Today’s post is on Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty, Vol. 4 by Megumi Morino. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Shizu, Tetsu, and Chihiro on it. As it is the fourth in the series you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes supernatural manga and manga with intense plots. There is no foul language no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Tetsu. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- THE MOVING FORWARD Shizu's grand scheme to get Tetsu to play soccer one last time was a big success, and has become a catalyst for change for everyone involved. One of the biggest changes comes from Chihiro, who works up the courage to tell Tetsu his biggest secret. Will this revelation tear the friends apart?
Review- Tetsu makes some peace with his past and the choices that he made. Tetsu and Chihiro have a heart-to-heart about their friendship and come back together. Shizu is getting more and more free and less afraid of the world around her but her father comes back in this volume and he wants to send her away. Now her mother has to make some choices. The plot is getting more and more intense as Shizu tries to take control of her future and not be in the power of those who don’t love her and will not care for her. Tetsu of course is trying to help her and he may get himself into some trouble to free Shizu. I am pulling for them both in this dangerous place they have found themselves. Only two more volumes to finish this series and I am anxious for these characters.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
I pretty much read dive into this series blindly, the synopsis is interesting but I didn’t expect it to be a lil on heavier side, heartwarming and heart-touching with a lil occult aspect. A lil content warning there’s 1-2 scene of physical abuse and some emotional abuse (neglect) in the series. I like how the relatable the ml is, he’s scared of occult stuff and reacted like how most people would but he try his best to handle it better and understand how others feels. He’s so caring, reliable, and emotionally strong, he’s expressive and empathetic but he’s most definitely not a pushover. I kinda sad for the fl because of her condition she’s being neglected by her own parents, think of her like Rapunzel, sure they provided her with basic necessity but none emotionally. I’m just glad she has kind souls that surrounded and try to protect, help, and encourage her to learn how to be herself. I’m glad to see the growth of not only the ml & fl but also the supporting characters. I thoroughly enjoy this series, it warms my heart. Just in case, prepare some tissue when you read this book, especially on the later volume.
this is reminding me of Every Day by David Levithan except that in this story, there are four spirits which inhabit only one vessel. it's strange for a romance novel and i think can see why not a lot of people would like this series. it's tinged with just the right amount of horror/supernatural but i'm loving everything about this. in comparison with Every Day, from what i remember, the characters in here have far more depth and the guy mc is extremely likeable and agreeable. i don't think i've read a book so far this year in which a guy protagonist really moved me. Tetsu's deeply held concern and care for his family and his pragmatic way of showing up for them was something i can certainly relate to as a capricorn. his ability to express his feelings and be vulnerable was really admirable.
other than the romance aspect, how the author handled the topic of family issues, death and the regrets and grief that comes with it in a delicate way really stood out for me. it was a completely satisfying read despite the brief sadness i felt for what the characters went through.
Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty Volume 4 is probably my favorite in the series so far. I love that Shizu is getting out into the world more. I also loved all the interactions in this volume, Tetsu, his family, Chihiro and Shizu. Certain truth's come out in this volume, which I was all for. Though I would like to state that I hate Shizu's father. I don't care that he was only in the volume for a matter of pages, I hate him. This volume does end with a cliffhanger, and I look forward to seeing what happens next!
Bora ver oq acontece.
Things you do for love, dear, it’s just so touching. :’)
Shizu is gradually become more human, that’s what I like, and despite of her father being the devil here to separate Shizu from Tetsu and the world. I’m glad Shizu has the will to live now, to know of people who love her.
Btw I really love the cover, that’s grandpa Shinobu and Tetsu and Chii >< 💕💕💕
I have a deep dislike for Shizu’s father but a great respect for Tetsu and Chihiro. I also really adore Tetsu and Chihiro’s friendship; especially how Chihiro reacts when Tetsu officially calls him a friend.
This is just so much my jam, and I love how the stories parallel -- it is not just about him 'saving' her, it is also about her 'saving' him, or rather both of them awakening each other.
