Godsend is the first novel in the Hell Yeah! Heritage series. If you ever wondered where those McCoy men came from…these historical novels will take you to their beginnings. Deeply sensual stories of romance and adventure, they will capture your imagination and your heart. History is definitely worth repeating. Thrust from his home, Austin McCoy travels west to build a new life for himself in the wilds of Texas. Civilization has not yet arrived to the wilderness where he settles and his nearest neighbor is more than two days’ journey through Indian territory alive with bear, cougar and wolves. While difficult, carving out an existence amidst these dangers is not what weighs heavily on his heart. With nothing and no one to share his days, Austin is lost. The answer to his prayers comes from a very unexpected source… Jolie Dumas has also been torn from the only home she has ever known. The beloved daughter of a plantation owner and his quadroon mistress, she is horrified to be sold into slavery after the death of her parents. Bought and paid for, she is chained and walked from New Orleans to Texas. Before she can be delivered to her master, the slave trader is killed and Jolie escapes. Alone and vulnerable, she seeks a safe place to hide, not knowing the sanctuary she finds may end up being the one place she truly belongs. When Austin opens his heart and home to the beautiful woman, he has no idea the future she faces. Knowing what awaits her if anyone finds out the truth, Jolie hides her identity from him. Having been betrayed before by those she trusted, she has no idea that in Austin’s eyes she could not be more perfect. She is his Godsend.

Godsend, is the first book in the Hell Yeah! Heritage series that takes the reader back to the beginning of the McCoy clan. This is the story of Austin McCoy and Jolie Dumas, it takes place in the 1800's, and I absolutely loved the way that Sable led the reader into the story. This book is loaded with history, romance, angst, love, tough times, and happiness. I couldn't help but compare Austin with the McCoys of present day that I have come to love. It seems that their values started a long time ago. I anxiously await the next book in this series, and that in itself says a lot about Sable's writing, because I don't usually read historical romance, yet I want more. In true Sable Hunter fashion, she made the characters in this novel come to life in the readers mind. At times I felt that I was right there in the wilderness with these two. Austin is a strong, possessive and protective alpha male and Jolie, bless her heart, she had to be strong to endure what she went through. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of romance, if you are like me you will probably be swooning over Austin McCoy!
Loved this story. This is the beginning of Hell Yeah! series. If you're a fan of The MCcoys,' go for this book!
Felt deeply for h when she became a unwanted child after her parents' death, not to mention how heartbroken when she was sold. Fortunately, she met H. He was a sweetheart. What a great hero: he not only saved her but also be a gentleman, totally respected her.
I was nervous during the reading because I didn't know when will H found h's background or the villian show up.
This story was not only a romance but told readers how unfair the society was: people used to look down upon people whose skin color was different from them.
Just wish the author told us what exactly did h's relationship with Cady's ancestors?
Godsend (Hell Yeah! Heritage) by Sable Hunter WOW... what a great story...Libby and Cady go into the attic to find some outfits for the celebration...and they find some history... Austin and Jolie's story comes to Cady in dreams and their tale is one I could not put down... being in their story with them was full of so many feelings and sometimes I held my breath afraid of what might happen...than goodness they get to their HEA and also Cady finds a connection to her family. Now I want more exploring in the attic.
History+ romance + swooning moments =how the Mcoy family started
Reading this you can see not only Aaron but you're able to see bites and pieces of the whole clan. It was night mix of a hell yeah story with alot of history.
After reading godsend I want to go back and reread the series.
Sweet story about a lonely man who will go to any length to save the woman he loves. Fairly well edited. However, it is always a bit irritating to find a name used inconsistently. In this case, Garrett Thomas was also referred to as Thomas Garrett - sometimes from one paragraph to the next. As always, I don't care which is used, just pick one and stick with it.
Jolie was born in Louisiana to white plantation owner, John Belmont, and his free quadroon lover, Louisa Dumas. Because of the world in which they lived, they could not marry legally. As such, John provided a home near his plantation, and made regular visits to see Louisa and their daughter. Tragedy met John and Louisa, leaving young Jolie orphaned. She is raised for a time by her grandmother, but she too passes away. Jolie is then taken to live at the plantation house by her Uncle Felix. A few years pass, and Felix is killed.in a duel. His mother and wife decide they have had enough of Jolie and sell her into slavery. Along the way to her new owner in Texas, Jolie is able to escape and winds up in the care of Austin McCoy, a lonely rancher. Austin is so very thankful to have someone to talk to. The pair fall in love, and Austin decides that he wants to marry Jolie. However, a trip into town is the catalyst for many revelations regarding Jolie and her life. Will Austin accept society's view of Jolie? Will he turn her in to the authorities? Will Jolie ever be free to live her life with Austin?
There are so many things going on around Austin and Jolie. Society's views on slavery, blood, marriage, and rights. Fugitive slave laws. Power and land disputes in early Texas. Lack of adequate medical care and Yellow Fever. Austin and Jolie must find a way to navigate and survive all of these things while they find a path to love and happiness. Easy afternoon read. Enjoy.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." ~George Santayana~, philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist (16 December 1863 in Madrid, Spain – 26 September 1952 in Rome, Italy)
I had to include this quote because this story is still, unfortunately relevant today with regard to race, color, creed, and religion. We have not moved on as much as we would like to believe.
Austin McCoy finds a Godsend in Jolie Dumas who finds santuary on his property after escaping a brutal slave trader on her way to the man who purchased her. Based on Jolie's looks, Austin is unaware that Jolie is in fact, a runaway slave and not only takes her in, but falls in completely in love with her in record time. Jolie is just what Austin has been praying for to save him from his lonliness on the frontier after being sent away from his father's home when his stepmother took a liking to him.
Jolie lives each day with Autin in fear of being "outed" and rejected by him when he discovers her true heritage. Eventually Austin does learn Jolie's true heritage and mercifully, does not reject her because of it. However, Jolie's worst fear that the man who purchased her will eventually come to claim his property.
No matter how many good deeds Jolie does to try to make herself acceptable to other, even through her work at the Mission when the town has an outbreak of yellow fever, it still comes down to the "one-drop rule - "one drop of any other blood changes the color in a white man's eyes."
The story is somewhat predictable on it's way to a HEA for Austin and Jolie. One can see that the McCoy's are made of sterner stuff and refuse to follow the system when it is easier to do so.
"Godsend," by Sable Hunter is a very, very good read! Racism and slavery are brought into light when a runaway slave, Jolie, escapes her handler and runs into Austin McCoy. Austin has left his home in Tennessee to start a new life in Texas. There is no one around for miles and the nearest settlement is a five-day ride. He is lonely, and spends time wishing for someone to share his home, bed and life with. Jolie is the illegitimate daughter of a white man and his mulatto mistress. She was raised with love from her father, mother and grandmother in Louisiana, until tragedy strikes and she is forced to live with her unwelcoming white relations. Jolie found out just how much they despise her existence when she is sold as a slave, which she isn't, and taken away from her family. Jolie wanders onto Austin's land and meets the man she will fall in love with. She is grateful for the offer of his protection and safe place to stay while Austin is thankful for someone to talk to - and someone to look at. The passion between these two and the love scenes are classic Sable Hunter, they are so hot they may burn up your Kindle. There is an inner core of sweetness and love shared between Austin and Jolie that make them a couple to root for. I have read many of Sable Hunter's books, loved them, and I am so glad she is venturing into the historical romance genre since it is my most favorite. Highly recommended for historical romance lovers looking for a passionate, sexy love story.
got this either free or cheap on amazon. I've never read the author, so I had no backstory on the series this was part of (but I think it was like a pre-quel sort of thing); it didn't seem to matter that I hadn't read the rest of the series.
2-2.5 stars. it was a passable story and maybe I would have been more into it if I had been reading the series. however, it was very much an insta-love story without a huge amount of depth in the characters or the story. based on this, I probably won't seek out more from this author.
if you want something with a similar feel but (imo) much better writing and character development, I recommend Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold by Ellen O'Connell...now I want to go and re-read that book.
Godsend is a fantastic historical western romance by Sable Hunter. Ms. Hunter has produced a book that is well-written and loaded it with a spectacular cast of characters. Jolie is orphaned and her uncle takes her in. She doesn't get the same treatment as her cousin because she's mixed race. When her uncle dies her aunt was happy to sell her to slave traders. Austin was forced from his home to make his own way. He owns his land and is doing well, but the loneliness is getting to him. Austin and Jolie's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. I totally enjoyed this book and look forward to my next book by Sable Hunter. Godsend is part of the Hell Yeah! Heritage Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Sable Hunter writes wonderful stories and this one is so beautiful it made me cry. It is such an incredible love story, it is not often I feel so emotional. It is the story of a love that one would write poem about. A one in a million sort of love that is seldom seen. This is a must read book.
Austin left his home in Tennessee to move to the wilds of Texas, to begin anew. Jolie went from a happy home in Louisiana to an unhappy one and then was sold into slavery. They manage to find a way to be together. A good read, a bit a history that we don't always consider.
I loved how easily Jolie was accepted by Austin when he found out her real heritage. But maybe loneliness will do that to you. What I disliked was the undertones of Jolie seeming to think that she had to work very hard to keep Austin happy so that he wouldn't send her away. Willie's battle with the panther had my heart palpitating and I loved the outcome.

Jolie is sold into slavery after her parents die. It is not something that she can understand. When a bear kills the man who was delivering her to her new owner she runs away. That is when she meets Austin. They fall in love. What will happen when her owner shows up?
