This is my favorite issue so far! This one is just filled with nostalgia. Some absolutely great references to episode I. Chewbacca has a great moment. Princess Leia is the one with the great Episode I references which is absolutely awesome because she wasn't even born back then. Seems like the force os growing within her after episode VI. Can't wait for the next issue!

When Naboo is under attack, the queen reveals that there are still some starfighters in the closed off hangar from The Phantom Menace. When she is there, Leia feels cold and has a brief vision of Darth Maul's face since he had been there in The Phantom Menace. Like her vision of Padme in the Princess Leia miniseries, this is glossed over and really annoying. Is Darth Maul ever gonna come up again in a later story? Is he even alive during this era? Shara describes their attackers as "an imperial remnant," which seems to be a nod to EU fans. When hope is nearly lost, Lando (riding in Nien Nunb's Mellcrawler II) and a fleet arrive to the rescue thanks to a message decoded by C-3PO, Han, Chewie, and Kes. Part of me wishes that this battle had resulted in an Imperial victory. I know that this is titled Shattered Empire, but could you imagine Naboo being in ruins and inhospitable and then seeing it in that condition in The Force Awakens? Although I suppose that that could come across as an attack against the prequels. Shara and Kes are reunited, but I really worry about what could happen to them in the final issue.

This one was even better than the last. It's a good thing about these few, they just keep getting better. It also shows that after a war is won there is still not peace.

Once again, these Shattered Empire comics are solid Star Wars entries that deliver.

They are very formulaic, but dank farrik it works. A little bit of ground-based Rebel Scum terrorism for the opening act here (continued trend of light planet surface/on-foot combat), heavy on the starship fighter/space battles (again, status quo here for Shattered Empire) that is excellent, followed by great writing with classic characters we love like Leia and Han.

They've pretty much done the above for every issue, and I say again - it absolutely works. Throw on top some of the very best comic book art style you can ask for, and these are absolute winners.

The only reason why these aren't 5-stars is that they don't really offer anything new and from a business perspective are about as low-risk as you can go. However, a good thing is a good thing and that is undeniably found here.

The third issue opens to a view of an Imperial Base that seems lifted out of the SWRPG sourcebooks, which was a welcome surprise. We're finally getting some sort of follow-up to the action-packed cliffhanger from the first issue, before cutting away to slow-paced diplomatic drama of the second issue. Miraculously, we figure out that these two story branches are actually connected, who would have thought! Ofcourse, we need some action in the slow-paced arc as well, so why not send 3 pilots, atleast one who is irreplaceable and not really a pilot, against 2 Imperial II-class Star Destroyers?

1 star this time, as there's still just a ton of action scenes, together telling a story that so far wouldn't even fill one issue.

The military leaders and moffs who have profited by serving the empire are loath to relinquish their places and start serving the people! There is lots of work to do to bring justice back and stop the injustice and suffering of the peoples who only want to be left alone.
