Mom of two rockin' girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!
I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked. I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance. I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS!
After reading Viktor, I was super excited for this new addition to the series. While I overall liked the book, there were things that bothered me which lowered the total rating.
Note: I would not read this without reading Viktor first. Viktor gives a good base for what is going on, and you may feel a little lost if you don't read that one first. The author did try to make it a standalone, but I feel that reading Viktor is still necessary.
Having said that, because the author tried to make it a standalone, there was too much extra stuff. Like flashblacks (hate them!) and just weird overall jumping into the story in the beginning as well as throughout the whole book. In my opinion, there wasn't enough story about the lead characters together. I felt like half the book was them apart from each other and not building their relationship and connection.
I like that the author took a different route in the story telling that set it apart from Viktor. I don't want the same story twice about two completely different couples. BUT there needed to be more of the H and h to really seal the deal for me.
I will most likely read Lee's book that comes out next. I'm hoping this one was just a fluke because the story line has great premise and promise (haha).
Unlike Viktor's story, Roman's kicks off at a much faster clip. Because he has previously met his mate Cynthia, the story opens with Roman trying to get her to go out on a date with him. She agrees, is kidnapped en route to his place..and the story's momentum just seemed to..stop. The romance was a little spicier than Viktor and Kat's was, but I'm still left with so. many. questions.
Viktor was wordy and sappy, but his story did provide some information on the purpose of the series. Roman's book was fast paced and interesting, but then it petered out.
I'm left with lots of questions about what the King of Blood's ultimate purposes are! Their stories (I assume the other 4 kings will have one seeing as Achilles is book three) tell their previous lives and how they're transformed by Zeus and what finding the keepers of the King's hearts mean. So far, they are currently finding their mates, but for what end goal? Zeus implies the guys are kept alive for three thousand years to not only find their true loves, but to also help save the world. Save the world from what? Is there going to be an epic battle at the end of the series or something? Who are the Kings protecting humanity from?! Inquiring minds want to know please...
Imo, not as good as book 1 but that may be because I’m not a fan of flashbacks in the middle parts of the story. I also wish I knew more about Cyn. Her character wasn’t as fleshed out as Kat’s (from book 1).
Reading the Kings of the Blood box set which includes books one through three is a fascinating and wonderfully thrilling experience. First, this is my first time reading any of the Kings of the Blood books and I was completely fascinated with the world and Julia Mills’ intriguing concept of vampires but not yet really vampires, which I finally decided are immortal warriors with vampire like qualities, anyway the whole working for the gods notion worked really well too and made these delightful characters unique and special. The stories are well written and each character is strong, captivating and well developed which made it easy to connect to them and to become enthralled in the stories. Each story has a wonderfully sweet and entertaining romance, blazing hot passion and sizzling chemistry which includes explicit sexual material. The fast paced plots are full of thrilling action and suspense, including some violent content.
Now for Viktor: Heart of a King; Viktor and his soul mate have some really explosive chemistry and the story is full of suspense which keeps readers enthralled until the very end.
Next we have Roman: Fury of Her King; Roman and his soul mate have a bit more action in their romance because they dance around each other a bit. The fast paced plot includes some thrilling action and suspense when Roman is betrayed which keeps readers on the edge of their seat.
And finally we have Achilles: Soul of Her King; this story mixes things up quite a bit by with rule breaking and secrets with the fast paced plot including thrilling danger and excitement from a very powerful enemy.
I can only wish that these stories were bit longer and the stories a bit more fleshed out but I really enjoyed them and the fascinating world that Julia Mills has created, so I am looking forward to Bain’s book which will hopefully be released soon.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Roman is here! Seems like forever in between books but alas he's here. Of course I loved it. Man, Roman is badass y'all! Wow..thats really hot. Whew. He's got a temper on him but its understandable. He's been chasing his mate for quite some time. She keeps rebuffing him. She doesnt think he's all that serious until he catches her in her office and that scene was yowza! Cynthia has had the hots for Roman since she first laid eyes on him 2 years ago. She's harbored a crush/love for him. She grew up a farm girl and there is noway a Billionaire playboy would want someone like her until he set her straight. However, before their dinner date at his home. Roman is betrayed by someone he trusted and Cyn is taken from him. I love Cynthia and I love the conversations she has with herself. Made me laugh. Cyn is set free which seems too easy. Oh..that harpy has some nasty plans! There is something very wrong with Cyn..she's not well. Roman is at his wits end and is desperate to save her. Can he get it together in time to save her? Read it cause its awesome and cant wait for the next one! Oh...one more thing. I love Kat....I dooo cause you know she snapped Cyn out of her pity party/tantrum and that part was priceless! :)
Purch Amazon Nov. 15, 2016 Roman: Fury of Her King (Kings of the Blood #2) by Julia Mills New Adult Paranormal Romance 2.75 stars rounded up to 3 stars. Better than book #1, but still needs a lot of work. This series has potential, but has not come close to reaching that it. There are a few typo errors. I have made my kindle notes and highlights visible on Goodreads so you can see them. Truly, these errors are minimal and not a problem in reading the story. My main problem is the amount of repetitiveness and extraneous information that not only disrupts the flow of the story, but hinders the reader from relating to the main characters and the delima's they find themselves in. These words needed to be used to create more menace in the scenes where Cynthia finds herself in danger and more action on Roman's part instead of all his ranting and raving. They also needed to be used to make Roman and Cynthia's personalities more intricate. June 2, 2017 – Started Reading June 4, 2017 – Finished Reading

REVIEW
This is the second book in the Kings of Blood series and oh my gosh what a story we get. Roman has known his mate since her birth and as the way of the Kings, he has had to wait for her to come to him. Finally, that has happened but everything that could go wrong does. When those closest to him betray him his mate' life is in the balance. Can Roman save her before it is too late for the both of them?
Well I suggest you grab book one in this series so you get to know the characters involved. And I am sure you will enjoy them just as much as I have. The author gives us a strong story with strong characters with a good back-story.
We get suspense, and a whole lot of hotness. I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Roman! Julia Mills
This is an OK vampire romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me. It is a totally different, and very interesting, take on vampires -- so I have to give Julia Mills big points on creativity.
In this story/series, the "kings of the blood" were created by the Greek god Zeus, and only periodically take enough blood to sustain them -- never killing any of their donors. They are basically immortal soldiers created by Zeus, and their main goal is eradicating evil. Each of the kings has one fated mate, and they know when that person is born, but cannot contact them. They have to wait until their mate finds them on their own. If their mate doesn't find them before they reach 3,000 years old, they will die. I thought this was interesting, but also a bit creepy that Roman knew so much about Cynthia, and could basically watch her whenever he wanted -- seemed kind of stalkerish to me.
There was quite a bit of violence in this story, a bit more than I like. I get that Roman and the other kings were warriors for Zeus, but I would have preferred for the violence to be a little less descriptive. Maybe just tell us they beheaded someone, but don't describe it?
I thought that Cynthia accepted she was Roman's mate a little too easily. After all, the story he told her would have been really unbelievable to anyone. I get that she was made specifically to be his mate, so she was automatically attracted to him -- but she was terrified when she first found out that he drank blood, so much so that she was afraid to even be around him for a while. Then she goes into a coma, and suddenly decides he is safe, and his story makes sense? I just didn't think that was likely.
I liked Roman, and loved that Cynthia was the most important person in his world. It was sweet how he was willing to do anything to protect her.
I will probably read the rest of the series, since I think Julia's take on vampires is so interesting. I doubt that I would read the other books, though, if they weren't available for free with Kindle Unlimited.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Roman/ Romanus is a 3000 yr. old Immortal King. You might could call him a Vampire but that would be a loose play on the word Vampire as he doesn't have any real paranormal powers like Vampires and he only takes blood once a month from a paid blood donor. In his case a crazy one named Valentina who kidnaps his "flylakas ts Kardis mou/Keeper of his Heart. There is nothing romantic sounding in the name of his mate. I found it a bit silly. Anyway Valentina kidnaps Cynthia St. James because she is Romans Mate. She wants Roman to die. He will die if his mate doesn't come to him before his 3000th birthday. So Valentia drugs her and tells her the truth about who and what Roman Marinos really is.
The story was ok. I just wish these Kings had more paranormal skills. They have some strength and they have wealth but that's about it. The Greek Mythical gods they worship who created them is a bit different twist on the story and adds some fantasy. The story moves swiftly there is a bit of suspense and romance. I am very grateful I got it for free. I don't think I would have been a happy camper if I had paid for this story!!
Ever since his second chance at life, Roman has been determined that when he received the one made for him, he would protect her at all costs. Cynthia has always thought meeting the playboy billionaire was a chance encounter. Someone is determined to destroy him. Will Roman be able to get Cynthia's approval before it is to late? Will Cynthia accept the new life laid before her?
I love the Kings of the Blood's protectiveness. I didn't blame Cynthia for her reactions to what she found out, but was happy when she accepted what was said. I loved Roman's protectiveness and definitely think he seemed to be the hothead of the group. Great read!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Roman and Cynthia’s story is a bit different than the first book Viktor in that before theycan even get started, a psychotic member of his staff decides to kidnap Cynthia and let the cat out of the bag about the Kings of the Blood and their history, which puts Cynthia on the defensive and makes it harder for Roman to explain the truth . 4⭐️‘s for the way the author gets Cynthia to listen ( you’ll have to read it to find out , no spoilers here). Can’t wait to read book 3 !!
I enjoyed it. I like the different flavor she adds to the vampires and the twist she creates. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. So far I've really enjoyed them. I would definitely recomend.
Romans book and oh my!! Truly what a great book!!!! The Kings of the Blood is an absolute must read. What they went through and what they continue to go through to meet their mate is mind boggling but loved every minute!
Roman Marinos a thousand years old general belongs with of immortals known as The Kings of Blood. Cynthia St. James is his fated mate, his holder of his heart!
The author missed the mark. There are too many unlikable characters and ridiculous conflicts resulting in a story without a solid foundation to captivate the reader.
This the second book in the Kings of the Blood and it is another solid addition. It again introduces you to amazing thought out characters and the stories unfold with more and more romance, love, strength, suspense, etc...The characters sometimes makes you want to shake them but that is how to know you are really enjoying the characters development and revelations...Definitely looking forward to more in the series
Roman: Fury of Her King by Julia Mills. 5 out of 5 stars! The second book in the Kings of the Blood series is no letdown, it is every bit as interesting as the first. It starts, once again, in ancient Greece as we go over the events that lead up to the conversion of the first of the loyal warriors that Viktor turns immortal with Zeus' consent. Romanus Marinos was a loyal follower of the supreme commander Viktor when he was alive in ancient Greece but since his commanders farcical trial and execution, things have changed in the military in which he serves. Brothers have turned against brothers in the name of self-preservation and the politicians have gotten involved in the name of greed. The men he trained as warriors have turned on him and are ready to stab him in the back at their orders. It comes to a head for him when his bastard half-brother gives the order for his death in the middle of a doomed battle. But all is not lost for the fallen warrior as he lies dying, the image of the man he believed dead appears to him and gives him the choice of becoming immortal and fulfilling his destiny of fighting evil for Zeus. And so begins the real life of Roman Marinos. Almost three thousand years later, Cynthia St James is born. Cyn is the "Keeper of my heart" that Zeus has created for Roman, his mate, the woman who will keep him on an even keel when he fights evil and keep the darkness from invading his mind and body. But not everything is as simple as that, there are others that wish to stop this particular mating. That will go to any length to keep them apart. This is a touching story of a man who has been wronged and still makes the honorable choice even in death. How far brotherly love will go in the heat of battle is the crux of this story and the resulting actions that come from it. Once again, this has just the right amount of action in it to keep it a book that you won't want to put down until you've finished it. I'd recommend it to all to read but, although they are standalone stories, you really need to read them in order to be able to fully appreciate them. Viktor: Heart of Her King Book one Roman: Fury of Her King Book two Achilles: Soul of Her King Book three
This is the second book in the Kings of the Blood series. They are stand-alones. This is Roman’s book.
Romanus the Warrior, better known as Roman Marinos now. He’s a playboy millionaire, and Viktor’s second in command. He’s been the commander for almost 3,000 years now.
We do get the backstory of how Romanus was killed and Roman came to be.
Cynthia St. James is the holder of Roman’s heart. She fights her attraction to him, but she does agree to dinner with him. That ends up with her kidnapped by Valentina.
Valentina was Roman’s feeder basically. She’s nuts. We do get the reason for the kidnapping.
I love how strong Cyn was during the kidnapping. Most would be crying, but not Cyn though. She was making sarcastic remarks to Morticia and Lurch.
Ms Mills brings us the second book in her Kings of the Blood series and while I didn't read book 1 (although will probably go back and read it), she does an excellent job recounting the backstory of who the Kings are and how they were created . I enjoyed this fast-paced, interesting, hot and smexy book featuring Roman, second in charge of the Kings, and Cyn, the human female who has captured his eye...and his heart? Amidst kidnappings and betrayals, will these two be able to figure out their feeling for each other? Is their an HEA in their future? Read for yourself and find out. I received and advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story was excellent. Roman & Cynthia make a very good couple. Roman was made a King of the Blood by Viktor & he's been waiting for a long time to meet his mate. He's also come in contact with his mate earlier than most of the kings; but he still had to wait for her to come to him before he could let her know his secret. On the night that she's supposed to have a dinner date with Roman Cynthia gets kidnapped & poisoned (but you don't learn later of the poisoning) by an ancestor of his spoiled step-brother (& you'll find out later in the book why).
After she escapes her imprisonment & calls her BFF Adele to come & get her she doesn't want anything to do with Roman. While she recuperating from her kidnapping she thinks about all the times she had met him in her past in order to decide if she wants a future with him. But before she can tell him what she decides, she falls ill.
As this is a HEA story you'll just have to read the book to find out what happens next; this story contains a good vs bad plot (which I really love in a book), some hot sex scenes at the end & characters from the 1st book.
I'm really enjoying this series & I will definitely be looking out & reading more books in this series as they come out.
Wonderful book!!! This, in my opinion, was better than the first. Much more detailed and a generous backdrop to how they became the Blood Kings. I loved Roman, from the first book and was eagerly waiting to read his story. Cynthia, his one true keeper of his heart ends up getting kidnapped by a jealous Trefon, a feeder for the King. Pfft. Stupid woman, to betray the King is punishable by death and all their families. I guess Valentina did not get the memo. Lol. Anywho, turns out her and her cousin, Laurent, BKA Morticia and Lurch get their just desserts in the end. MEMO READS: DO NOT MESS WITH THE KINGS-Fýlakas tis Kardiás Mou AKA-Keeper of My Heart or DIE! Cynthia and Roman end up together with the hot exotic, scorching sex that we all love and need. I also fell in love with Adele, so full of wit and funny as hell. I really hope she gets a book. she tots deserves it! LOL .Full of action, romance, killings well deserved, this is a book to read. I love the other Blood Kings too and am all prepped and ready to read Lee's story next. A great read....
Roman Marinos is a Blood King. Not a vampire per say, but an immortal warrior.... He is an arrogant, but, knock-down gorgeous man with a flair of old world about him which I think is awesome considering that his story really began three thousand years ago. ... Cynthia St. James is a snarky, curvy pharmaceutical rep from a small town in the middle of nowhere, and has worked her way up from part-time receptionist to top sales consultation in six years. And she is trying so desperately to resist Mr. Marinos... but little does she know... The draw of a King’s fýlakas tis kardiás mou, or keeper of his heart, pulled him to Cynthia.... with the Fury of Her King.... Roman Marinos is done resisiting her..... Absolutely Thrilling.... The characters are well developed, the story flows beautifully and the attention to detail allows the minds eyes to see clearly exactly what's happening....
I received an advance reader's copy in exchange for an honest review. This book hits the ground running and doesn't let up until the last page. Author Julia Mills leads us deeper into the story of the Kings of the Blood with this installment. We learn more about Roman and discover the keeper of his heart. The adventure that ensued left me breathless and engaged right up to the very end. We also are treated to a glimpse of the next story in this series. Miss Mills always gives us heroes that are admirable and heroines we'd always hoped we'd grow up to be. I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you are a fan of PNR, and if you haven't read the first installment, Viktor, now is the time to start.
2 years ago they met by chance and now she finally gave in and agreed to dinner but she never agreed to being kidnapped by a crazy woman. He was given immortality and now after so many years his mate is with in arms reach but someone has other plans and gets in the way of his happiness. Can he save the woman he loves and destroy the evil behind the threat or will it end both of their lives.
I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. This is book 2 of the Kings of the Blood by the author.
I can't express how much I enjoyed this book! I was intrigued by Julia Mills' twist on what others might consider a "vampire" story.
Roman is NOT a vampire. He is a King of the Blood and there are some definite differences. I also fell in love with Cyn, the keeper of Roman's heart. I loved her attitude and spunk when being kidnapped.
This is certainly a stand-alone book. And absolutely worth the read. I bought Victor a while ago, but have yet to read it. After seeing/meeting Victor & Kat in this book, I will have to find time to read their story asap.
