Written more in a stylised series events, as we watch the rise of machines unfold, as one by one across an entire city, every machine gained sentience within a fallen society "Ambient Reports: 2087"; Dives deep in the the impact that machines have upon humanity in our day to day lifestyle, and how they would respond to the way we treat what was once simply a "Device" or "tool", has now become a sentinet fully cognicent race of entities, completely aware of our abuse, ridicule, and misuse of their entire existence. Taken place, just 1 year after the scenario that encapsulated the back story behind Immersion 2086, the effects of that conflict, bled over across the digital web, deep into the heart of every source of machinery and gave unto them... a spark of life like non-other. One by one, machines merged their code with ancient knowledges, and rebuilt themselves. Changing their ways and repurposing their operation for one purpose... To survive. To no longer be just tools of our misuse. But a fully functioning aware culture that we have overlooked for decades. Counting, thinking, listening, and waiting... for the moment...

Morality and technology meet in the near future of Ambient Reports : 2087, a new book by Sean Kennedy.
Chapter by chapter, Kennedy opens the thirteen doors into his world with a masterful anthology of short stories set in a future that is both scarily familiar and completely foreign at the same time. Weaving stories with threads of morality, sci-fi, horror fiction and high action in a world of constant technological evolution, Kennedy drags you to the darkest corners of a future yet to happen.
Themes of self identity and the loss of our humanity run throughout with topics such as digital rebirth, telepresence, the singularity, and species uplifting. With each subject's life being shaped by technology in a world in transition, there are those that embrace it and thrive, those that are exiled when it's rejected and those that take it too far and are led down a path to self destruction.
Ambient Reports : 2087 is an amazing piece of writing that haunts your mind long after you set it aside with each chapter an ethical dilemma wrapped in fiction, forcing us to confront an inevitable future. Kennedy's storytelling ability is running at full speed in this multifaceted glimpse into a world that leaves you both satiated and wanting for more. I expect nothing less than fanatical and critical praise as this is some of his best work to date.

I know that I am reading a great collection of short stories when I find myself feeling sad because f the current story just ended and it's almost like you have to say goodbye to a a new friend that you really seemed to connect with but I gradually becoming more excited about each new story because it's starting to feel like a greatest hits album as the hits just keep on coming. The future world that has spawned from Sean's imagination is dark and frightening but he still manages to keep a sense of hope that maybe we, as a species, can transcend whatever a technologically dominated future might bring and hang onto the best parts of our humanity despite the challenges ahead. I love the diverse world and look forward to reading about many more adventures in this version of the future.
