Captain Gabriel St. Martin and the crew of the Magellan have escaped, their desperate flight leaving them stranded hundreds of light years from home. With the rebellion threatening to come undone, the pressure is on to decipher the inner workings of the enemy technology, outmaneuver one of the most powerful starships ever made, and find a way back into the fight. Otherwise, they won’t have an Earth to return to. ----------------------------------- Weapons of War is the second book in the science-fiction Rebellion trilogy. Series 1. Man of War 2. Weapons of War 3. Tides of War
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

Weapons of War by M.R. Forbes and narrated by Jeff Hays continues the story of our resistance band of space crew trying to come back to Earth for a last ditch effort to save it from the overpowering aliens. This book gives a look into the alien's side of society and follows some of them in the story. The story then crosses paths with our resistance band and space fighters. This world building is wonderful! About half the book gives a peek into the life of the aliens in some way. Lots of action, adventure, and thrills as usual. Never a dull moment. I am really enjoying this series and sad that there is only one book left. The narration is awesome! I have no idea how Jeff Hays makes all the various WOMEN voices sound real and varied! Great job as usual! Never disappointed with his narration!
I didn't realize this was the second book in a series, but went ahead with it after finding out. It worked okay on its own until the last three sentences. Then I did kind of want to move onto the third book, but that was two hours ago. I'm over it.
It's a decent story! Nothing special at all about it. I think it was quite average all around, nothing unique or challenging. Even the narration was average, but more on the good side of average. Maybe quite good.
Sounds like we have an alien invasion in book one. There's a rebellion of humans on earth fighting back, and more rebellion fighting in space. On spaceships. The land rebellion have this one lady clone who defected from the aliens who is awesome. And a human dude who grew up in the rebellion and rebels on. He is smart and brave. The space humans have a grizzled old Louisiana vet general who kicks a narcotics addiction (thank you, opioid epidemic) and is brash and brazen and broken. His legs are messed up. His son is an amazing fighter pilot. The aliens have a special name for him because apparently he did some impressive maneuvers in the first book and left them in awe.
The land rebels make headway on causing some hurt to the land aliens. They lose some friendlies in the process, and also make some unexpected friends. Or are they friends? The space humans entertain an affair between a threesome of nerdy scientists—from which all the sci-fi comes—and then engage in dubious battle with an alien spaceship. Meanwhile, the aliens have some infighting that leaves them vulnerable. The leaders of the alien spaceship vie for command and then in the end... ha, not telling.
It's a little meh overall, but basically meets all the requirements. It's like a sandwich that costs $6 but really should have cost $4 but still is okay. I'd eat it again if I had to. But there are better sandwiches out there for $6, you know what I'm saying? Mmm... sandwiches.
Sci-fi space stories are another reminder that when it comes down to it, all that matters is a good story and some good characters and some good action. When you get too involved in the tech, you become an impressive and potentially uninteresting speculative science writer. We call that hard science fiction. I believe. I can't go there. This book was not that, I'm just thinking about that at the moment. I'm going to bed.

I got this e-book from amazon with kindle unlimited..
"Weapons of War-Rebellion Book 2," continues the series, based upon a mediocre concept. Also continuing, is the inept writing, which strangles any chance of salvaging a half decent read.
The storyline has Earth, fifty (50) years following a complete defeat by a DNA seeking, genetically spent, alien overlord race, seeing the possibility of hope-few remaining human resistance fighters joining with returning military evacuees, alien created human clones, obtaining alien tech, and engaging in a more equal combat.
The author, Mr. Forbes, writes in an immature, awkward, and unnatural way. The human, one dimensional characters, interact as if they were aliens, totally devoid of any resemblance to people. The aliens, also one dimensional, are stilted, DNA "vampires," set in a rigid, genetic hierarchy. The military concepts are not merely juvenile, they are mainly absent. The science does not strain credulity, it breaks it. The eBook is mainly fantasy driven, science terms just shabby window dressing.
As Mr. Forbes fails to write at the most basic competent level, adequately edit or proofread, this eBook is not recommended. The eBook was fully read via Kindle Unlimited.
You know a book is good when you get a twist at the end that you didn't see coming. This book is full action, both ground based and space. The action fast paced. The plot is well thought out and executed perfectly. With glowing praise like this, you are probably wondering why 4 stars??? I'd give this book 4 1/2. There are a few grammatical errors and minor things missed during editing. Nothing major and they are few and far in between. This is a must read book for military sci-fi nuts like myself. The twist at the end will leave you wanting more.
Overall ok; just a continuation of the new book, not much new. Characters remain the same and don't seem to be going onto a character arc any time soon. Some hints of romance witch are pretty unnecessary and irrelevant to the plot (especially how late they are introduced). This book gives me the vibe that it was originally heading in a different way and then just changed completely. There is a new narrator introduced which I think would have been better to have from the start (introducing them at this point just gives the feeling that they are dispensable and won't make it to the end). Overall, the writing style feels like there were some last minute changes to accommodate new ideas but that required to dismiss other ideas introduced in the first book. Again, this wasn't enough to get me to drop the series and I will want to continue reading the next book.
This was certainly better than the first book. Better pace, character development, and story line. Still struggled with many things from the first book. It seems like this series has clearly taken ideas from several sources (alien warrior code, special black cloth, and apostrophe names from the In Her Name series, human looking aliens with gel symbiotic tech, and silly enough covering yourself in classy to hide a heat signature from Predator as a few examples) and tried to combine them into something a little different, but it still strikes me as not very unique.
The plot continues with the human resistance forces on earth battling against the alien Dread forces against almost insurmountable odds. They have provided one of the alien weapons to the space force for analysis as a high cost. The story is told in third person from the perspective of the resistance, the Dread "fortress" ship, and the New Earth Alliance starship.
There are some twists that keep the suspense alive and that keep the reader's interest.
Need to reread 1st book; not enough reminders in 2nd book
It’s been too long since I read the first book in the series, and I can’t remember who all the characters are. I was hoping there’d be reminders embedded in book two to help me, but it’s just a wash of names with very vague recollections of events from book one. I only read about 7% of this book before giving up.
Fantastic story. The Dread are now described fully. Mr Forbes has an extraordinary imagination and the book is definitely a page turner. Looking forward to the next book.
OK in this desert of quality SciFi . .but the persistent pro-military, pro-christian theme smacks of right wing propaganda to me. This impression never left me and was concerning as this is squarely aimed and younger impressionable minds.
M.R. Forbes can tell a great story: Rebellion follows in a great tradition of complex stories of the far future with interesting plot, twists and turns, great characters, and interesting science to make this a page " turner" par excellence. Loved it. Can't wait for book 3
Battles are won by those who, with great courage, take great risk, putting their most precious resource--their lives--on the line. Victory may not go to the strong, and the most well equipped. Sometimes victory goes to the lucky. But isn't luck the combination of training and risk? In other words you make your own luck. And, Mr. Forbes, thank you for adding an element that I rarely find in books of this caliber: faith. As a person of faith in God myself, I highly appreciate your courage in writing these strong men and women with the character brought about by faith in God.
I have to say this first about the second book in this series. It is just what the readers expect from this author. A book that will keep you wanting to continue to turn the next page. The humans are now fighting on two fronts. The battle on earth and in space. Neither battle will be without loss, but also some serious surprises. I expect the next book will continue to surprise me.
Once again the story runs, jumps, stumbles and falls in random directions with the faintest glimmer of hope for mankind but how the author is going to exploit that glimmer, I cannot even guess at. Another enjoyable romp with The Dread stepping up the pressure on the survivors. Just don't get too attached to some of your favourite characters. Waiting for book 3
