I've always loved books, especially about monsters and magic, so I started writing. I'm working on a prequel and the next few books in the Others of Edenton series, and I have a head full of stories to share.

I'm a stay at home mother with a wonderful husband who lets me write and write to my hearts content.

* I received an ebook from the author with no expectations. This review is an honest, unbiased review.*

I have read all of the previous books in the Combustible series, as well as the paranormal romance The Others Of Edenton by author Brandy Rivers and she is able to rock both genres as only a true author can! This is technically book 4 in the combustible series, but it can be read as a stand alone....I would read the prior three, but that is because I love the series and some of the characters will be making appearances in this story. It isn't necessary to understand this book, but there really isn't a good reason why you wouldn't...

This book centers around Dave Metcalf (a firefighter) and Marissa Cortez (a police officer). They had an all too brief romance for one weekend 11 years ago that neither has ever forgotten or gotten over when chance throws them together again for what both hope can be much more than another weekend. They must both overcome some obstacles (both new and old) to make this time work, but they are ready this time. The reader can't help but root for them - they laugh with them, cry with them, yell at them and at times just want to grab them and shake them while asking them WTF?!? Then the reader remembers that they are not really their friends, that they are characters in a book...

The plot is fast moving, the characters are relatable and compelling and the reader never wants the story to end, while at the same time needing to know what happens! The author does an amazing job with keeping the reader on the edge of their seat while at the same time leading them straight into what they hope is a happy ending. The readers instantly fall in love with Ashton and with the kindness that his characters shows to everyone around him, and at the same time they curse Metcalf's ex wife even when she is in dire need of compassion.

This book delivers all of the feels that a reader can have and it does it well. This is one of my favorite series and even after just finishing it I am already impatient for the next book. The author just can't write them fast enough for me! I love everything about this series, the characters and the town that the author has created! I need more and I need it now!

Add this one and her previous books to your TBR list and add them soon, as this is a can't miss, must read series! Sit back, enjoy and be prepared to be wowed!

Oh where do I start with Backburn, it was a wonderful amazing romance. It had a little suspense, little laughs, some tears, lot of hot sizzling sex, it had a little of everything I love in a great read, kept me turning the page.

The flame blazed in Metcalf & Marissa’s passion eleven years ago, but circumstances burned it out, but eleven years later it ignited once again at a chance meeting, and flame was hotter than ever. Marissa is reluctant at first starting a relationship again with Metcalf, but Metcalf never gives up, he knows there is something still there between Marissa and him. I just feel in love with Metcalf’s little boy Ashton, he was a smart caring 10 year old, with everything he was going through with his mother, he wanted Marissa to be part of their life from the moment he knew she maybe his dad’s girlfriend. Now Ashton’s mother, Metcalf’s ex-wife was nothing but a witch (I really want to but a b instead of a w but I am being nice).

If you are looking for weekend read, a page turner, with a little suspense, a few giggles and hot steamy sex I recommend you pick up a copy of Backburn. You will not be able to put it down. Brandy L. Rivers has won a new reader in this gal! As soon as I can I am loading the other three books in Combustile series.

I receieved a copy for my honest review!

Talk about an ending I did not see coming! Ha. I usually have my theories as I read suspense novels, but with Backburn, I was at a loss. I swiped the pages with a need to find out "who the bad guy was" because I honestly had no idea. I mean, all my theories got tossed out the window as the story progressed! Loved that! It kept me intrigued the entire time.

Dave Metcalf...there's nothing that anyone could NOT love about this man. Right off the bat, my heart yearned for him, but then it swooned completely. Nothing sexier, to me, than a great father! And Marissa? I loved her character ever since she got introduced in the other books. She's strong despite her insecurities in the love department which was something I truly enjoyed. She wasn't weak in any way, shape, or form. A truly great female lead! I also loved her relationship with Ashton, Metcalf's son. It was heartwarming to see her put him first always.

As always, the author included some HOT scenes right along with the suspenseful ones making this a must read Romantic Suspense. The ending....man, I loved it!! It was perfect for Metcalf and Marissa and just what they not only needed, but deserved! Once again, five stars to a Brandy L Rivers book!

Backburn is the fourth book in Brandy L Rivers Combustible series. Each book can be read as a standalone. I read this book without reading the previous three in the series and I loved it. It was an easy read and had a fast moving pace.

The main characters are very realistic and the secondary characters were also awesome. We follow Dave and Marissa's relationship as they investigate a string of fires. There were plenty of suspects to keep you guessing who may be the cause.

This is a first for me by Brandy L Rivers and it sure won't be the last, I'll be definitely going back to read her previous books.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is my first book from Brandy L Rivers. It will not be my last. I understand that this is part of a series, however it works perfectly as a stand-alone. Everything about this book was hot.

Dave Metcalf is a fireman, also serving as the station's arson investigator. He is recovering from PTSD after watching an arsonist deliberately burn to death as the house went down around the two of them. He is also the devoted father to his son Ashton. Marissa is the detective assigned to a string of arson fires and working alongside Metcalf. To complicate matters, the pair once shared a weekend over a decade ago that made a lasting impact on both. The attraction and feelings still exist.

This is a steamy romance that deals with complex and heartbreaking family issues and the arson investigation mystery. It's a story of second chances; taking advantage of missed opportunities, and taking emotional risks. The pacing is excellent, it has a good amount of twists and turns, and the outcome is not obvious. Backburn is a well written book; the plot is solid. The characters are fully developed and supported by a large strong cast of friends and family. Ashton adds a level of emotional depth with the adults. There's plenty of heartfelt moments between Marissa and Metcalf and involving Ashton. Marissa's brothers add a nice dose of humor. A worthy read!

Never back down, never give up!

This is a great series about the love and camaraderie at a small town firehouse. There is suspense, comedy, craziness, and passion. Though it is the fourth book in the series, you could read it standalone and not be lost. And now a bit about the story...

In the past, Metcalf went through a really rough patch, an arsonist shot him and he had to watch the man burn alive. It took him a long time to come out of the rabbit hole he had burrowed himself in. In the meantime his wife got back together with the man she had cheated on him with years ago. If it wasn't for his son, he would have left years ago. Now to the future, Marissa has come back into his life. The woman he fell for when separated the first time. But just as they start to get close all kinds of crazy breaks loose. Will she run again, will he fall again? Read the story to find out, you won't be disappointed!

Favorite passages:
- “Asshole should have grown a set and kept you.”
- “I do love a sexy woman in uniform,” he murmured in her ear.
- “My wife hates me. I’m an asshole. And my foot itches like crazy even though the damned thing isn’t there.”

Backburn is the fourth installment in the Combustible Series by Brandy L Rivers. Marissa Cortez is a detective that has bad luck with love. So, to not only protect her heart but to also never be dependent on a man, she has always kept them at arm’s length. That is until a case brings her in contact with someone who brought out the fire in her. Dave Metcalf has never been able to forget Marissa. So when the opportunity presents itself, he finds himself determined to win her back. Read their story as they try to solve a case of arson fires, while figuring out if they have a chance of making things work.

This series is an enjoyable read. The plot and characters are well thought out and have a HEA. However, I must say this particular installment has so far been my favorite. There is love, passion, intrigue and mystery. Just when I thought I had it figured out the author throws in a twist I did not see coming. I would definitely recommend this series if you are looking for something that has a HEA.

I had never read anything by this author before. That is just something that has been happening to me a lot. I am loving discovering new authors and writing styles that stay with me. I got this book as an ARC in exchange for a review, but I got the better deal. It was a great book.
There is a little fire that must happen between two ex-lovers who are on a hot trail to be loves again. They must join forces to stop an arsonist that has set a series of fires. There is a lot going on for Detective Cortez and Fireman Metcalf. There is a tangle of hoses when his son in introduced to the mix. They have to take the chance of getting burned to see if this will all work out in their favor and catch the fire bug in the process. You will have to fill in the details when you read it yourself. Happy reading.

I love Brandy L Rivers' books and have read both her paranormal and contemporary romance books. This was paricularly great for me in that not only did it include characters from the previous books in this series but one of the characters was reading one of her Paranormal books :-)
As always the characters were well written. There is nothing worse than reading characters that just don't appeal or fluctuate throughout the book. That never happens in this author's books, they are always consistent.
A thoroughly good read though maybe not quite as gripping as the previous.

Eleven years after what amounted to nothing more than a fling, Marissa and Metcalf have a second chance! Much like the first time, there are outside forces threatening to tear them apart. Backburn is a romantic suspense novel that has everything to be a great story. There is the prefect blend of playfulness and steaminess, romance and suspense, love and fear.

This was the first Brandy L. Rivers book I read and did not realize that Backburn was the fourth book in a series until I had finished the book/ It absolutely can be read as a standalone! I think I will be checking out the rest of the series, because I truly enjoyed the characters and want to get to know them better!

A string of arsons has Detective Marissa Cortez willing to pair up with an old flame to find the firebug. Ignoring the rekindled chemistry proves more difficult than she imagined. Seasoned fireman, Dave Metcalf, has a sea of regrets. With a new lease on life and a chance run-in, he has no intention of letting Marissa go again. Both are battling exes, emotional demands from the past, and an arsonist that is eerily similar to one four years ago. A great read of two adults standing up for what they want in life.

I absolutely love Metcalf and Marissa, and can't forget Ashton. This was one incredible story to add to this series. I couldn't stand his ex-wife and her husband Brett, they made quite the pair. This story had some twists and just when you think you have things figured out, think again. It's one of those stories you have to read for yourself because I don't wanna give nothing away. I received a copy for a voluntary review. Love her stories she's an awesome writer.

In this 4th book by Brandy L. Rivers we follow more people in Lakeridge. This time we follow Officer Marissa Cortez and Fireman Dave Metcalf. They have history together, but a case makes them work together to make the town Lakeridge a safer place. One again Brandy has written a story that is so freaking real :) I mean I could see this story play out in real life.
The struggles these people have feels so real and relatable. I love that they are both stubborn people, but both with hearts of gold and they are still in touch with reality. Every person in these books has a special bond to another person in these books = again relatable.
This couple has their struggles about if they should be on or off, while dealing with family, jobs and friend. A really great read.
This book could be read as a stand-alone, but is so much better if you read the other 3 in the series, just to understand the people of Lakeridge :)

This series gets better and better. I enjoyed seeing Metclaf and Marissa’s story. This is a great love story of two people who came together, drifted apart, only to find their way back to one another.
Metcalf went through a dark patch in his life as he watched a man burn alive. Then his wife left him and moved away taking their son with him. He has his life back together with his ex-wife drops their son at his doorstep and arsons are starting back up again. Metcalf now finds himself paired with Marissa to find out who is responsible for the arsons.
Marissa is a little leery of starting things with Metcalf. For starters they are now working together as a team on an assignment and two he left her once for his ex-wife. Will dealing with everything Metcalf has going on in his life and dealing with work be too much for Marissa? Will she stick it out or turn the other way?
I enjoyed the passion between these two and the love both of them had for Ashton. Being able to catch up with the other firefighters was a bonus. Marissa’s brother, Isandro, will learn to knock before entering his sister’s house from now on or he may get more than he bargained for…LOL. I loved Bulldogs overprotectiveness when it comes to Marissa but loved hi protectiveness over his best friend more.
I enjoy Brandy’s contemporary romance books just as much as her paranormal books. She never lets me down her females are never weak and her males are alpha without being over the top. I am already ready for the next hot firefighter.
Favorite lines:
“Hey, like I said, don’t chew him up and spit him out and I’m fine with it.”
“Whatever, go back to your woman, Bulldog.”

“What do I win?” she whispered.
“What do you want?” he murmured.
“A do-over.”

“What do you want?”
He trailed his fingers along her tight abs. “This. You and me. Want to see what’s between us.”

description

Heat and drama are plentiful…
Heat is coming from more than arson fires as Dave Metcalf and Marissa Cortez are reunited to solve the mystery and re-ignite a relationship long since abandoned. This is the fourth in the series and the drama, the mystery and the emotion are as high as ever!
There is so much going on here it is hard to focus on one thing… Dave and Marissa have history. What broke them apart so many years ago may not exist anymore but that certainly doesn’t mean smooth sailing this time around. If relationship obstacles weren’t enough there is danger on every call as an arsonist is causing havoc once again…
Dave and Marissa are in interesting couple with a second chance to get it right. Marissa’s kindness and love for both Dave and his son is both sweet and calming amidst the chaos that they find themselves in. While some of the drama feels contrived at times, that doesn’t mean I don’t turn each page quickly, eager to find out what shoe drops next.
Through it all, Dave is trying to do the right thing and equally determined to finally win Marissa’s heart. Balancing his new situation, and the work challenges they both face, is going to mean their second time courtship is going to be as bumpy as the first!
Despite a writing style that I still struggle with, I can’t resist this author’s penchant for over the top drama and characters that handle it all with humour and heart.

Wow...Blackburn by Brandy L. Rivers is an emotional rollercoaster ride. This book has it all angst, second chance love, two public servants trying to make their town safe, ex's from hell, and the most adorable 10 Year old you've ever met. This is the fourth of the Combustible series but it came read as a standalone. After reading it however I will be reading the rest of the series. A series of arson fires bring Melissa and Dave back together. They had a brief romance 11 years ago that went nowhere because at the time it just made no sense with what was going on in there lives. Neither one of them forgot the chemistry they felt. Now she is the local police officer, and he is the fireman investigating the fires.

Dave' s ex-wife is in the last stage of dying from cancer when she just drops off his 10 Year old son without warning. Ashton is an amazing kid and creates the comic relief and heart rending emotional moments in this tense story. The main characters are believable and you will really root for them to make it. The story is set in a small town with all of the kooky secondary characters that that entails. You will like the town and the people who live there. The suspense is well written with enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat not really sure who all the bad guys are. The chemistry between Dave and Melissa is off the charts. I read this in one sitting and just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book you will not be disappointed.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Brandy is a new writer to me. I absolutely fell in love with her writing and her characters. This one is about Dave a hot firefighter/ fire investigator who has alot going on in his life. It starts out with him having an accident at work. The book goes through him dealing with what has happened and his ex wife and her crap. That is one character in this book that I grew very quickly to hate. You have to read to understand why and i guarantee you will hate her too. Now i can say I was sorry to read what happens to her but after all that she does to Dave and his son i understand where Brandy went with this storyline. Dave is dealing with things when an old flame finds her way back into his life. I believe that this happened at just the right time. Most of the book is about them investigating the arson fires and building a strong relationship while dealing with everything that is going on in their lives. This is a very well written book with absolutely amazing character chemistry. There are some points in the book where I had to take a step back and not throw my kindle from wanting to step into the book and slap someone. It does have parts where your emotions will get involved. But in the end this was a gripping book from beginning to end. Very enjoyable with just the right amount of love, sex and suspense. Highly recommend reading this book. After this one I will be reading the rest in this series by Brandy

"Backburn" -"...creating a new fire that burns in the opposite direction to the line of advancing fire" - Dictionary.com

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book. It was extremely well written with an exciting crime mystery in the background of a "backburn" love story. A hot fire of love was started between Metcalf and Marissa to stop the fire of failed relationships and dark depression and overwhelming despair. The dynamic between them was deep loving and silky hot sexually. The story was enhanced with beautiful, loving and hottttt erotic love scenes. Nothing like a little "sexual healing". The supporting characters were well thought out and created a whole believable story by this realistic community. This is my first book from Ms. Rivers and I truly believe she has what it takes to be a great writer! This book is worth every penny in satisfaction. You will not be disappointed.
I was given an ARC and was so thrilled after reading this
book, voluntarily of course, that I bought the finished copy for my kindle library. Hey, that's just me. Every passage in this book is worth it in entertainment value!

I started this book not knowing that it was a series but I didn't really feel like I was missing out on anything. I liked how the story just flew off the pages and I couldn't wait to find out the suspense on who was causing the fires.

Marissa Cortez and Dave Metcalf really have some chemistry. You can feel it from the first meeting in the bar. I hated that it took them eleven years to work everything out. Now only if Marissa can get everything i her life worked out so that she doesn't run from him again.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I will have to go back and read the rest of the books in this series. I have to say I like the characters that I have read about so far.

I liked how the characters put Ashton first and worked out everything else in their lives around him. He has been through a lot in his young life.

I received a free ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing an honest review.

The overall storyline of this book was great and held great promise for me. Dave and Marissa had 1 weekend together many years ago and now are working a fire investigation together. Both have unresolved feelings for the other and the reader gets to see if they can recapture the spark from a decade ago. As they get to know each other again, they must both face things from their pasts in order to move forward. I enjoyed getting to know the main characters as well as the supporting characters in this book and see promise for additional books. The writing itself sometimes distracted from the events in the story for me. Personally for me, there were too many fragmented sentences which could have been interpreted as a statement or a question. Overall, I enjoyed the storyline in this book.

This book was a little hard for me to get into. At about 30% I started to love it and sped right on through to the end. I loved Matcalf and his relationship with his son. They were so sweet together and you could tell they loved each other. I also loved that he knew what he wanted from Marissa and went for it. He told Marissa what he wanted from her since the very beginning and never changed his mind. I love that in books. I also loved Marissa and her relationship with Metcalf and his son. She was amazing and always put Ashton first. She wasn’t sure what she wanted but Metcalf never let her forget how good they were together in years earlier. Once she started to realize she wanted him she went all out. I would highly recommend this to everyone, but if the beginning is hard to get past remember it will get better.

Backburn is the first book I have read of Brandy L. Rivers and I received an ARC for an honest review.

Metcalf is a firefighter who struggles after being injured and witnessing a man kill himself during a call. The only thing that saves him is thinking of his son Ashton.

He has a difficult time after the accident and his not so friendly ex-wife decides to move across the country with her son and new husband.

He revisits a relationship with Marissa, the one who got away as they are working on solving an arson case.

The book moves at a fast pace and has you on the edge of your seat. It has some twists and storylines which you didn’t see coming. For those that love a HEA, you will not be disappointed.
