I actually won this book forever ago and kind of forgot about it but I'm glad I noticed it on my Kindle and decided to give it a try. There were times that the story felt a little rushed and not finished, but overall I enjoyed these characters and the overall story. We got to meet some side characters that had me intrigued so it certainly won't be the only book I read from this author.

Seducing Fortune is the third book in the Serendipity Series by the talented Brinda Berry. Dylan Mercado, has taken over his father’s car business after his father was forced to retire because of health issues. He has always been a playboy, taking home one woman after the next, never committing to anyone. Emerson, is a former stripper turned housekeeper for Dylan and his roommates, Jordy and Collin. They have always been friendly with each other but after a brief dancing encounter one night they both secretly have feelings for the other. Unfortunately, neither one of them is willing to let down the walls they have built up from their tumultuous past.
Emerson is living life, raising her sister Gabby, working hard and trying to forget about the fact that her father is in prison. She still can’t believe that she was once a stripper but also doesn’t want that to define her. She has spent so long, not letting anyone into her life that she is stunned when Dylan takes her off guard. “I’m normally a good liar. Someone asks how I’m doing and I pull on my hunky-dory mask. Another mentions my dad in the federal penitentiary and I act as though it doesn’t bother me. My real feelings are buried deep, a grave of emotions. No visitors allowed.”
Dylan, has a good reason for not letting anyone in and it’s one no one would ever know. He was left devastated one time in his past, and has found it’s not always better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all. He also comes from a family where money seems to be the only important thing, instead of relationships.
Each of them have their own impressions of the other, but soon discover that they don’t really know anything each other. They discover that their version of the truth may not be the truth at all. “The enormity of my prejudices slams me. It’s not like I expected a silver pole in the middle of the room. But I don’t expect ex-strippers to be ex-homecoming queens.”
While Emerson is working out her feelings for Dylan from afar, she meets Toby a nice guy who wants to date her and just happened to be there when she needed help. He continues to reach out to her, help her in her times of distress, and be compassionate. Her father’s past and misdealing’s soon come back to haunt her and she is left having to fight to survive while trying to protect the ones she loves. She is forced to keep secrets from those around her, but doesn’t realize that the people around her have been keeping secrets a very long time. Not everything is as it seems and things may have been put in motion long before she even realized. The twists and turns this story takes will keep you guessing and maybe rooting for the people you shouldn’t be.
Will Emerson and Toby end up happy? Will she break his heart and take the less safe road to Dylan? Can Dylan, let go of his past hurt and truly be committed to one woman and no matter what they decide will any of them survive?
I loved Brinda Berry’s writing style, which kept the story flowing non-stop. It is refreshing to read a book that has romance, love, pain, sorrow, and so much more without only focusing on the sexual aspects. She writes a classy novel that will be appealing to women everywhere and does a great job of bringing the reader into the characters’ lives.

Received a copy of SEDUCING FORTUNE from the author in exchange for an honest review.
In the previous SERENDIPITY book, TEMPTING FATE... let me tell you how much I despised Emerson.
A lot.
She wasn't exactly the nicest of girls.
However in this story, you can't help but feel for the girl as you learn more about her. Everything you think you know about Emerson...? Well, just be prepared to have a new and improved opinion of her.
If there's one thing that Dylan holds over Emerson's head, it's her history of stripping. As their relationship starts growing, though, it is Emerson who uses that as her clutch -- but Dylan tries and puts a kibosh to that.
These two go through a lot of growing in this book -- both carry heavy baggage. Emerson's life wasn't always what it has been the last few years. She was the girl to look up to, the one with money and looks and friends. She was the cheerleader and dating the quarterback. Because of her father, though, she's had to make serious changes. Now, she's working too many jobs, trying to go to school, and taking care of her 19-year old sister. And trust? Let's not get started on that. The people in her life that she thought she trust, the ones who were supposed to be there for you at every turn, ruined that trust so handing over her heart, willingly? So not going to happen.
At first, Dylan does his best to ignore Emerson -- and when he ends up in jail, it's her he calls.
Dylan and Emerson had very little interaction up until this point. They made out once (the 1% in relation to that other 99% she mentions), but this is mainly because Dylan can't wrap his head around all that is Emerson. In addition to holding her stripping over her head, he tends to be an ass where she's concerned. Boyfriend needed to work on his socialization skills.
Dylan has secrets that he's absolutely positive will throw a wrench in whatever this is that they have going for them, so he chooses to keep things to himself -- only to find out his friends (err... or just one) have been holding back, too.
So in the end... I liked Collin and Veronica's story. It was cute and fun and different. I really liked Emerson and Dylan's story. Watching these two emotionally closed off people find that one person to open them up? I'll definitely be re-reading again and again.

Once again, Berry created a story that pulled me in. This lady has a knack for doing just that. I become so in love with the characters and the story line, I'll gladly stay in the world she created. For one, we mingle with past characters we've read before. And if you read the other books in the series, that in itself is a delight. They are amazing characters. Friends even.
The moment I met the characters, Emerson and Dylan, I immediately had to know what was the driving force behind the way the acted and reacted to others. Both the male and female leads have a past that is secretive and full of pain. Both have used their past as an excuse to live their lives the way they do now. So reading about them and their struggles made me adore them that much more. I have such a soft spot for them.
Wonderful and suspenseful storyline, this book had me on the edge of my virtual seat. I never saw the twists coming. And I love that about a book; so kudos for pulling one over on me. That made the read all the more exciting!! Could this book be a stand alone? Sure. But I have loved the series so much; I definitely recommend the first two as well. 5 Stars!!

Overall I liked this book. Emerson is being watched and things are happening to her. She is just trying to get on with her life after everything with her dad. Dylan is her boss and they both like each other. However, Emerson refuses to give him a chance. Thankfully in the end she gives him a chance and they are happy.

Loved reading this book with a story line instead of page after page w/ nothing but pure sex .......
Worried about the two sisters getting hurt physically. , loved that they all seemed to have a few morals...they all seemed to really care about their friends.

I’ve come to expect fast-paced, entertaining stories from author Brinda Berry, and her most recent project, Seducing Fortune, is no exception.
With this novel, there’s no lull at the start that leaves us wondering when the MCs will finally share the same scene. After only a couple of pages, the two have been thrust together again, and the tension that exists between them becomes abundantly clear. If you have read Tempting Fate, Dylan and Emerson will not be new to you. (Although this novel is part of the author’s “Serendipity” series, it can easily be read as a standalone.)
Dylan and Emerson begin as emotionally closed-off characters, both for their own reasons.
In my opinion, Dylan is completely unlikable at the outset. He has this idea of what all strippers (or ex-strippers) must be like, and he relegates Emerson to that close-minded box until he gathers enough information to perceive her differently. Even so, I’m proud of Emerson for standing up for herself:
Now, Emerson I liked. She has a backbone, as the above quote demonstrates, and she doesn’t fawn all over Dylan or excuse his poor behavior just because he’s attractive and financially stable. Basically serving as guardian for her sister, Emerson is shouldering a lot of responsibility. When she has to, she makes tough decisions to ensure their survival and overall well-being. She’s a hard worker—both as a student and an employee—and she volunteers what little free time she has to help a friend by babysitting.
Of course, we see glimpses of Collin and Veronica (Tempting Fate) and Ace and Malerie (Chasing Luck), which is a treat. And we get to know Jordy, the roommate/friend of Dylan and Collin, a little better.
This novel has a myriad of elements to keep readers interested, with mystery, crime, violence, and (of course) romance being among them. In addition to that, this author has a really engaging writing style in which one sentence flows effortlessly into the next and the same goes for paragraphs, scenes, and chapters.
Like its predecessors, Seducing Fortune is a quick, enjoyable read. I look forward to more from Brinda Berry.

Emerson works 3 jobs to help her and her sister survive. She used to be a rich, spoiled girl - but that was before her father stole from his investors and went to jail. She is going to school and suddenly meeting all these guys that wants to ask her out.
Dylan has secrets too. He even knows who turned her father in. He is just not sure if her can tell Emerson about it without her going off on him and walking out. Can her talk her into giving him a chance when all these new guys, the FBI and her jobs, her sister and more take up all of her time? Where does he fit in?
This was such a cute story and I was glad to see it come out and for them to get their own book. This is book # 3 in the Serendipity series, and more information can be found here at Goodreads about it. I likes the banter between them and enjoyed every page! Very hard to put down.

Brinda Berry never disappoints her reader and this one is proof positive!! I loved the first two books in this series however I think this one is my favorite thus far!!
As always the characters are so well developed; smart, talented, troubled yet snarky which always makes for a fun read! My favorite of the female characters at this point would have to be Emerson...brutally honest, independent, smart, troubled (thanks to dad's poor decisions) and sarcastic...an all around great character.
Ace for the guys (sorry Dylan, I love you too)! He is my new Book Boyfriend...age doesn't matter where it's pretend right? LOL
This story line had me from the very beginning...I literally couldn't put it down; of course so far all Brinda's books have been for me.
Although I liked the ending...my feeling is that there is more to Emerson and Gabby's story, well, their Dad's story really...some missing pieces to his puzzle that were left unresolved. Maybe to be solved with a Gabby story? Guess I will have to wait and see!!

Dylan likes to think he's suave, "baby, you need better foreplay in your life.” He flashes me a confident grin." Dylan really needs to work on his game at times, "her voice is tight. “Okay . I get it. You want to have sex. Message received.” She presses her hands against me and moves out of my embrace." His girl's underwear choices gives him one-half of a surprise, "it takes only a quick tug to peel the tank from her body and reveal a sheer black bra. “Ah hell." I liked this book the sex scenes black out so teens can read this book and I just really enjoyed Dylan.

A Good Read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I don't read too many fiction books. I started reading it as I got it for free. I was well and truly hooked. It is a readable book. I had to finish it. It has enough intrigue and flow to make you keep reading. I liked the idea of reading the story from the point of view of the two peotagonists Enerson and Dylan.

I couldn't discern the fate of Emerson and Dylan until the very end, and that's a sign of a good book. This story was fun at times, sexy at others, frequently suspenseful, and sometimes sad. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Looking forward to the next one from Brinda Berry!

It was okay. It was obvious Toby was part of Rafa's team. I wanted to know what happened to the dog, Diesel at the end though. I'm a dog lover and have to think of the dog, so that's why I gave this book 4 stars. I need to know what happened to Diesel.

I met this author at a comic convention in LR and bought this box set immediately. I fell in love with all the characters in this series. I cannot wait for Jordys book as well.

I've read the whole series and enjoyed all the books. I cried on all three because I felt so bad for the girls. I was happy they found a good man to love them.

Emerson receives a call from her boss, Dylan, asking her to bail him out of jail. Her very gorgeous boss. Emerson is fully aware that Dylan isn't into commitments; also glaringly obvious is because she cleans his house and runs across items that don't belong to him.
Both, Emerson and Dylan have been hurt in the past. Emerson fears the baggage she carries is too much for someone to handle.
Emerson is trying to work her way through college while taking care of her younger sister, Gabby. So when Dylan asks if she has a boyfriend, she tells him that yes, she does. So, when a mishap with her car happens, and she gets a ride to Dylan's home, he thinks the guy is her boyfriend and his jealousy leaks out. Dylan makes a crude comment to Emerson.
When Emerson receives a call from Gabby, that their apartment was broken into; and a neighbor shares something he's noticed, Dylan realizes that he wants nothing more than to protect Emerson. Dylan convinces Emerson to hang out just as friends, and when he pushes for more, Emerson sets down a rule; but when she breaks her own rule it is Gabby, who gets Dylan do some rethinking.
When Emerson calls Dylan asking about a secret, and he admits he knew, all their chances may be over!
I loved how spunky Emerson was, she's had to take on some less than acceptable jobs, but is working to better herself. Where she is at now, is not how she started in life, but she's made lemonade from the lemons. Until Dylan shares about his past, I questioned his character, but I can see how he'd want to protect himself again. I, also; loved how the characters from the previous books make an appearance.

When Emerson calls Dylan asking about a secret, and he admits he knew, all their chances may be over!
I loved how spunky Emerson was, she's had to take on some less than acceptable jobs, but is working to better herself. Where she is at now, is not how she started in life, but she's made lemonade from the lemons. Until Dylan shares about his past, I questioned his character, but I can see how he'd want to protect himself again. I, also; loved how the characters from the previous books make an appearance.

Great book!!!!
This was a free book that I new nothing about. It was a pleasant surprise to have it be so good.. I loved all the characters but especially Dylan and Emerson.. This book has it all.. a MUST read!!!

Seducing Fortune is the first book that I have ever read by Brinda Berry. This is the third book in her Serendipity series, but each book can be read as a standalone. The characters are interconnected, but it is not necessary to read these in order. I feel like this is sort of a hard review for me to write because while there were things that I really loved about this book, there were also things that I had a hard time with as well. This one left me with mixed feelings, but I am curious to read the first two books in this series to see if they have the same issues for me or if it was just this book.
Emerson works several jobs in order to support herself and her younger sister. While trying to balance her jobs, she is also attending school. What she doesn't have time for is dating, especially not Dylan who is the last kind of guy that she needs. Dylan and Emerson shared a kiss one night, and it was never mentioned again. Dylan is playboy type that doesn't settle down with one girl for long. But when Emerson starts receiving threats, Dylan is determined to look out for her. Dylan wants a shot with Emerson, but can he convince her to take a chance on him? The more Emerson gets to know Dylan, the more she realizes she doesn't know about him. But will they be able to get past themselves as well as the danger Emerson finds herself in to have a chance at something together?
I liked both Dylan and Emerson, but they both frustrated me a lot as well. Both of them made assumptions about one another and didn't really allow the other to inform them differently. Dylan was especially bad about this, and I really hated that he kept on doing it. Though he had his sweet and thoughtful moments, he would revert right back at the first sign of something bad. Emerson was trying to handle everything on her own, and I wanted her to let someone in. She seemed to feel as though she couldn't ask for help, and it was really frustrating to see her keep others at arm's length. These two were clearly attracted to one another and had a lot of chemistry together, but they also had a really tough time being honest and talking to each other. I am convinced that the majority of their issues could have been solved with better communication, and while I understand part of that is what makes up the conflict in this story, it got old.
My biggest issue with this book is that while this story started off really strong and I was loving it, the middle slowed way down and I found myself losing interest. There was so much going on and so many players that I felt like it just bogged the whole thing down. Suddenly there was a ton going on with Dylan's roommates and their girls, Emerson's sister, Toby, and Emerson's neighbors etc. It just got to be too much and I felt like it got out of hand. By the end of the story it really felt like I didn't know which way was up or down, who was good or bad, and what was really happening. I missed the romance in all the other stuff that was going on, and it seemed as though the relationship beginning between Emerson and Dylan was no longer at the heart of this story but rather a side story that didn't much matter. While I enjoy some suspense and twists in a story, I read romance for the main couple and I just felt like that got lost in everything else here. So while this was a potentially great story, it just fell flat for me. I am curious about the previous two books after having seen those characters in this book, but I am not sure that I would rush right out to get them. I will give Brinda Berry another shot in the future, and I am sure that I will get around to reading the rest of this series. This one just wasn't what I had been expecting.

Seducing Fortune by Brinda Berry reads like a high school showcase of improv theatre. It is comical in its clumsiness and lacks any continuity. In short, I would rather stick a pine cone up my arse than read another word of this drivel.
This book found its way onto my kindle when it was offered as a free download. Seducing Fortune is the third and final book in Berry's Serendipity series. The story follows Emerson, an ex-stripper, who is attempting to navigate handling multiple jobs, attending college, falling for Dylan (her boss), as well as traversing the problems that come with having a father convicted of treason and the subsequent FBI investigation into her life. There is also a sister to look after and a stalker in the mix. (I swear I did not make up this synopsis).
I initially attempted to read this back in 2017 and it ended up on my DNF shelf. Now in 2020, I decided to try again as I had no recollection as to why I never finished it. I really wish I hadn't. Berry's characters are hollow to the point where this book is neither character nor plot-driven, but author-driven. Assuming I didn't miss a section where everyone ingests psychedelics and suffers psychotic-breaks, the absence of character motivation has the protagonists making delusional decisions that have no foundation in reality; so you want to commit espionage? Was Saturn not in your stars? Did a rhinoceros fart and cause an earthquake in Azerbaijan? Or maybe it was Wednesday and someone didn't wear pink?
Having never read any of Berry's previous works, I cannot attest to her integrity as a romance author, but this book reads as though she wanted to write a book that spanned multiple romance sub-genres but lacked the conviction to do so due to an impending deadline. The pacing of this book stalls at multiple points throughout and relies entirely on the author to chopper-drop new elements or characters into the story to keep it going.
Furthermore, the book's overall tension (and I use the words plot and tension quite wrongly in this instance) is held together on the assumption that the characters never speak to each other for longer than 10 minutes, which is precisely what happens. Had the two leading characters sat down to talk in length at any point, the single strand of hair holding this story together would have disintegrated.
Reading this book is like being on the edge of group gossip; the story that you make up in your head with the information available to you is much better than the truth. Turns out the mail boy wasn't in the janitor's closet in the buff with an empty jar of peanut butter and a broken vacuum cleaner; he was just pilfering an envelope so that he could send his ailing Nanna a get well card (I know which story I would prefer to read).
So, if you enjoy never really knowing what is going on, being nauseated by character action, and continually asking questions like "Who the Fuck is Bailey"? Don't waste a second more. Trample old ladies to get this book if you have to because it will blow your freakin' mind.

Seducing Fortune is the third book in Brinda Berry’s Serendipty series. While it is a series all the books can be read as a standalone. While I have never read the first book in the series it is still easy to follow the storyline. Each book concentrates on a different character. The characters are interconnected which is nice when you have read the previous books. You can easily see how all the other characters are doing and how their lives are planning out.
Emerson her life is not easy. She works several jobs so she can support herself and her younger sister while going to college. So she has no time for boys, especially not for the ones she knows are trouble. Dylan is the last guy on earth she should be thinking about. Everywhere he goes he leaves a trail of broken hearts. Commitment is not a word that is in his vocabulary. Still Emerson cannot help but be attracted to him. To her surprise Dylan is the one who looks out for her when she starts to receive threats. Will Emerson give in to Dylan’s pursuit of her or will she resist even if it will break her heart?
Dylan and Emerson were both likeable characters. Dylan at first sight seems to be this carefree guy whose only concern is which girl he will pursuit next. But then when you get to know him better you find out that he is a good guy and that he has his reasons to not get too close to anyone. While he still had many flaws, like making assumptions about other people without getting to know them first, he was actually a really sweet guy. He really grew on me during the book. Emerson is a though girl, she learned how to fend for herself a couple of years ago when her father managed to ruin her entire family. Since then she does everything on her own, reluctant to accept anyone’s help. I was a bit frustrated at times with her because she kept pushing everyone away even though it was clear they only wanted the best for her.
What bothered me in this book was that the middle of the book was a bit slow and then the ending felt rushed. I believe that the story could have been paced out better. But this is the only concern I have with this book, other than that I really liked it. So while I might not have enjoyed it as much as the previous book in this series I still found it good read. This is the first book I've read by Brinda Berry and it won't be the last. The story is well written and flows extremely well. We learn about Emerson's early life, pre-daddy in jail, her crazy mother, and why she guards her heart. We also learn why Dylan is such a "man whore" and treats women like a disposable object. The author does a great job of pulling the reader into Emerson and Dylan's struggle with their feelings for each other. You want to root for them in one chapter and smack Dylan with a 2x4 the next. But when stuff gets real, Dylan proves he's the man to capture Emerson's heart.

Seducing Fortune was a page turner from the start.
WithBeleivable characters,and the right amount of romance,had me cheering for Dylan in this book.
A great read for a relaxing afternoon!

OMG I Loved This Book!
Emerson has to be one of my favorite heroines. Even though she's been through a bunch of dark times, she still has an innocence and hope about her. And Dylan!! *fans self*

At A Snails Pace
