4,4 This was one of my favorite months, the appearance of Max in Mia's life was a good surprise. It was several moments of excitement that gave me several sighs. This book got more into Mia's family background and it was nice to realize that Max's introduction changed some of the dynamics and enriched the story.

Here I was, thinking I've got it all figured out. I actually thought that by the ending of July. I can tell you, I did not expect this ending. This definitely was a plot twist for me! I really am curious about what will happen during September.
Still immersed in this 12 novella series and I have been enjoying it! This is book #8. I will admit that sometimes I have had to suspend a little belief in reality when it comes to some of the elements. Mia is meeting new characters each month and seems to have immediate life long, soulmate friendships with everyone(Ok I'll believe it for now). Everyone is Rich and powerful. This is the high life...mixed with the low life and for the most part it works because its fun!!
But this was the first month I didn't quite fall for it. A lot happened!!!! The ever present line of people willing to bail her out financially, yet she continues to say no and escort. Long lost Oil family, lots of surprise revelations that were so obvious to the reader yet unbearably slow revealing to the characters. I'm expecting a lot of crazy unreal things to happen coming up to get everyone out of this mess - so I will move on the next one and see how it goes!!
familiar (adj, hence n) familiarity, familiarize, family; paterfamilias. 1. Family comes from L familia. 2. Familia has adj. familiar is of the (all-senses) family. 3. The master of the household is paterfamilias, (lit), father (cf) PATER of the family.
After everything, FAMILY meant so much to Mia. Mia's deadbeat, gambling father is in a coma after a beating dealt him by her loan shark ex, Blaine and her Mother left them long ago. Other than Aunt Millie for whom she works as an escort, her only other blood relative is her little sister, and future scientist Maddy. And . . . of course there's her soul sister Ginelle (Gin). That's all she had on this earth and now her little sister was in love and living with her boyfriend before they'd marry.
Mia's August client was Max Cunningham, a rich texan who has called upon her actress talents to pretend to be his newly discovered sister Mia Saunders. He told her his ". . . father, Jackson, passed recently and left him fifty-one percent of a company and the rest to a sister he’s never met and didn’t even know he had.” He had one year to find his sister or lose much of the company to greedy investors. Our Mia shares the birthdate and it appeared to be from Jackson's scribbled handwriting, the same name. “Mia? You’re Mia, right?” the man said, but the rumble in his voice hit my heart and squeezed. Not with desire but a faint hint of something else. A FAMILIARITY shimmered across my senses, like a long lost dream I’d had, remembering it when I awoke, but unable to place the pieces appropriately."
Turns out Max and Mia have a lot in common, their mother's both leaving their dads when they were young. According to Max, “My mother never married Dad, not for lack of trying. Dad said he asked her many times over the years they were together. Even downright demanded it when they had me; instead, she just up and disappeared. Left a baby book she’d made of me, some pictures of her and Dad together and that’s it. Never to be heard from again. At least that’s what Dad said.” Max tours her around the campus and they talk comfortably, Mia realizing it probably wasn't such a good idea to get wrapped up into thinking he was actually family. She had to remember that this was just a job, an acting job; she wasn't really his sister, no matter how much she'd like to have a brother.
Tucked away now in a bedroom at Max's sprawling Texas ranch, Mia has a recurring dream that haunts her sleep. A man, a little boy, her Mother, her Father and seven words, “It’s for the best. You’re better off.”
There's no Texas 2-steppin' round' this cow paddy! Emotions are running high, the past creeps into the present, and where the heck is Wes when her vision fades and the world goes black?
Audrey Carlan is ratcheting up the tension in this August edition of Calendar Girl. Only four months to go and already the stakes at this table are getting higher. The roulette wheel spins, its numbers and colors blur. Will the house win? Let's hope the odds are forever in her familia's favor.
2.75 stars. The entire time I was reading this I kept thinking that Mia is such a moron. I don't understand how she never pieced together that Max was her brother. She even had a flashback of him when he was younger and said he looks exactly like Maddy. It was utterly frustrating to read. As a reader you want to find out about the plot twist with the protagonist, not before them.
I love it with these books that there is a real storyline. Not all are great but it is nice to see it progressing. I really enjoyed this book as this was not so much focussed on sex but more on friendship family etc. A completely different book than the ones before.
Mia'nın Ağustos yolculuğu sürprizlerle dolu! Maxwell Cunningham çok sevilesi bir adam! Kitabın sonuna doğru işler biraz karışıyor! Başka da yorum yok :)
First off, my thanks to the author for the name drop. That's a first for me and I'm honoured and proud for it. Now, I really can't say it again ("it" being my gushing over Audrey's writing and the series), so this will likely be the shortest review of an AC book from me to date.
But, I will give praise for the twist in the story, for boldly going somewhere I never ever would have expected. As if Mia's life couldn't get more complicated, if her emotions couldn't go through more extremes, Audrey took us there. Her journey's been exciting, passion filled, and one of discovery, but never would I have expected to what degree her life would be flipped on it's ends.
Audrey knows how to give us a cliffhanger - she's done it exceedingly well in her Trilogy series - but this is quite different. Mia's on the outside of the events, things are happening TO her so much as she's been affected by life's circumstances. The synopsis of the September installment left an impression, gave me some anxiety, and I can't wait to see how she's pulls through the extremes of life events and what exactly the other side looks like.
Another 5 star installment in the calendar girl series!!
Well this was a quick and Nice read, we got more of a story and there's going to be a real Mission. *applauding* well I really liked this one, which is refreshing.
I usually detest serial novellas, but Audrey Carlan’s Calendar girl series has kept me engrossed to the point of counting down the days to each new monthly instalment.
And August hasn’t just arrived, it has exploded onto the scene jam-packed with momentous events and turning Mia’s world on its axis as it sends her emotions catapulting into the vast unknown. A storyline filled with mystery and mayhem, August is definitely an extraordinary tale.
As the series has evolved, Ms Carlan has succeeded in adding a whole new dimension to her erotic romance genre, by incorporating a gripping and masterful suspense plot that will have readers screaming at the last page, as another month sits just out of reach.
One of the best stories I have read, irrelevant of its length; now the excruciating wait until September is here and believe me, it can’t come soon enough!!
Really had some issues with this one. The writing over the series has deteriorate. This one is no different and may be the worst yet. There is no surprise to how this installation is going to turn out because it is sooooo predictable. I knew the outcome within the first two pages. Also, there is a line that I find highly offensive in this referring to a person of color who is dressed well. Mia apparently wants to befriend a "sista" simply because she likes her shoes. I have it highlighted and will post later but I'm still kind of pissed by the "sista" being written in to describe this woman. I just don't get it.
**Received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review**
I have to say that Audrey Carlan has done an exception job so far with this Calendar Girl series. Every month it just seems to get better and better and I am loving every single book in this series. the stories of each book are different and they never fail in keeping you entertained and happy. I was particularly very content with August because we learned a lot about Mia and her family. She found out about a family she wasn't aware of and the love she grew to have for Max and his family. He was the most amazing man, who only wanted a large family and when he found out about having a sister he just jumped at the opportunity to find her and have her come and stay with him and his family and show his investors that there is a legitimate sister so the 49% shares of the company would indeed go to his sister.
Even though Mia thought this was all a lie, she felt like it was real and Max was really her brother. Boy didn't she get the shocker of her life when truths and secrets were revealed in the process. But there was one shocking revelation that had me with my mouth literally open when I reached the end of the book. I won't tell you what it was because then I would ruin the story for you and you all need to read it in order to find out the shocker revelation.
I just want to point out that this series has kept me on my toes and each and every installment has been nothing but wonderful, sexy, entertaining and I loved each and every one that I've read.
I've always loved Wes since I read January and I am so happy that they have finally admitted their feelings for each other and have decided to be a "real" couple now. I want to see where this journey will end and how things will evolve for Mia and Wes now that they are a couple.
Mia's continuing journey takes her to the heart of Texas. What an emotional journey this young woman has been on since her Journey began back in January. She has crisscrossed the United States and has been on one emotional journey after another. The forces that bind Mia are unlike any other book that I have read. The ups and downs that she has been through go above leaps and bounds.
Mia is not just an escort but she is the keeper of souls. She brings lives together when they can't see for themselves that the future is right infront of them. Mia's journey however brings a different kind of soul together it brings her and her sisters Maddy's life almost full circle. The end of Mia's journey is not over by far but when looking ahead to the outcome we can see that this young woman not only brings these characters together but us as well.
Audrey Carlan is an amazing, sensual author that not only cares for her characters but for her street team as well. This journey with Mia from the first book to the current has brought out a force within her like no other author possess. I wish I could say that she is amazing, stupendous and all the words in between but she isn't she is so much more than that. Major Kudos
I look forward to reading Mia's next journey in September. So come laugh and be in a bewilderment like no other in this continuing journey. There are many surprises on the horizon for sure
This is straight up the most predictable thing I've ever read. From the very BEGINNING you know damn well how this is going to end. I'm reading other people's reviews and they're talking about the "amazing" plot twist and I'm actually SHOCKED. I mean all the books are somewhat predictable…but THIS was on another level. How on earth did you not see that coming? The author basically TOLD us. I actually can't believe…
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
Also, you know what I hate about this series? MIA. One minute she's this super cool intelligent badass powerful woman and the next she's completely clueless. C L U E L E S S. So clueless to the point of unintentional humour.
Also X2 this author is low key problematic. Seriously. If you look carefully in each book she LOW KEY says some offensive shit but no one notices cause it's always something "small." Like in this one there was a black girl wearing cool shoes and Mia was like I need to get myself a "sista!!!!!" She only wanted a black friend…because of her cool shoes…I'd find the exact quote but I'm not gonna flip through this ugly book again.
The good news is there's no way the other books in this series are as bad as this one.
August (Calendar Girl #8) is the continuation of Mia’s attempt to obtain the money needed to save her father and pay back the loan shark.
This month takes her to Texas where she meets Maxwell Cunningham. Max isn’t just another man to sleep with, but one who is going to change Mia’s whole life...
Let me first say, I love Mia and her journey. She’s evolving wonderfully and July was a very pivotal point in her life. I was not sure that Audrey could make August even better. But alas, she made me cry. Giant crocodile tears. That’s an anomaly for me. I’m not a cryer, but this time, Mia’s journey has taken her to Texas. Texans are wonderful, kind-hearted people who, if you let them in, will love you forever. Max is that guy. We also meet Hank and Aspen (who I dearly love) and Maddy even comes for a visit.
The end of August is GUT WRENCHING and makes me wonder, what is going to happen in September. I’m not sure my heart can handle it. #TrustTheJourney… That is what Mia teaches us. It applies to her life, her story and even to ours. Each and every day! ~ Heather, 5 stars
Holy crap! I love this series, but this book takes the cake. I was blindsided by this one. Mia has strengthened her relationship with Wes, and then her world changes suddenly. He doesn't want her to keep working as an escort, but Mia is very independent and wants to do this herself. She is off to Dallas to play the long lost sister to an oil tycoon, Maxwell Cunningham. She is quickly taken with his family and grateful for her role as anything but a romantic interest. When things go sideways for her, it is going to take everything she has to deal with the fallout. This is at the very top of the best book in this series. I never saw it coming. I love Mia's passion and love for her sister. She really thinks of Maddy before herself. This month's assignment and the news she gets at the end are going to change her whole world. I cannot wait to see what September brings. On the edge of my seat waiting for next month already!
