When gypsies travelling with the fair occupy the fairgrounds in the small town of Lennox, Ontario, Bridget Ellis s life as an upper-class only child changes dramatically. A fortune teller s words predicting love, hardships, and tragedy weigh on Bridget s mind as she moves from innocuous domesticity into womanhood. When Bridget meets a man with unusual green eyes, curiosity and her impulsive nature quash the sensible advice of her overbearing aunt. Moving from opulent surroundings to follow her heart along a set of train tracks, Bridget learns what life in the real world is actually like.
Tippins s latest fictional account, Wynn, is an expose of the obstacles facing an independent female spirit in the 1930s. At a time when wealthy families pressured their eligible daughters to marry well, Bridget goes beyond upsetting the expectations laid out for her future. She quickly learns the hollowness of first appearances, and while navigating through the hardships of her new life, she eventually performs the ultimate act of bravery to safeguard her loved ones and to prove her sense of independence and strength.
In wasn’t sure I would like this self-published book but to my surprise I couldn’t put it down. We follow the story of Bridgette, born to wealth and prosperity, who innocently meets a man who works at the fair, a traveling man, who woos her through the wonderful and loving letters he sends. They marry, amidst many warnings from her aunt who has raised her, and her life, and the man she loves, changes. This is an easy read, full of excitement, and I couldn’t put it down.
Another fantastic read from a local author in my wee corner of Canada. Her heart-felt stories covers all emotions...start off happy then sad & heart-rending & back to happiness at the end. Another hard-to-put-down read.
