story was treated so badly by its creator.

How have I never read this???

Oh wow.... so.... read this. Just do it. I stumbled upon Scarlett Dawn sometime ago after falling into her Trixie Towers series. That one thrilled me so much I started the backlist, and found this complicated urban fantasy that quite literally smacked my mind. The world building is amazing and the characters lush with emotion and truth. It’s harsh, bloody and so dang good I read the entire trilogy in one day.

Pros:
- Very well written.
- Character development.
- These relationships are nurtured and grown over time, there’s no such thing as insta love, at least not with the main players that mean so much.
- The main concept of choice is paramount. There’s fate, then there’s the choice of the heart.... and it matters.

Cons:
- Confusing at times.
- Beginning is hard to get into as it feels like you drop right into the middle of a story.
- Some parts are not explained well.

INITIAL THOUGHTS... with some spoilers about book 3
This box set was something I initially purchased because of the value, compared to buying each book individually, and became something I could not put down for several days...anticipating the next time I could get back to the story in between working and sleeping! As a whole, I loved this new trilogy as I'm always hesitant about starting a new series from an author I'm less familiar with.

KING HALL - BOOK 1: As with any new book, I love when authors take time with the story line, world building and character development. The character development was nicely done in that it allowed you to like the characters, despite their differing personalities and as they fumbled through maturity and training to become future rulers. This book allowed for a genuine assessment of grief and its affect on personalities, as well as how social support and coping can shape the healing process. King Hall was an interesting setting that I wished had been developed a bit further, although it wasn't necessary for context. A little more background with Dominic and Lily would have been appreciated given how little time Dominic plays an active role in the story, almost maybe a little more personal introspection about her relationship - as a means of providing the reader with info- as she begins to trust her fellow Prodigies/future co-rulers with her complex life and secrets. I was curious as to whether Lily's upbringing with her uncle may have contributed to her small size might have been nice - which presents her with issues throughout the series. The climax of this book was beautifully written as the prodigies learned that their extremely intense training expertly prepared them for impending war and gave them the strength and confidence to lead their people to safety. Overall, this first book was awesome and kept me turning page after page as the action continued to build.
PS. I love that the characters didn't often come off as whiny brats in this book, but young adults learning to adjust with several significant life changes.

KING CAVE - BOOK 2: This book starts where the first ended, the Mys community is hunkering down in anticipation of another world war breaking out between the Mysticals and Commoners. In this new setting at King Cave, a massive safe house of sorts, we begin to understand more about the politics with the Elders and and current Kings; and we begin to learn about many other significant characters that push the plot line along. You can already tell fairly early into the prodigies' unexpectedly close friendship that despite the all the rule-breaking, they envision a better future for the Mys community as a whole. Interestingly, this book did make an attempt to address differences of the Mys races related to courtship and sexual practices. A bit more context on some of the faction differences would have been appreciated in this installment since it's where readers are most exposed to the different factions and nuances of co-existing, then co-leading. I do agree with their philosophy about not wanting to adhere to nonsensical and archaic rules/laws just because it's what's always been done...shows their insight as future rulers early on. I again loved seeing the personal development of Lily and Ezra given the difficulties, major and minor, they experience in this book and how these experiences shape them.

Complaints about book 2:
Although we didn't learn much about Jack and Pearl because they're grieving for most of this book, and while it was clear they would seek each other for comfort, their pairing towards the end of the book seemed quite rushed. Particularly considering the ritual they invoked prior to all of their lives being irrevocably altered. Also, there were many times during this book - especially considering the nature of Lily's upbringing that is revealed in the first book - that she should have gotten some damn cliffs notes about the Mys community since it seems she was frequently in unnecessarily sticky situations due to sheer ignorance. Alas, it does keep the story all the more interesting.

KING TOMB - BOOK 3 + spoilers:
I have to agree with some of the other reviewers about the final book, King Tomb, being a bit of a let down in the context of the build up of the previous 2 books in the series. It was wonderful to glean more about Antonio and his past, particularly the underlying tension with him and Cahal given their past of being rulers during WW1. Seeing a ruthless Queen Ruckler in battle was awesome since she finally gained her due respect. Sadly, we're once again left without much information about what's going on with Jack/King Collins and Pearl/Queen Cooper...although given the tragic shared experience of the 4 we learn that they too have become fearsome leaders to behold.

Complaints of book 3:
Admittedly, I was upset with the way some of the initial interactions between King Zeller and Queen Ruckler continued to make the Queen seem exceptionally weak especially considering all the allusions to her being a fierce and badass ruler. These scenes almost seemed to undermine her power...despite underestimation being something the Queen has always thrived on. I did not care for the fact that the whole point of this book - seeing the new ruling faction maneuver WW2 - seemed incredibly glossed over and ended abruptly. The book poorly attempts to show how much the new rulers have become as a result of the punishment they endured at the end of book 2, but this is really only somewhat illustrated with Lily and the limited scenes with Jack and Pearl made them come across as very one dimensional. I also wished we got a little more context about the Vizoacs and their powers, it seemed like we were getting initial glimpses at the end of book 2 and then they're essentially forgotten about for the entirety of book 3. They could have added a little more to the action and context of the Mys world.

This started brilliantly lagged in the middle, picked up at about 70% and then the ending seemed rushed. Tying up loose ends that quite frankly could have been resolved during King Cave. This seemed to suggest a ménage relationship with the large bed and one of the MC already bi sexual. I liked it I just think there was a change of direction after the first book and pacing issues. To have Pearl and Jack as MCs in the first book and then relegated to bit parts or completely absent in the other books seems strange after establishing characterisation and building up the friendships between the four.
Finding out the girl who betrayed them had already died and a time traveler turning up in the last few chapters to kill the mostly absent bad guy was convenient too. Still no explanation as to how the mutant monsters were made. The MCs babies were fine and she a hybrid.

Scarlett Dawn did it again with The King Trilogy: Forever Evermore. It was fantastic the book puts you right there with them. They become your friends. The storyline of Lily and Ezra was written in a way that you never knew what would happen next. Jack and Pearl storyline wasn't that strong but I have a feeling they will pop up in the next book.
The best part of the book is the fact that you might have a mate but you can have a true love or a soul mate that is just as strong.
These books are well worth reading.

This series wasn't all what I was expecting what I first pressed the sample of King Hall, but wow it hooked me quickly. I then speeded off and bought the boxset (it was the same price as the first book on kindle at the time so I thought 'why not') and I am so glad I bought the whole trilogy. I was surprised how early on I got attached to the characters and how likeable they were. I loved the connection and interactions between Dominic and Lily they are such a great couple (as I saw in someone else review on Goodreads, it would be great to get a prequel about these two). It did take me a wee while to clock the different supernatural groups, and I was a bit confused to begin with about which king was which, but as they featured more and more it became easier to differentiate. I adored the open and deep friendship that the four protégées form and also the way that the two generations of rulers interacted (especially in the first book).

The first book was amazing - 5 star read -, just loved the school/training setting, as these four teenagers deal with their emotional, psychological and physical trials that comes with being the next ruler of a supernatural species. This first book ends with dramatic disaster which leads into book two which is full of one issue after another, yet is also full of romance and personal turbulence as the threat of all our war looms.

The final book in this trilogy -King Tomb- was the disappointment for me. After such a dramatic turn of events at the end of the second book I dived straight into this one. I did enjoy the third book for about half of it, I loved seeing how the characters had changed after the event in book two, (and there is always that anticipation as the reader of the 'big reveal', when you know something that the characters don't). Unfortunately, however, the final part of book just felt rushed and it left me so many unanswered questions and missing scenes I had been anticipating reading -it was such a shame.

Yet despite the ending, this series was still a great trilogy following the next group of supernatual rulers as they come into there individual powers and strengths while under the threat of war. There friendship and the lengths they'd go for each other is such a inspiration, as they fight not only their enemies but also prejudices and their own fears and doubts.

Amazing trilogy

These books were intense. Multiple times in each book, I had to stop because of the intensity of my reactions to what was happening. I was overjoyed. I was so angry I had to put myself in timeout. I wept many, many times. I laughed out loud. These books are intense.

My biggest frustration with the book is how quickly it wrapped up. A lot of things weren't answered, addressed, or completed. And that's without an attentive eye. If you want to know about them, see spoilers below.

Would I read it again? Probably, especially now that I won't have the intense reactions that I did this time because I know what's going to happen. Would I recommend it for others? Only if you're an adult, and you don't have any of the triggers that I list below. This author truly understands grief, so if you haven't processed that in your own life, this book is not for you. However, if you're willing to relive some of your feelings, this author has some beautiful passages about healing.

Contains sex scenes that weren't necessary to the plot (including homosexuality), swear words (mostly the Lord's name in vain, f***, and s***), and quite a bit of violence (it's war, so torture and a myriad of violent ways to kill). It also contains a parent's death, many spouse/mate deaths, miscarriage, and reference to at least physical abuse in childhood, if not sexual as well.

SPOILERS: what about Clarice's third demand? Ezra and Lily never addressed what was inside their rings. John Smith's strengths were never addressed, and I felt like there was more to his story. And Tipkin, too. Why was Harcourt working with a Commoner girl? The war wrapped up too quickly. What was the deal with the President's red velvet bag? And that smoke? Will Law 6002 ever be repealed? Considering six of the main characters are breaking it, that should have been addressed. On top of all that, the epilogue wasn't clarifying at all.

So going into this I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised when by the first book. It was so so good, I couldn't put it down. I loved the friendship between Lily, Pearl, Ezra, and Jack and I like how the author developed each character. The story was well paced and the world building was done well. I cried, I laughed, and I cheered reading this book. The characters were so bad ass!!! There wasn't much romance, but there was flirting and an obvious attraction so I felt that factor didn't take away from the story.

I liked how the second book picked up right after the first. There was a lot of action, deaths, and magic going on. I totally loved it as well as felt sick to my stomach at what the mys had went through on that fateful graduation night. I liked the new location everyone went to and the new characters introduced. What I didn't like was the lack of interaction with Jack and Pearl. The friendship was so important to the story in the first book that I felt myself wondering out loud where the hell Jack and Pearl were throughout the book. The romance went up about 10 notches in this book and I totally loved it. I like how Ezra and Lily drifted from friends to lovers and it was done well and seemed natural. All in all this book was good, but not better than the first.

As for the final book... I did not like it at all. Wow, if I thought Jack and Pearl weren't in the previous book enough this one they weren't almost at all. I was so disappointed because the author emphasized the importance of their friendship in the first book but totally disregarded it in this book. Lily was totally unrecognizable and I personally hate when authors do this and it makes me want to completely stop reading. Even Ezra was just meh for me. I am just very disappointed in the progression of this series which sucks because the first book was literally out of this world. It was unique, it was refreshing. so hence the 3 out of 5 stars...

A bit all over the place...

I purchased this series based on recpmmendations I read online after rereading the Twilight saga again for the umpteenth time. This triology is NOT like Twilight HOWEVER it does have tweens fallong in love with a twist of drama.
To me the story started out confusingly and kind of is abrupt, no history of how Lily is already mated, etc. but it does eventually explain some of that as you read on. It just isn't how I thought a beginning series should start.
Lily and Ezra have off the charts chemistry except I'm not sure how I felt about adding in to the tale about her being so turned on by other shifters that it could be scented by Ezra. Maybe that's supposed to be a tween thing? Anyway... that doesn't detract from the story too much.
Pearl and Jack are an interesting story in itself and I'm sure I would purchase books of their own story if written.
I feel the story was a bit all over the place to draw out the triology but even so I kept reading because I wanted to know what becomes of Lily and Ezra. To say the ending was satisfying is hard to say. I was happy at the end until I got to the Epilouge. I didn't feel this needed to be there, it made it feel as though all the charaters were controlled that their lives and loves were not their own.
I truly did enjoy the triology so don't let my comment dissuade from purchasing this series. There are a lot of good things that I don't want to spoiler alert about in my review and there is a lot of explicit heat 🔥🔥🔥 when the tweens are of age.
Opinions are my own and unbiased after reading this triology.

The first two books in this series were really great - I would give them both five stars! I loved the slow burn between Lilly and Ezra in the first book and then in the second we finally get to see their romance fully bloom, along with the introduction of great secondary characters.

Now on to book #3...

I felt like the third book was completely unnecessary to the story line. I personally would have been happier if the story had ended with the second book instead of doing some weird mind-wipe thing that required a third book to be written. There was practically nothing new introduced in the third book... it was just us having to relive practically everything that had already happened in the previous books. Overall, I was not a fan of the last installment.

King Hall: Yep - totally loved this series. Worth the few dollars. Though it was weird at times - vampires feeding on other vampires - that's a new one!! The relationship between the four friends is fabulous and I did laugh out loud a few times which is ALWAYS a sign of a good book.
King Cave: Lily and Ezra's relationship builds nicely through this book.
King Tomb: Getting your memory wiped (mind raped as Lily calls it) sounds really traumatic so I can understand why you would turn into a bitter, ice queen. Ezra not having sex for a whole year (as a man-whore), is not really credible. Overall, great series.

Love this series!!

This was a great series! There were times where I wanted to cry scream or laugh. Lily is my favorite character by far and she has been through so much to become the great and terrible ruler she is today. The amount of loss she had in her life would be enough to cause anyone to be a depressed mess but she always put on a brave face and powered through and never let anyone tell her she couldn't. I really hope I get to see more of her in the next series because honestly she's great

Needs a prequel!

The overall series was good. If there was a book that explained her falling in love with her mate the first boo would make a lot more sense. The second book was excellent; well laid out, good plot and character development, etc. the end of the third book felt rushed and unfinished. But overall it was a good and enjoyable series

3.5 stars.

It was interesting and clever. Very good world building and characters. It kept me reading. There were bits that were very annoying though - like when the hero was being a totally arrogant jackass and the heroine a lust addled fool, but other than that, I enjoyed it.

I loved this! The concept was unique to a supernatural book with four supe rulers and the developing forbidden love. So much suspense, great plot and the relationships where highly enjoyable.
