Blake Karrington is more than an author. He’s a storyteller who places his readers in action-filled moments. It’s in these creative spaces that readers are allowed to get to know his complex characters as if they’re really alive.
Most of Blake’s titles are in the South in urban settings that are often overlooked by the mainstream. But through Blake’s eyes, readers quickly learn that places like Charlotte, NC can be as gritty as they come. It’s in these streets of this oft overlooked world where Blake portrays murderers and thieves alike as believable characters. Without judgement, he weaves humanizing backstories that serve up compelling reasons for why a drug dealer might choose a life of crime.
Readers of speak of the roller coaster ride of emotions that ensues from feeling anger at empathetic characters who always seem to do the wrong thing at the right to keep the story moving forward.
In terms of setting,Blake’s stories introduce his readers to spaces they may or may not be used to - streetscapes with unkept, cracked sidewalks where poverty prevails, times are depressed and people are broke and desperate. In Blake storytelling space, morality is so curved that rooting for bad guys to get away with murder can sometimes seem like the right thing for the reader to do - even when it’s not.
Readers who connect with Blake find him to be relatable. Likening him to a bad-boy gone good, they see a storyteller who writes as if he’s lived in world’s he generously shares, readily conveying his message that humanity is everywhere, especially in the unlikely, mean streets of cities like Charlotte.
I really didn't know what to expect when I first started reading this book but then it took off. I didn't like anything about Chaz. He didn't appreciate his main lady, and wasn't with her when she gave birth to his daughter. He was caught up in the drug scene and the more money he made, the more he wanted to seal his popularity in the hood and on the drug.scene. I liked Qwen and Boo Boo. Mann got on my nerves. Finally when Saint decided to clean his act up, he was murdered. I didn't like the side chicks and what Neeta did was uncalled for because she just wanted the number one title and more money and status. Overall this was a good book and became a page turner.
Chez wanted it all! Monyae just wanted her man and all the other hood rats did too! Chez and his crew are from 3rd ward in NJ and their arch enemy Mann, Ice and others want to kill Chez and his crew. Supreme is called to help his cousin out and when Satin one of Chez’s boys is killed it’s on! Meanwhile Chez, Quentin, Boo-Boo and Dresser are on the warpath and these women better be on the lookout because Mann and his crew bars none. Supreme is from the VA and he’s has his own plans. When tragedy strikes for real, I do not know who will be the last woman standing because these boys are going down!! Part 2!!
Chez should had know to keep his shit on him at all time he shouldn't been slipping I hope Monya wait up don't trust no one I don't care how much attention or loving u need always be ten steps ahead especially when your man don't come home at night u know he is doing something
I would have given this book 5 stars had it not been for me hating the main character, Chez. I skipped over most of the parts with Chez sleeping with EVERY female he saw. It was a little too much for me. He even wanted the women that would be talking to his friends. Other than him I liked the guys on his team especially Warn.
From the title alone, I thought this was going to be a very good book, it was just ok.
Chez is just coming home from serving a bid and he is determined to rise to the top. It doesn't matter who he has to step on or kill to get there. With the help of his 3rd Ward crew he sets up to take over his hood.
Enduring countless heartbreak, due to Chez's womanizing ways, Monya, is feed up. With more money that she can spend at her disposal, Monya will give it up just so her and Chez can be a family and enjoy their daughter. But what is the old saying, one man's trash is another man's treasure....
After one of Chez's homies is viciously murdered, and his muderer is none other than members from a rival crew, blood is spilled in the streets.
There was nothing that set this story apart from any other "hood" book that I have read. I don't even remember most of the characters names. With Chez being the main character, I should feel something for him, sorry, couldn't find anything. I thought he deserved what happened to him at the end of the book.
Also, I'm tired of authors writing books where you have to read three or four books before the story is concluded. I need to get in on this hustle.
This was a good book. I'm just upset that once again it's another book that I will be waiting for a sequel on. Throughout the story I could not stand Chaz and his hoeish ways! There were moments where the story went from 1st person to 3rd person within the same chapter. I am looking forward to reading more from this author
3.5 STARS This was an ok read. The entertaining part came more at the end of the book. It kinda dragged on talking more of Chez infidelities most times. More action and drama of his enemies would have been nice. The way it ended makes me want more so I am hoping for more excitement in part 2. Thanks!
I LOVE THIS BOOK BLAKE HAS DONE IT AGAIN THIS BOOK IS FIYAH. I CAN'T WAIT FOR PT 2 I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN A PAGE TURNER FROM BEGINNING TO END. I GIVE THIS BOOK 5 STARS A MUST READ U WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. IF U HAVEN'T READ IT GO GET IT NOW AND GET YOUR READ ON TO A GOOD BOOK'!!!!!!
Your usual tale of drugs, beautiful, bodacious women, mind blowing sex, money, experacter .sive cars, and murder. No memorable scenes or characters...same story, different day. Disappointed me because the title promised an intriguing read.
I thought this was the full book but it was a sample a tease! So far so good I am going to purchase the whole book. Okay now I have read the whole book and was pleased! I sure hope for a part two! A good read!
So far so good...I just hope that boy stops messing around on the love of his life..I do understand how you can be in love and still have eyes but he is risking a great love.
Good read! Envy in the streets over the mighty blood money. Chez came up in the streets but neglected his family at home. Having it all want last long. Can't wait to read more.
I did this book in audible. I enjoyed the book but did not like the narrator. Chez is a trip (a hoe). He will find out his selfish ways will be his undoing. I can't wait to read book 2.
