It is a story of fathers and sons, coming of age, and choices. King Henry IV is aging and his heir Prince Hal spends way too much time in a tavern with drunkards and thieves. The tension between the Lancasters & Yorks is always there and a rebellion is forming against King Henry IV. The King needs to see that Prince Hal can rise to the occasion and demonstrate he might have what it takes to be a strong leader & king and not be in the mold of the feckless Richard II. Falstaff is a comedic foil but also has more depth & insight than he lets on, his influence on Prince Hal is considerable, but is Falstaff really who you want to be in your inner circle of confidantes? The great battle of Shrewsbury is the turning point and sets up for the next part of the story Henry IV, Part II
