ROOFTOP KILLER When Kate is hired to repair a roof for a brand new customer, she witnesses a brutal murder.
This was a 15 book series. Should have stopped with 1. The characters were flat. Things happen that are totally unbelievable. Kate just walks in the jail and talks to prisoners. I get being handy and being self taught but still. I have lived in small towns my whole life and if I lived in a town with that many murders I would have moved after the first 2 but this town had 30+.Then she becomes the mayor at the end with a write in ballot less then 2 weeks . If you want to waste time since it was free go ahead. But there are much better cozy mysteries you can read instead. I would have given it minus stars but not an option. Should have been proof read better and made more believable. Like it was a young adult teen series instead of for adults . Your kids can read it as there is no sex but if your an adult BORING.
Okay I got this as a kindle special thought for that price why not. I am about half way through and getting annoyed it seems that smirk is characters favourite word it's smirk everything even when telling someone that a person is dead. The character has just "FURTIVELY" stared down a reporter I think the Author needs to use a thesaurus. Or maybe they have changed the meaning of furtively and she is the only one who is in the know. Last time I checked it meant trying not to be noticed not glaring at a person.
Then there is the contradictions she went camping once with the hubby before he vanished and he hated it so they never went again. Then a few books later she is thinking about all the times that they went camping.
Then there is the friend who is trying to to find her child, the way it reads she was sent away by her parents for getting pregnant and we assume it is a case of gave him up for adoption then some books later it turns out he was kidnapped and he is her dead husband's child. The same husband who did not want her looking for him.
This was so bad, I sat and shook my head while trying to get through it. Characters changed names and the plot became increasingly more bizarre and unbelievable. I couldn't even make myself finish it.
Disappointing. The stories were bland and really far fetched. They made you believe the police were too stupid to catch the right crook and only a fix it lady could. Nothing I would care do read again.
The series were awesome because I'm really into mystery and crime books. The books were pretty short and easy so it seemed to me that I was just reading a whole book. My favorite book would probably be where Doris gets murdered and the authorities discover her body almost 20 years later because the murder is very tricky. This was supposed to be a children’s book but I did discover some curse words.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I got all 15 books for 99 ¢ and they were barely worth it.
I found this entire series to be absolutely infuriating. Kate's actions actually made me so angry, I couldn't deal with all of her stupidity. First of all, she didn't actually solve all of the murders. More often than not, she would confront someone (who turned out to be the killer) about something or would get kidnapped by the killer. In my mind, that doesn't actually count as solving the crime.
Over-use of the words "smirk" (not every smile can be a smirk), "padded" (no one pads everywhere all the time), and "ah" (not every spoken sentence should start with "ah") drove me to distraction.
Once she had a child, she continued to put herself in dangerous situations, often with her child, and I kept waiting for someone to call Child Protective Services on her. Every dangerous situation she put herself into, was done without telling her husband, the Chief of Police.
Names changed frequently, so oftentimes I had no idea who she was talking about.
Plus the way she would make herself at home in peoples' homes bothered me. She would go into a house to do some repairs and go rooting through cupboards so she could make herself some coffee. If I ever hired a contractor to do work in my home and they helped themselves to items from my cupboards I would fire them in an instant.
Her ex husband either went camping with her and the twins once and hated it, or he went camping all of the time, but both cannot be true. I think it's a shame when an author can't remember her own history.
Scott started out living in a house (where his ex-wife was murdered) but in subsequent books, he lived in an apartment ever since he came back to town.
It also bothered me that in the last book we find out that she'd bought a new truck four years prior...no mention of her having a new truck before that moment.
Her friend Carly goes from either owning the flower shop to simply working at it, depending upon which book you're reading.
Ending the series with her becoming Mayor after some guy who didn't actually live in the town put her name on the ballot was ridiculously nonsensical.
It's safe to say that I got angrier and angrier at the characters as the series went on...that's a month and a half of my life that I'll never get back.
Well written series that carries the reader through countless breathtaking murders and the crime solving Kate. I love how her life is surrounded within its own cold case. Then, continues over different stretches of time and trials. Wonderfully thought out and characters that invest the reader to their lives. My only complaint is that the twins weren't apart of the later books, in a small way. They're the cliff hanger.
This should have been one book. Too many inconsistencies...bad person in one book, best friend in next....Also, Ms. Knutson should look up smirk...it does not mean what she thinks...you can't have someone giving you a "sympathetic smirk!"...got half way through, skipped to end, didn't miss anything. Could be a good book....needs to be re-written. Oh, some of Mrs. FixIt's repairs were wrong.
I have to admit that I have been kind of harsh in past reviews of this series. Not because of the storylines but the poor use of grammar, misspellings, wrong use of tenses, etc. However, as the saying goes, you save the best for last. This was probably the best written one of the series.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this series! Easy to follow, pretty good character building and the plots weren't too convoluted. Hard to believe such a small Pennsylvania town has so much criminal elements and corruption, but hey, it's a cosy mystery! Good going Belle! Hope to see other cosy mysteries from you...heading to look now...
I loved the character development! I felt like they were friends. I was envious of Kate York for her bravery and ability to think through a problem and come up with more clues. Loved that her husband was coming to her rescue just in the nick of time. This series was filled with surprises and new plots. It didn't get old. I never wanted it to end.
Mrs. Fix It books are enjoyable and about a small town.
The books start with Kate being a handy woman in the small town of Rock Ridge, PA. Helping to put her boys through college. Farther on her old boyfriend comes back. Then the boys are around for a while. She marries Scott. And life keeps moving on with her type of adventures through each book.
This story series was more interesting than I expected. I liked the character development and the story lines. What I wanted was to have Josie's brothers come back to town and not just disappear. I was hoping that there would be another series with Kate as mayor. Please!
it took me awhile to get to this last in the series. i love the entire series and i'm kinda sorry it's over. maybe you could start a series with her as mayor, of course you could be tired of kate. anyway, i truly enjoyed this series. thank you so much for the fun mystery and mayhem.
Mysteries galore! How does one town have so many murders?
Read this and thoroughly enjoyed. The writing was fantastic and guessing who donit was somtimes surprising. A couple of grammar related errors, but the stories still held my attention. Very lengthy but loving to read these kind of stories got me to the end in less than a week.
Now I'm definitely sure they kept getting shorter lol this review is actually for #15, murder at the mansion, since I couldn't find it. I loved the perfect ending the author concocted, and I'll admit I'm sad to see the series end.
I had read one or two of the stories,.. before I found the complete 15 book offer.. Belle should offer the series to a movie producer.. because, while reading the series I pictured it as a movie, which was very enjoyable!
I am glad to have found a new author and a great new line of books to read. I would love to read more of Kate Flaherty as she is a very likable character.
Good easy reading. Small town setting where everybody knows everybody and their business. Add a little mystery, a little murder and nosy woman and you have a great read!
I really enjoyed the whole series. You need to read this series in order. There are some that you can not read without reading the one before it. Towards the end I was happy to see some of the major characters get what they deserved.
What a fantastic find d. I love that all 15 books were in a boxed set as you must read them in order. They are a great page Turing g stories that keep you guessing what and who could possibly be the murderer.
I'm a fan of series; if the characters and locale are engaging, I always want to know " more", and Mrs. Fixit and her life's adventures kept me intrigued from start to finish!
Started out slow but held my interest I read all fifteen books and enjoyed everyone. I would recommend these to any one who enjoys mysteries that continues the story.I love cosine mysteries and this did not disappoint.
I really enjoyed these books! The books were well written! The author made the characters so real that I felt they were my neighbors! I wish there were more books to read!
I was not expecting this series of "booklets" to be as much fun to read as it was. This writer has a way of writing simple words that have you literally seeing the picture she paints with her word. Fun and exciting but very simple. Good read.
So bad that I feel ashamed/sorry for the author. By book 3 I finally gave up and only went looking for spoilers just to know where her husband is. It`s actually a LOT more fun to read the negative reviews about the books than to read any part of the books themselves.
